How many of you have stalled and become discouraged??? Time to change programs. I still believe in the low carb way of living but I encourage any or all of you who have stalled with the same ol same ol to join me for a 6 week program where we watch our fat intake as well. That means no dairy, mainly protein and veggies... Who wants to join and lets post this weeks stats...Weight/Body fat if you prefer/and your committment level.

Here goes.... I am at 154 pounds, and will keep fat low, good veggies high and carbs low. I will committ 6 weeks to this program and will post daily, weekly my success and failures. This is day 1 for me and my committment level is HIGH. I will be on the beaches of Panama City in April and I WILL feel great about this body of mine. Thanks to all who want to participate and please encourage each other.

Today I started with a protein shake (mixed with water and sweetner) no carbs, no fat. MMMMMMMMd

Lunch was low fat turkey slices (no additives) celery, cucumbers and green beans (up to 10 carbs of veggies MAX). Lots of water.

Planning a dinner of turbo cooked chicken, with a medley of veggies and lots of salad with a mustard/sweetner/water in the blender dressing with a hint of dill. MMMMMMMM

Day 1 is feeling great.....as it always does!!!!

Yes...I am there too. I am so tired of going up and down the same three pounds. Over the weekend I made a similar decision. There is no point in doing something that is not successful. I am going back to the start and staying away from the low-carb store (cheesecake, crackers and chocolate) and eating more meat and drinking lots of water.

What a coincidence. I too am fed up (no pun intended) with a 6 week stall. I started the LC rotation diet just yesterday. Today is the Fat Fast day and I am about to go nuts. I am starving...Is it dinner time yet???

I'll check in on you guys in a few days and see how you are feeling. Good luck!

I need to get serious again as well..... What is this low carb rotation diet and where can I get more information on it?!?

where is this rotation diet... i am in a rut myself

Tue, Feb-19-02, 19:04
however, I just went grocery shopping and I have tons of hamburger, chicken wings, and cheesecheese. So..I'll check in on you guys and maybe will join you next week. The only thing is that after Thanksgiving, for about two weeks, I ate mostly lean meats and veggies (worked out every day) and my weight loss slowed down more than ever. Well, I guess we'll see...

Good Luck,

E

Are you guys going to stay in this forum to do posts?

HI Misselly,

What you describe is pretty much how I have been eating since August, and I am EXTREMELY pleased with my results. I am actually wearing skimpy tank tops tucked into shorts this summer!

I keep the carbs low, fat low, sodium low, and alternate exercising with weights with walking. A daily multi-vitamin and I suppose water around the three-litre mark.

I am soooooo close to goal weight! It was a real thrill today to mark that weight down into the 120s!

I won't tell you about the bad things I do!

babs...what do you consider bad? Erin wants to know.. To answer some of the questions I am not sure what the rotation diet is, but I know and from what TX-mama says.... there is a LC rotation diet. I am not sure what it is... What Babs describes as successful is what I am going to try for the next six weeks. Low carb, controlled fats and veggies (no, not carrots and potatoes) up to 10 grams per meal. This is not a ton of food, but eat when hungry. Use free foods,, like diet jello, crystal light, vinegar, mustard, herbs, all those exciting things, to fill in the times when you need a sweet thing. Well done babs.....how long has this taken you??

Hi Misselly, Im interested to read this today. What you describe is my induction, and I havent lost much since really, thats 5 months. Ive been trying to keep cals up to 10x weight in lbs. and fats to 65 %. This is what Im reading all over the place.....and what works for masses of people......

Im really confused by it all..... eating the fat gives me energy, so Im reluctant to give up , can you tell me what % protein and % fat you are aiming for ? are there any journals I can look at ?Or more sample menus?

