I know it isn't recommended to have fast food, but I was wondering if anyone does have fast food while doing Atkins and what were their most common choices and recommendations when having to do so? And what the estimated carb counts are if you know?

Today for lunch my work went to a take out mexican food restaurant for lunch. I had no idea what to get so I ordered a carna asada burrito and took it back to the office. I scraped the fillings into a bowl and threw away the tortilla. Do you think this was a safe choice?

i hate to say it, but i have done the exact thing before... sometimes you just dont have 'something' on you when you need it... i think everything inside was completely legal tho... Beef, Onions, Tomatos, Cilantro, Guacamole... and it was Yummy! :yum: i think your safe ;)

I've done fast food before -- hamburgers or grilled chix sandwiches (just throw away the bun & don't use ketchup), McDonalds has some awesome salads, just don't use their dressings or ask for ranch, which is lower carb than some of the sweet ones. Someone told me Wendy's will even package your sandwiches without the bun. Not sure what all these carb counts are, but for a McDonald's hamburger without the bun, it's 4g. Hope that helps

You probably ordered one of the safest options there.

I like chicken faijita innards! With TONS of sour cream and guacamole.

My girlfriend goes to Carls Junior ( I think), and orders a double double protein style. It's basically a double bacon cheeseburger wrapped in lettuce with no special sauce. I had one once, and it wasn't all that bad. Quite filling, too.

Both McDonalds and Wendy's will sell you burgers or the grilled chicken with out bread if you ask. McDonalds will also sell you the steak and onions with out the bagel in the AM boy is it good-sells for 1 or 2 dollars. Be very careful if you order Ice Tea at McDonalds cause they now sell sweet tea which has I kid you not 4 # of sugar per 5 gallons of tea-I call it instant death or syrup.

I can eat at subway but sometimes they don't want to keep the bread or the tortilla. I find that I can eat at most if not all of the rest. that I want to go to-Dennys has a great steak, grilled shrimp and mixed vegie dinner that is to die for and under $10.00. Hope this helps-Hardees will probably hold the bread too if you ask-don't know about Sonic cause ours isn't open yet!

Okay...eating out is my specialty! lol I love to eat out! But am still learning new things!! I had fajita's tonight!!! Loved it!

Mexican: I usually get the fajita's and just eat the meat and green peppers with a bit of the sour cream and guacamole...Or the mexican steak.

Chinese: I usually look for seafood or chicken dishes with something like broccoli or green peppers...I ask for it to be made without corn starch or anything sweet. (sometimes they will, sometimes they won't)...Egg flower/drop soup or any vegie brothy soup...

American: Steak, hamburger steak, burger (throw away bun/no catsup), omelet, chef's salad, some brothy soups, pork chops, grilled fish, grilled chicken

Carls Jr. is my fave Low carb restaurant (also known as hardee's I think): Low carb chicken club, Low carb burger (they let you pick whatever meat and toppings you want on it and can switch out stuff easily)

Pizza: I go for 1 slice pizza (toppings only) and maybe hot wings dipped in blue cheese?? At pizza hut, thats what I go for, salad, hot wings, and if still wanting pizza I will just take a few toppings off!

Greek: Greek salad is what I usually aim for or something with lamb meat....maybe a gyro (minus the bread) eat the gyro meat, sauce, etc??

Italian: soup? not sure but maybe some moussaka?? something like a vegie saute or shrimp scampi sort of meal??

basically I try to aim for meat with a bit of vegie....No sauces if possible! Sometimes It can be difficult but it can be done!!
I eat out alot and seem to be doing good on it! hehe

I eat fast food from time to time. I am also Celiac so I check with the company's website (if they have one) to make sure thier offerings are gluten free. This helps to avoid things with hidden wheat which adds hidden carbs we don't want or need.

to answer your question regarding fast food while L.C'ing, I like jack in the box. I order the ultimate breakfast sandwich, minus the bread and bacon. I add a sausage . I ask for it in a container and it is not messy to eat. With the egg, slice of cheese, slice of ham(not honey), and sausage I have estimated my carb intake at 3-4 carbs. I also order their grilled chicken salad and use my own dressing that does not contain sugar. I only order this twice a week and mainly eat green vegetables and baked or broiled chicken.

I am diabetic so when I eat out (which is not often, I just like the food I cook at home better) I make the waiters crazy b/c I grill them on what is in a certain dish. It seems that there is a gravy or a sauce or a glaze on everything, and that you have to really be stringent in asking if the beef is 100% pure. I ordered a grilled chicken salad yesterday at Arby's and they gave me light ranch without asking. It had 4 grams of sugar and 11carbs!! I guess they just assumed that since I ordered a salad, I would want the "better for you" dressing. I gave it back and asked for the "real" ranch.

KFC has a BLT chicken salad that is REALLY good, with nothing but lettuce, tomato, bacon, and grilled chicken breast... no breading in sight. i love that thing. arby's chicken club salad is also really good, you just have to make sure you ask for the grilled chicken, NOT the crispy.

I'm in love with Carl's Jr. California Burger!! That thing is HUGE and juicy and delicious! They get a honking burger patty and put cheese, red onion slices, and tomato on it and then wrap it in very crisp, fresh lettuce leaves. It has a paper wrap so if you're desperate enough, you can even eat in the car w/out TOO much mess.

Man, now I'm hungry!

I take a couple Revolution Rolls with me and I can have burgers anywhere.
I just switch the bun.

The grilled chicken caesar salad at McD's is the lowest carb count with the dressing coming in at around 6 carbs or any fast food hamburger without the bun. When DH and I go to Mexican restaurant, I always order fajitas and just eat the meat, onions and peppers with the sour cream and guacamole. The chicken nuggets at Chick-Fil-A are low carb. There are really are many options available if you ask questions and do your research.

Macdonalds chicken mcnuggets (terrible), but I was desperate.

6 pcs = 15-16 g carbs.

Carl's Jr/Hardees is my absolute favorite, and I've yet been to one that didn't know what I mean when I ask for low carb style, or "lettuce wrap". Because they don't use shredded lettuce, you really do get your burger wrapped in lettuce; lots of places use shredded, which makes eating it without a fork challenging.

Boston Market, if you're lucky enough to be around one, is excellent -- just skip the cornbread, and choose vegetables for your side items.

What a good idea to switch rev rolls for the buns!
