I really should know better, I know, I know, but I trusted Netrition. They sent me a coupon. So I immediately went to the site and loaded up on low carb products, which I think is generally a bad idea.

I browsed only in the low carb food section and bought two varieties of corn tortilla chips from R. W. Garcia that Netrition is selling as low carb.

Well, they're delicious. And guess why? Because they're high carb tortilla chips. The ingredients and nutritional profile are just the same as any corn-based tortilla chips. In fact, the flaxseed variety is higher in carbs than ordinary cheap grocery store tortilla chips.

Just a reminder to always check -- even if you're shopping in a place that sells nothing but "low carb".

I use netrition a lot, but I always check the neutrional content of food before I buy, also, did you check the fiber and subtract it? Flax is all fiber so I subtract those carbs. http://www.netrition.com/garcias_tortilla_chips_page.html at 21 carbs -4 fiber a serving they are 17 carbs, too much for me, but always check.

Hmmmm. I'm wondering which ones you purchased.

Mine are the "Flax of Life" spicy soy and flaxseed. And yes, they do contain corn.

13g carb
4g fiber
6g protein

I bought the blue corn and flaxseed and the veggie varieties. At 17 gms. ECC they're higher in carbs (even net carbs) than ordinary tortilla chips.

How do the soy ones taste?

OH--therein lies the problem. Rule of thumb--you have got to read EVERY label.

I usually hate soy in any way, shape, or form. These are surprisingly good. But remember. They do contain corn and corn products so they are not induction friendly and shouldn't be introduced until you get to the grain rung. In small quantities--I usually measure out 2 oz and sometimes use them when I want "real" nachos.