I dont think I can bear to be hungry again, having been hungry and dieting most of my life, but I am anxious to see some progress soon. Surely there has to be an answer?

misselly
Wed, Feb-20-02, 05:55
do not let me discourage you from eating till you are full.... i lost 40 pounds eating that way.... but not much since. my body has become wise to the low carb thing and has made adjustments to accomodate its incredible desire to store fat. I have been able in the last month to loose 4 pounds which is more than i have lost in the last 4 months..!!!! I have protein drinks whenever hungry, meals are done in the turbo cooker (chicken (no skin) and veggies (brocolli and cauliflower etc.) snacks are usually light jello. I do not intend on living like this.... I do this to change my body's response to the food I was eating. It has been tricked again and I think that is good. I went to a 6 week diet class (low carb, high fat, high protein) The newcomers all lost over 12 pounds and the old timers lost 0. We cannot give up because this is the best maintenace lifestyle I can think of. We believe in the concept, but we need to give ourselves a boost to get down another 10 pounds.... agree???

I am curious...while you have been stalled have you still had purple keytone strips? I have found that mine have been noticealble tan until I dropped the problem foods. Is it possible to still be purple and not be losing?

Misselly and Erin,

I have been doing this for about six and a half months.

Bad things I do:

Within reason, I eat whatever I want on Saturday night, but ONLY if I have not had an occasion during the week, such as dinner at my in-laws and my father-in-law's famous fish and chips! Mind you it is usually easy on the chips, heavy on the salad.

A typical Saturday night indulgence would be say a thin crust pizza and a beer. Or perhaps a bit of rice with an Indian curry, or say a serve of scalloped potatoes with the meatloaf and veggies. Nothing way over the top but enough to keep me sane. I am lucky not to have a sweet tooth.

I consciously chose not to diet from Christmas Day to New Year's Day - luckily no weight gain. Next year I will probably do the same.

I have red wine with dinner.

I am a rotten breakfast person so my first meal of the day is often not until 10 or 11am, and it more resembles lunch.

And the worst one!!!! I felt so good about being in this new body, I let myself get a suntan this year. Didn't even LOOK at the sunscreen!

Erin4980
Wed, Feb-20-02, 18:15
None of that sounds too bad;)

My only question, in the 6.5 mos. how much have you lost? Also, do you find that the Saturday night free meal, brings on cravings?

Thanks for the info and the secrets:)

Erin

Oh, and you can still get tan w/ sunscreen...I carry a bottle in the back of my bikini bottoms just so I can reapply like crazy:)

Babs
Wed, Feb-20-02, 18:42
Hi Erin,

I have lost 40 pounds in that time. I would like to perhaps get down to 120 pounds but I have set 125 for now. I will be in Hawaii in July so maybe the 120 pounds and a new bikini can be that goal!

I read much on here about cravings but I can honestly say I have not experienced any. I do believe that comes from never having been a big eater of cakes, pies, biscuits or any sweets, really.

I prepare my husband's meals with potatos, pasta, rice etc (those are my weaknesses) but from day one, I have not had an urge to put them on my plate.

What level sunscreen? I usually use 30+.

Erin4980
Wed, Feb-20-02, 19:02
If I'm going to St Thomas or the Bahamas, I go tanning about 6-10X, but to only get a very light base...if you saw how pale I was then you woud forbid me to bo south of the Mississippi River...lol. So I guess I shouldn't talk. I usually have to start at 20-25 and than by the end of the week I can start using 15. I bring more sunscreen on vacation...I never thought about it before...lol.

I want to go to Hawaii so bad...I going to save it for my honeymoon;)

Hi,

Your enthusiasm is catchy!!!! I decided to join you as of today! (got tuna and mayo in the office fridge, but just give it to someone else)

I'm 5'6 and not sure about my weight as gave up looking at the scales, last time it was 140, so 140lbs it is, my goal is 120lbs, but to be honest I'll be happy to see any result. It started getting a bit frustrating recently. I think my problem is eating too many calories and mainly through nuts (up to 200g in one go). Misselly, are you having those on your 6week blitz?

