Anyone try a colon cleanse while Low Carbing?

I think some type of cleanse is important during or after induction due to the constipation from a sudden change in diet, and the possibly harmful wastes that build up from all the body fat burning. I took plenty of Milk of Magnesia and fiber during that period and I remember really nasty stuff came out :o

I'm currently on the "summer diet" version of NeanderThin, which is probably "semi-low carb" at a maximum impact of 86.89 net carbs per day (which is 15% of my total calories coming from carbohydrates). My total carbs are below this at 83.49, and my actual net is 58.41.
I do two tablespoons of Sludge Powder per day, for a total of 8 grams of net carbohydrate. Actually I have no clue how the math works for this, so I had to add 8 grams of alcohol just to make the figures work.
I also do laxative tea at night with a whole tablespoon of honey. Like I said, semi-low carb.
Not sure what advice to give you on a very-low-carb diet, and I see from your plan you're low calorie, which I suppose would be very-low-carb simply by default, to avoid having too high of a percentage from carbohydrates.
Dr. Natura's product, which is what I use, only requires one tablespoon of sludge, which would be 4 net grams of carbohydrates.
I'm mainly doing this as a preventative for hemorrhoids. I'm not sure if it actually works or not. For actual prevention of cancer, you're better off with calcium supplementation. That, unlike fiber, has been proven by scientists... whereas the rest of my advice is nothing more than my own meandering opinion.

There are so many advertisements for colon cleaning products I don't have a clue which would be the best. If anyone has advice I'd love to hear it.

If you can get your doctor to authorize a flexible tube colonoscopy, you can get cleaned out in one day with some prescription-strength colon-blow stuff. Tastes like cherry flavored lighter fluid, according to one report.
Personally, I do Doctor Natura.

You can approximate it at home by drinking a whole bottle of magnesium citrate-- I prefer the cherry flavored chilled. It still tastes like liquid hospital.

One thing about the family history is that there's an actual gene (well, a few genes) that one can be tested for. E.g., my grandfather had the HMS6 mutation, my mom has it, and I have it. If my mother didn't have it, I wouldn't need to be tested, and if I would have tested negative, I could wait until I was 50. It's called Lynch Syndrome, and it's worth testing for if you do have a family history. That way, you can tell who needs annual colonoscopies and who doesn't.
With my mutation, there's a 70% chance of developing colon cancer before my 100th birthday, so I'm going to start testing every year.

Am I the only one who actually likes the colonscopy procedure?
The preparation part (drinking the laxative liquid and in previous years, also having to give myself several enemas - ugh, not a pretty picture!) is not fun but you get a good sense of what it feels like to be completely 'cleaned out' when you are done.
Then the actual colonoscopy is my opportunity to have legal drugs! One year, my blood pressure dipped very low and so they put something in the IV that took me from very very sober to very very high on champagne in 4 seconds flat. Wheee! And then back down again.
This year, I simply had the best sleep ever, waking up to a warmed blueberry muffin which I decided to enjoy, carbs be damned!
Actually, the best part is just getting the clean bill of health. I'm not due for another ten years now.
Colonoscopy = not as bad as childbirth. So I can handle that. (or kidney stones, for the guys to compare it...)

Well, I think I would sooner give birth!! much easier, quicker and less mess!!!! In fact its the "clean out" the day before that fills me with absolute dread and the pain the day after!

Ah, there's the difference: I never have any pain the day after! Thinking that I feel pretty good after a colonoscopy, I asked the doctor what he thought of 'high colonics'. I have never gone but I do have a friend who goes to a nearby town for a high colonic (which I guess is just an enema that goes pretty high up in your colon). It's not a medical procedure - people just go because they think it 'detoxifies' their bodies. Some people think it keeps the complexion clear, too!
The doc said, 'No, no, no, that's not medically supervised, how do you know they know what they are doing, etc.? Just drink juices all weekend and you will accomplish the same thing!'
Still, a high colonic is quicker.
If you aren't familiar with high colonics: I always associate them with the West Coast. In the movie 'L.A. Story', Sarah Jessica Parker is a young whom Steve Martin has picked up in a men's clothing store and one theme of the movie is what it's like for a guy in his 40s to date a girl in her 20s. As part of one of their dates, which probably involves rollerblading or some youthful physical activity, she take him to a place where they both undergo high colonics. He isn't that clear on the concept, I guess, and after their colonics, they are leaving the place and she says, 'Whewww, that really clears out your mind!' and he make a hilarious remark that you can imagine about someone having their directions wrong...

Yeesh. When I was having particular problems a coupla years ago (eating low fat, go figure) I decided on a high colonic...painful as all hell, and it didnt work. REALLY dissapointing.

I question the need for cleaning our colons - seems pointless. If god had intended us to clean them he'd have arranged colons to sit on the outside for easy access!!!!!!

Colonoscopy went fine, I had to wait three hours longer than expected and I fast almost 48hrs. I couldn't have the honey, hard candy, popsicles and juice recommended by the clinic so I had coconut oil if I felt very hungry. The magnesium citrate & 4 liters of GoQuickly aren't as bad if consumed along with a hot drink like lemon tea :yum:
I lost 6lb the nurse said the average is 8 for most people. I took a bag lunch, but wasn't hungry at all the 2nd day, probably since I do IF anyway.

Damn 8lbs??? WOW, I only lost 2 and I didnt eat for 3 days prior to the fasting for it. I was so sure I'd loose a crap load (no pun intended) of weight, but I was much disappointed that I didnt.
The bad part to the cleansing before the proceedure is I havent been able to "go" since. I went EIGHT days!! My back started to hurt and I had alot of pressure so I took a mild lax and that was a week ago and now I havent gone since!!! uhhhggggg!!!!
Although I must say I felt really good the first week after and much to the "myth" my skin looks GREAT!!!! The prep was not so bad, I say that now that its over but each year when I have to continue I will be saying otherwise.

The bad part to the cleansing before the proceedure is I havent been able to "go" since.Well most people eat lots of carbs, so they will lose more in bulk and stored glycogen. I was on IF and I use Fiber Sure daily so I didn't have that much to lose. I have since gained some of it back.
The procedure did cause me some gas and constipation for a couple of days, its been hard to get back to normal. I am trying more water and magnesium, less real coffee, yogurt, kraut and some grapefruit. I just read a study the appendix helps restore gut bacteria after a bad bout of diarrhea, but I had mine removed.
