Is there some one out there who has lost their goal weight :q: I have really had a hard time with the hole sugar substitute thing.. I can't seem to stay away from glutamates or sugar replacements. I need to know how much this is affecting my diet. I have been drinking 12oz or so of diet soda a day and for my reward meal I have balanced my 55 carbs with a balance of protein and low carb foods. How am I doing?

Please let me know your input.

I'm not a CAD'er, but I know that I would be further down the path from sugar addiction if I could once and for all kick sweeteners out of my life.

Have you read CALP? There is a whole section on Options. Two of them are on eliminating MSG and artificial sweeteners .

Hey, Brenda

I have not reached my goal weight; but, I am successfully into my 6th week of consistent weight loss. :D

You have yourself listed as doing CAD? Have you read that book? Have you looked at CALP? It is more recent and has more information; such as the MSG and artificial sweetener options that Karen mentioned.

If I remember correctly (and I may be wrong, you need to look at the CALP book); if you really have the desire or need for a diet soda; you should restrict that to your RW meal. I don't care for diet sodas, so I don't remember those details as well. But, during the day, they are not suggested.

I have another question: where did your balancing your RW with 55 carbs come from? I don't recall in any of the Heller's books where they say you should count carbs at your RW? Yes, you balance, but it's all done by eye.

Hi!

I'm a new CAD-er but in regards to the whole diet cola issue, the book says you can have it with your complementary meals as long as it has less than 4 gms of carbs...I made sure to check that as I LOVE Diet coke, but can't seem to find nutritional info about it, so right now I'm vowing to give it up when the case I have is gone (so I'm enjoying the quality time that my diet coke and I have left together  )

While we're on the topic of diet coke, and drinks in general, I know that there are drinks I'm allowed to have with complementary meals(the book says coffee, tea and diet soda's) what about between meals? I'm constantly thirsty and although I've been drinking 64 oz of water/day, sometimes I want something else...does anyone know if I'm allowed?!?

You might be able to find the nutrition information you need on diet coke at their website - here's the link:
http://www2.coca-cola.com/ourcompany/ingredients.html

(I was looking for some info on diet sodas and found the site - it's got some interesting info as well).

Good luck - I've yet to be able to give up my diet soda -seems to be about all I live on!! Oh I know, shame on me!! :(

I love diet soda and have maybe two or three a day at anytime. I don't think it has affected me and in the last two months I've gone from over 30% body fat to 18% (200lbs to 173lbs)and want to gain about 12 more lbs of LBM.

Diet soda may effect others but I think I'm ok with it, I also drink 1/2 to 1 gallon of water a day.

I use to love Diet SunDrop(a southern soda)and Diet Coke, but since starting Atkins I've been drinking Diet Rite. It has no caffeine, carbs or sodium and it is sweetened with Splenda, which Dr Atkins recommends since it doesn't affect insulin levels the way aspartame does in most people.

It tastes a little different than Diet Coke, but it's still good and I drink one a day as my "fix". lol

I was a terrible Diet-Coke-Aholic. I quit drinking it almost a year ago. For me it is better to have none than to try to stick to only one or two a day. Maybe I am like a drug addict........and my drug was soda.

Can you completely give up soda for a while and see how you feel after being off of it? Give yourself something to compare to?

Last time I tasted my husbands soda I thought it was nasty. Funny how our tastes change!