So today for breakfast I had bacon (cut all the visible fat) and tea with 1tsp milk :o and sweetener. Ok, no dairy anymore (I've stumbled across this journal when I'd already had my breakfast.

Don't know what's for lunch in our canteen yet. And dinner.... I find this time is the most difficult for me, that's when the Ella binge starts.

Wish me luck!

And forgot to mention I'm trying to do yoga every morning and going to the gym at least 2 times a week

Ella
Tue, Feb-26-02, 04:56
Oh, forgot. What do you have for breakfast? Can I have scrambled eggs? Or any eggs at all? No sausages I guess, as they are quite fatty... So what would be your choice?

Just had a nice Tuna steak in tomato and olives sause (took off tomato bits). Feeling really full.

misselly
Tue, Feb-26-02, 08:21
Ella....Elly here....

Welcome... Breakfast is not my favorite meal.... On days when I was really hungry I had Scrambled egss with whites only, fried with onions and mushrooms and green, orange and red peppers.... spices etc.
Most days I have a chocolate whey protein shake.... made with water, sweetner and ice cubes....MMMMM I love that.... Mid morning i have cucumber , celery if i am hungry...

lunch is ususally fish done in the turbo cooker with a big salad with a low fat dressing.....

dinner is not huge...like you i like to pick.... so at 4 i have 1/2 a meal and at 6 have the other 1/2.....a veggie and a protein.... that lasts me the night.... NO DAIRY>>>>>> it has been great...

good luck stay tuned.... I will be posting my 1 weeks results later today....

Ella
Tue, Feb-26-02, 09:51
Hi, Elly!

I think it's a good idea to do this. It will definitely keep me from cheating on all the legal treats.

I don't know why, but I don't feel like snacking, and it's nearly 4pm here. I work quite long hours starting at 7.30 and finishing round 6pm. So sometimes I depend a lot on our in-house canteen, unless I decide to pop out and search for LC lunch, not an easy mission I must say.

I had so little today (mainly protein) comparing to all my other days and I don't feel peckish. Like it! Feel less bloated too.

I'll keep you posted how it goes!

Looking forward to your 1st week results!

Im watching your progress with great interest. I have been off dairy for ages, reintroduced it last week -- gained, and sinus troubles to boot. Off dairy again now, needless to say !

My problems arent just dairy tho' I havent been all that successful so far. I think I need to eat more protein than I have been..... ate more today and feel a bit improved in myself. Ive been so tired and no energy.... that wasnt right, its just taken me ages to see it.

the protein shake sounds interesting.... is available in uk I wonder ??
will check in later to see how you all are.

Tue, Feb-26-02, 14:47
When you say dairy - do you mean cheese too? I think how I've gotten through this WOL is that I know I can have some "bad" things like - full fat ranch dressing and bacon. I love that all of you have the will and strength to do this and I will be there till the end watching but I will have to stay on the side lines.

Good Job MissElly,

Dairy is anything like butter, cream, milk, cheese, yes cheese cream cheese etc. It is just not the kind of fat our body likes..... at least its not the kind of fat MY body likes.... I have had some soy veggie slices... closes thing to cheese i'll get.... they are quite nice.... made in Orlando florida.... taste like mozzerla (SP?) cheese... I am so pumped I'm burnin' calories just thinking about how great I'm gonna look......

Hi, girls!

Thought it would be better if I post 1day menu in one place. so yesterday I had:

B: 6rashes of bacon (trimmed visible fat)
1 tea with 1tsp milk (last one promise) + sweetener
L:Tuna Portugese in plum tomato and olive sauce
D: Thai baked mackerel with peppers and one slice beef tomato
Snack: 10 black and green olives.

Wow! first day without a single nut - I'm still alive!

Weighed myself yesterday.... Shock!!! 143lbs!!! I wasn't particular strict these days - so gained 5lbs. I hope this group venture will help me to take more control of what I eat.

