HI FOLKS,
I WAS JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE OUT THERE HAD COMBINED THE ATKINS AND THE CALP. I'M THINKING OF DOING ATKINS A FEW DAYS A WEEK AND CALP THE OTHER DAYS. DO YOU THINK I WILL SCREW MYSELF ALL UP OR WHAT? I WAS THINKING THAT MAYBE I WILL LOSE A LITTLE FASTER LIKE THIS?
ANY IDEAS?

I would not recommend it!

Yesterday, I thought I'd try a day of two of Atkin's; just to see. But, when it came time for dinner, I really wanted the BBQ sauce on my chicken; and I really wanted a serving of the mac and cheese. So, I had them, and I enjoyed them, and I did my exercise; and I didn't feel deprived, and I didn't feel like I was breaking my eating plan; AND, I lost weight yesterday!

But, to be more serious; I don't think it's good to change plans back and forth so quickly. The philosophy is a bit different on the 2 plans, even though they have many similarities. On CALP, you keep your lc meals to 5 carbs or less to decrease the chance of insulin release. On Atkin's, you don't have that limitation. So, you could eat 10 carbs at 2 of your meals. That works on a consistent basis on Atkin's, but not CALP. Also, when you do Atkin's, do you go straight into induction?

YMMV, but, since you asked the question, I would vote "no".

SCOTTY, I DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT I DIDN'T KNOW THAT THE CARBS HAD TO BE 5 OR LESS AT THE LC MEALS. I WAS HAVING TOO MANY VEGGIES I THINK. I'LL HAVE TO CHANGE THIS. MAYBE THIS IS MY PROBLEM. THANKS SO MUCH. MAYBE I'LL SEE A LOSS THIS WEEK. I WAS HAVING PROTEIN AND VEGGIES TOO. I'M SURE TOO MANY.

THANKS!

WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE BREAKFAST? THE IS 10 CARBS OK FOR LUNCH? OR STILL KEEP IT TO 5? I THINK 10 WOULD BE OK IF I HAVEN'T HAD ANY FOR BREAKFAST, BUT I DO HAVE THE CREAM IN THE COFFEE AND THE SWEETNER. SO THAT'S ABOUT 2 OR 3 RIGHT THERE ANYWAY.
WELL YOU LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERYDAY! :yay:

Cris, YMMV on the number of carbs you can tolerate at your LC meals (I may have mispoken when I said you "have" to keep it at 5 or below. I do know that is what "I" have to do). I don't think that is in the book. I know I've seen it "somewhere" on the net recently(more than once).

So, yes, you might want to give it a try. I found for myself that if I had a salad and green beans for lunch with my protein, that it was too many carbs and I gained weight that day. (That's the great thing about fitday.com. It helps you to keep track of everything, and you can pinpoint problems. This was a very subtle problem for me. If I had not been keeping track closely day-to-day....and knew that that (the combo of salad and beans) at lunch that day was the "only" difference, I would not have found that out. So, now that I've tried the "Mock Danish" and find it completely delish :D ; because it has 4-5 carbs in it (depending on which flavors you add) I'll only be having it with my RW until I get into maintenence.

And, as far as combining carbs from 2 LC meals into one; I wouldn't do that either. Again, the idea is to keep "your" body from releasing insuling during that LC meal.

Good luck and keep trying to see what works best for your body!

CALP does take a lot of fine-tuning. But, it is such a wonderful way to eat. It is more than worth it if you can find that happy medium.

And, one more hint about the cream in the coffee. On the MyCAFriends site, one of their recommendations is: You are allowed one cup of coffee with max. 2 ozs. cream (half
and half or milk) outside your RM once a day. Make sure to finish it
within 15 minutes. There are no time limits for black coffee.
Again, you are trying to stop insulin release; it's possible the cream may be effecting you.

Take care,

SCOTTY,
WHAT'S THE MOCK DANISH? SOUNDS INTERESTING. GOT A RECIPE?
I DON'T THINK I'VE EVER REALLY SAW HOW LONG IT TAKES ME TO DRINK THE COFFEE. COULD BE OVER 15MIN. I'LL HAVE TO WATCH THAT NOW TOO. WHAT'S THE MYCA FRIENDS SITE?
THANKS!

I found info about the Mock Danish over in Stormy's Journal. To find the best info on it; do a search on this site under "mock danish". You will get about 9 pages of posts to look thru.

If I remember right; it will be on page 3. I do know for sure the name of the thread is "Mock Danish" and is was started by "Natruska". The thread itself is now 9 pages long....and WELL worth reading. There are many variations you can do with this recipe - different flavors (maple, lemon, cinammon, cocoa). Plus, it's quick and easy! But, for me; as I said....it has 4-5 carbs in the recipe....so I won't normally be having it for a lc meal (I guess I could make it and only have 1/2 the recipe and save the rest for later....but...it's soo good...I'd have a hard time stopping. LOL)

As far as the other website. I actually heard about it here, first. Go to yahoo.com. They have a section for "groups". You have to "join", and create a profile in order to get in. Then, one of the groups is call MyCAFriends. It is run by a close friend of the Heller's. Again, you have to "apply" to join this particular group. They have info posted, and a message board. Truthfully, I don't find much info on the message board (hard to read; looks like a few close neat people posting most of the time, not always CALP related). But, the FAQ's area has been helpful.
