I just found out about this man. His latest book (I think) is "Natural Health & Weight Loss." I read a summary on Amazon.com and it does look interesting and his pedigree is quite impressive. So, what's the scoop? Is he well-regarded in low carb?
Amazon: Barry Groves, who lives with his wife, Monica, in the Oxfordshire Cotswolds, can rightfully claim to be Britain's leading exponent of the low-carb way of life as he has lived on, researched, lectured and written about it for well over 40 years. He and Monica were overweight from 1957 to 1962, when he discovered the low-carb regime for weight loss. It worked: they haven't been overweight since. This started his questioning of conventional diets.
As a consequence he took up full-time research into the relationship between diet and 'diseases of civilisation' such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer. As a result of his researches, he realised that the perceived wisdoms, both of low-calorie dieting for weight loss and 'healthy eating' for the control of heart disease, were seriously flawed.
Now an award winning international author with a doctorate in nutritional science, Barry has written both popular and more technical books which have been published in countries as far apart as Argentina and Russia, as well as all English-speaking countries. He currently divides his time between researching and writing books, and lecturing to medical professionals and to the food industry about the management and prevention of obesity, diabetes and associated conditions.

I found his book Eat Fat Get Thin to be right on target. He also has a lot of interesting information on his website: http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/

Wow, I find this page to be a fabulous summary!
Carbs, not fats, cause weight gain (http://www.second-opinions.co.uk/carbs-weight-gain.html)
I love those two charts, something that Taubes was far too short on!

Wow, this is a great summary. It really makes sense and helps me see just why I need to stick with low-carb eating even in the absence of "weight loss success," because my blood sugar gets too high and I see with this how I can control it.

Do you think his recent book Natural Health And Weight Loss is best or should I read the Eat Fat Get Thin one?

As well, from Dr. Groves site, this great article from John Yudkin, whose work of course has been referenced everywhere in the LC world.

I am sure that guideline of 20% protein in the diet fits in nicely with some of the numbers, I would think, from "Protein Power". I know it is around what I consume.

I really like and respect Dr Groves and have found his second-opinion website to be invaluable. Such good, concise, well explained information. I reference it quite a bit when having to argue with someone over the benefits of eating lowcarb, or how fat and cholesterol aren't bad for you.

Between 1966 and 1990 more than 50 articles regarding the role of cereal grains as a cause of schizophrenia were published.
I did not know schizophrenia was also a desease of civilization.
A new favorite site along with here and Dr.Edes, thanks!

Do you think his recent book Natural Health And Weight Loss is best or should I read the Eat Fat Get Thin one?I haven't read his new book yet, but am getting it for Xmas. All five reviews on Amazon.com give it 5 stars. All six reviews at Amazon.co.uk gave it 5 stars too. There are links to more information about the book on Barry's website, which I included in my first message.

I have his new book (have not read the old one).
I find the book very informative and inspiring. The theory is similar to "Life without bread".
Not a lot of rules, not focused on superlowcarb or ketosis, but full of solid good lowcarb advice. It also makes a very sound case for eating lowcarb for life. For health and weightloss.
