hello -

I'm trying to figure out if my cheese and cream addiction is finally making me gain weight (no I'm not trying to gain weight - losing a little would be good). Anyone had a very positive weight-wise experience with cutting out dairy (like doing general low-carb before and paleo now)?

I have been on very low carbs and seem to be gaining weight despite this.

My problem with cutting it out is that without dairy I find it very hard to get my fat percentage up. I don't like the taste of tallow - lard is great if I make it myself but the butcher never has any fat to render and they chuck it out and never save it for me!

Is it worth it? Ditching the dairy?? I don't have any allergies from it or stomach pains or anything - I just seem to be gaining weight (and I'm not doing weightlifting or anything).

It hasn't helped me lose weight but it did cure a lot of nasty symptoms I was having like stuffy nose, mucous-y bowels, acne, constipation and muscle spasms.

Ditching dairy:
It helped me a lot with weight loss, binging mood and bloating.
I used to have minimum amounts (up to 3 oz), not daily and no allergy!

thanks -

I think I will make some Ghee and see if that will satisfy my appetite along with meat instead of dairy. I remember quite liking it and presumably it shouldn't affect me the way other dairy MIGHT be.

Ghee + steak = yum. (apologies to Hybrid)

I wonder...do you have access to goat or sheep dairy? Might be worth a shot, if you do.

And I didn't notice a difference weight-wise when I stopped dairy, nor when I started again! (I use some goat/sheep cheese, and just found goat butter...though it does slow down the works a bit, the cheese.)

ah - I have no fear of slowing down the works - not with my trusty bottle of magnesium anyway.

In fact I wonder if some of the problems people have with dairy is getting out of balance between Ca and Mg rather than anything else - especially if there is no allergy present. So if I wasn't taking Mg supplements I might well bump up eating spinach if I still wanted my cheese (in fact I probably would dump cheese if I couldn't supplement -I feel that strongly about the whole thing).

YES I eat local goat cheese available here in Chile and it is very good, but alas, it is also very expensive unless you drive out to the valley and buy it off of the side of the road.

However, maybe the price will be worth it.
