Okay - sorta in addition to that 'how often do you weigh yourself' thread...

So I seem to step on the scale on say, tuesday, and register a low weight. Then spend the rest of the week trying to chase that weight again! Is that bizarre? Of course, once I see that low number, it goes on my stats. But why is this? Anyone else the same?

Meaning: I weighed 97.5 on tuesday morning. WooHOO. Then the following day I'm back at 98.7...! And this morning, finally back to 98.0... (This is kilos by the way... least you think I'm some twig or something...!)

How do you guys lose weight..? Is there a weird pattern to it.. WHy!?

It's like the number is there to encourage me and say 'You can get HERE this week.' And then it goes away but keeps me motived..!

Thats sort of the weight my weight loss goes. I reach a new low, it goes up, I spend the week trying to get there, a few days later I do, I reach a new low and then I am back up a couple of pounds (a kilo) and work my way down again. The general trend seems to be going downwards though so as long as that continues I am happy. Some people are nuts! If they see the scale go up half a pound they dive into a bag of cookies or something and think their life is over. I think people just need to allow themselves around 5 pounds or so (sometimes a little more) of regular fluctuation water weight.

It's so so the same for me..I thought I was on my own. I own a pair of electronic scales with its own mind and desires. Last weekend after weighing 196lbs for days and days and days, I weighed myself and was shocked to see 189lbs staring back at me. I was so chuffed, specially as I didn't feel as if Id lost all that weight. I moved the scales to another part of the bedroom and weighed right back at 196 :q: I told my scales off like the naughty child it was behaving like :p

Anyway, now I have the scales in the same spot. I weigh myself first thing in the morning after the loo and before drinking or eating anything and leave that as my weight. If I weigh more the next morning I ignore it and if I weigh less the morning after I record it.

yes, it is annoying. i have always had a 4 pound RANGE. Luckily since i started lo carbing, my RANGE is a little lower. i still go up and down.

I always have a jump in weight after a loss. I have heard others say that the fat cells, after letting go of some fat, obtain water to fill their space. After a couple of days they let go of the water, hence back to your lowest or another loss.
Anyway, something like that.

Every time my weight is gonna drop the next day I know the night before because I pee like 5 times an hour!

t0rie27, weight loss is never in a straight downward line. Here's a link (http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62526) to a thread where one of our members posted a chart that demonstrates what you are going through quite well.
Relax...those 'ups and downs' are really quite normal and a good reason to not obsess over daily scale weights. :)

Well, I've restarted so many times I've lost count. BUT, I've stayed on track for the last ten days, and have lost ten pounds. So for now, it's basically a pound per day, and that was even with TOM hanging out last week!

It's nice to have some reassurance. Am totally pleased and not at all discouraged by my zigging and zagging!

I find it all pretty fascinating, to be honest. It's like reading everyone's experiences and then going..wow - YES! (If that makes any sense!)

Yesterday I tried on a couple of cute belts I bought last month. They didn't fit when I bought them, but I liked them.. (Typically shopping for me...!) Well, my weight has only gone down about 1 or 2 kilos since buying them, but they fit now... so as I've read on the forums, sometimes you lose inches, and sometimes it's weight.. and it all balances out in the end!

(I still like standing on the scale everyday.. although I don't let it bug me 'cause I know I'm not cheating, I know I'm exercising and I know this whole WOL is working!

I only weigh myself once a week, maybe twice. I recognize that it might be a "false weight" and it might be higher again later in the week, but I try not to stress about it.

Life's too short to spend too much energy worrying about the numbers on the scale. I focus on eating healthy foods, and I only think about the numbers when it's weigh-in-day.

I'm the up and down person too. I lose, lose, lose, then bump up and then sit there for a week or so,, then lose, lose lose...

As long as I'm not changing my eating, I don't sweat the ups anymore. I do so love the lose, lose, lose days though!

Google "Why The Scales Lie" for a better understanding of how fat cells fill with water and cause weight fluctuations. :)

I do the same thing on my stats. Otherwise I would be changing it every single day. The low number always comes back in 3-4 days and I stay there for long over a week! Glad to see I'm not alone!

Yes, I have a definite weight loss pattern. I weigh everyday that I am home. Those times I do lose weight, it's usually the week before and or during my period. I also lose the week of ovulation.

I know this bucks the establishment for women and weight loss, but it's what happens to me. When I do lose, it's usually during those times.

I record the lows and don't concern myself with the highs.

The thread linked to is a great reference! --Betty

My weight does the same thing.

I register a low weight (even though my evil scale wants to keep the previous weight!)

Next day it registers the higher weight from the day before the low weight

I spend the rest of the week cursing the scale for going up, but by a few days, it goes back down to the lower weight.

I weigh every morning a few times and take the lowest reading, bc that's the "real" one. ;) I track my weight trend, so fluctuations (there's lots of those) don't bother me.

Here's something I want to know though. I weigh myself first thing, but I'll weigh again in the morning after I poop. Sometimes, I weigh like a pound more AFTER pooping! What's up with that?

But what if you don't have the FDOD until after you've had your morning coffee?

Then your weight will include anything you eat or drink such as the coffee. ;)
