This may have been discussed here already, but you gotta RUN out to your nearest Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwhices location and try the "Gargantuan Unwhich" - oh my god, it is so yummy, and a low-carber's dream!

Tom,

How well does it hold up? Does it fall apart easily?

There's a JJ's near me and I'm now I'm curious to try it!

Thanks,
Sherry

It holds up great - they put a secondary wrapper as a sort of handle that you can unwrap and keep the thing intact - but I have had good luck unwrapping the entire thing and devouring it nicely and neatly!

Oh, it is SO GOOD Sherry - I am so glad this chain in now making a bigger presence.....!!!

Man those look good. :yum:

Why don't they ever have stuff like this up in Canada??!!

I could replicate those but I would also add a red cabbage leaf to wrap it in
because they hold up better then lettuce and the red and green combination would look nice.

I never thought of using cabbage - what a fantastic idea!

In any event, don't skimp on the meat. Jimmy John's just packs these with delicious deli meats and cheese!!

2:00 in the morning, and now I want one!!!

Well this is a wonderful thing. I just went to their website and it turns out there are two in my area - one of which is very close to my house. This will also be perfect for my DH (as he can't have bread because of Celiac). Thanks for the tip!! This may just be dinner tomorrow night!

I never skimp on the meat when I make anything.
it is my favourite food. :yum:

A few days ago,I read somewhere (cannot remember where now) that using cabbage as a substitute for the bread is better because the leaves hold up better then lettuce does. I have not tried it yet (I will be soon) but it sounded like a good idea.

I about had a heart attack over the nutritional info though. 9g net carbs isn't to bad. 769 calories and 3254.66 mg sodium made my eyes bulge a touch. Then again with a wrap that big I could make at least two meals out of it, if not more.

I get it without the tomato, so minus a bit of the carbs.

But it is all good carbs anyway. The dressing is vinegar and oil.

I just had the Vito Unwich.

It was really good - but a whole bunch of lettuce!! Shredded lettuce inside, big ole' leaves outside

I would definitely get this again!

I love the unwhich!! My friend used to make fun of me for eating it, but now she is LC and does the same.

At home, I make my own unwhich backwards, I use the meat as the wrap instead of the lettuce, it holds together better. I hope that doesn't sound gross.

I usually do something close...but I use cheese as the "bread" because it seems to hold up longer than my thinly sliced turkey/chicken! :yum:

I had one of these this weekend......it was fair...definately not worth the $6.00+ I paid for it though....

So..........I went out and bought a head of lettuce and I always have sliced turkey, roast beef, and cheese around and I'm going to make my own !

I'm bumping this up because learning about these "unwiches" has really saved me a few times. They are truly low carb, they're tasty, and the chain is willing to make every single item on the menu in a very low carb way. Wow.

Thanks again to the OP -- I never would have known about this otherwise.

I usually send out for one at work...they are great. It really saves me when I didn't have time to pack my own lunch or dinner, depending on which shift I am working. My favorite is the blt. They deliver right to my job and it helps keep me on plan even when I dont have extra time.

That's what I've started doing. They use about 3 of the big outer leaves of iceberg lettuce. I generally don't like iceberg, but for reasons I don't understand, this seems to work better than leaf lettuce.

It makes quite a mess. You want to eat these at home alone. Don't try to carry one to work.

I agree, I've tried with leaf lettuce before also and it doesn't work as well as iceburg. I love lettuce wraps and it can be messy :) I try to make sure everything is very dry before I put it together. I usually use mayonnaise with just a dot of mustard mmmmmmmmmm yummy. :)
They're also very good with ground beef cooked with either mexican or oriental seasonings. (With the Mexican, I usually just pour it over the lettuce - a taco salad without the shells or chips. :)
