I may introduce hot dogs occasionally, due to convenience. I checked labels the last time I was at the store and the best one I found was Oscar Meijer Weiner's. It said under 1 carb for 130 calories each, which I understand you count as 1 carb each.

I was surprised some were 3-5 carbs each, and of course higher calories.

What hot dogs do you prefer? I imagine some people will mention obscure hard-to-find brands, but hopefully there are some healthier brands in a regular grocery store.

Thanks.

I used to love Best Kosher. A couple of years later they had HFCS in them.

Hebrew National

I hate all beef franks. They taste like blood to me. I never eat hot dogs anymore, but I LOVE them. As long as they aren't all beef, I could eat tons of them.

I agree with the Hebrew National. No HFCS, but they do contain soy protein and nitrites (haven't found a hot dog yet that doesn't contain nitrites, though).

I can get them at Costco, too.

Another vote for Hebrew National. I believe Sam's Club sales them too, but I could be mistaken.

Nathan's rules. Also Fearless Franks are good, and you can get them without nitrates. I get them at Trader Joe's.

Hebrew Nationals taste good but make me sick because of the soy. I usually stick with Oscar Meyers-only kind that doesn't make me sick.

My favorite is Ballpark Beef Franks. However, those tend to be carbier than some others. I know Hebrew National is very good too, and much less carbs.

I buy a couple of kinds of Hoffman hot dogs (they may just be a local thing) Their german hot dogs have 1g carbs, and they're huge.

Applegate Farms makes a GREAT beef hot dog with no nitrates, sugars or carbs. You can find them at natural food stores although I've also seen them at Trader Joe's. Pricey, but worth it.

I hate hotdogs, I remember my sister choking on one when she was little, maybe that's the reason I don't eat them. They are like little baloneys and I hate baloney.

Nathens are by far the best tasting to me and I don't remember anything bad in them.

Okay, I have to ask ... what are spider dogs?

Spider dogs are what we used to make when we only had hotdogs... and hamburger rolls.

You take the hotdog and split the end into two halves, then cut it again to make them quarters. Do the same on the other side. The pieces are still attached (four "legs" on each side), leaving about an inch or so in the middle to be the "body".

When you cook them in a pan, the "legs" curl, and it fits nicely in a hamburger bun. It's also fun just to watch. We used to cook them over the fire at camp.

The only time I get hotdogs is when Im at costco and Im starving...I figure the occasional "all beef" with questionable additives wont kill me. Ive gotten good at eating around the bun. Basically, its a vehicle for the sauerkraut, onions relish and brown mustard, but it hits the spot in a pinch.

Sabrett's beef hot dogs are great at 1 carb, and no sugar in them, they use a small amount of sorbitol.

I think I saw those at our regular supermarket.

I looked it up online. 150 calories / 1 carb compared to 130 for Oscar M. Weiners. Sounds like many prefer the H Natl.