Feeling good with less carbs, and very determined to shift that weight!!

Wow! Elly, Melanie! look at you! getting good results already!
I hope I'll see that shift when hopping on scales again in a week.

Melanie, I did Fat Fast twice... Yes I did loose around 6-8 pounds both times, but I think it's mainly water, as I gained them back again. Besides, if you are loosing already why do you want to do it? It's only for those who tried everything and still have had no luck. It's good if you want to give your system a bit of a shock. Let us know how you are getting on.

I had only roast chicken leg in our canteen, had to eat skin too, as it was SOO dry. Feel full, but a bit bloated. Isn't it strange, because I didn't have any carbs at all, unless they used sugar marinade or something. Anyway, my trousers feel slightly looser today... Is it my imagination ;)

What's been your total lose for the week?

Just a curious mind,

I started feb 19th at 154....today I was 149.5....so that is 5.5 pounds in 8 days.....That is more than I expected but this is a new system for my body. I have said before and I believe that your body learns to adapt to changed lifestyles..... so we have to continually fool the old body.... I hope to end the day at about 800 calories... If I don't its no big deal.... I never let my blood sugar go below 4.5 and I never let myself get hungry. I am satisfying real hunger needs and I must have more green veggies tomorrow.... have a great night.

Ok,

Another day... not a single nut - still breathing. Don't feel bloated anymore, looking good.

Yesterday I had:
B:fried egg (no butter), 3 rashes of lean bacon loins.
L: Chicken leg (had to eat the skin too, as it was too dry)
D: Roasted chicken tikka with brussel sprouts and fine beans
S: more chicken!

I'm trying to keep both carbs and fat down.

My trousers are definitely looser. :daze:

I think it's a really good idea to do this group journal. I stopped eating so much of so called 'legal suff', and cravings stopped too. Whenever I feel like getting some nuts and cheese now I keep thinking would I have to lie tomorrow and skip posting them in my menu. ;) Definitely works for me!

I take multi-vit with minerals and they even contain EFA (Solgar) plus fish oil in capsules. I stopped taking Chromium as somebody posted here that iit's got some bad review recently. :(

You are doing great!

I think I'll wait with weighing myself, really want to see some positive result to keep me going.

I work in a bank in the City, quite long hours, so it's not easy to plan ahead, and by the time I get home I feel so tired so can't be bothered to spend too long in the kitchen.... but if you want to know what you are eating you have to prepare it yourself I suppose. So I'm trying my best.

Went to the spinning class (cycling) during lunch break, so had my lunch quite late, not very good idea as I'm still starving.

Melanie, how did you manage on the Fat Fast? Did you feel hungry at all. I did mine on macadamias and cream cheese, and felt quite full all the time.

melanie 27
Thu, Feb-28-02, 13:11
I ate 5 oz macadamias & 1 oz almonds felt full all day no hunger very satisfied.Although next time I do it I wont post about as I felt I got chewed out about it in another post. Its not like Im going to stay on it just wanted to try it.I actually quit enjoyed it.& to tell you the truth today im going to do a partial fat fast 2 oz macadamias today 2 oz almonds & I'll have a small dinner to satisfy my hubby..It seems every time I just post my 2 cents & thats all it is not expert advice I get chewed out.So I wont be posting my 2 cents any more.anyone else ever feel this way?or is it just me??& when I loose any thing I always here dont get your hopes up is probably just water & the scale will be back up oh well then I'll deal with it why cant I just enjoy it now.ya all no what I mean Sorry im ranting here.Dont feel I can anywhere else on the forum.I no alot of us are questioned because were cutting back our calories.Well sorry if I steped on anyone elses toes ;) Dont worry its none of you ;) I might just start posting in my journal at fit day so its private cause I really dont wanna get chewed out anymore.welp bye now dont no if I'll be back on the forum

what is all this about nuts and you????? did I miss a post where you spoke of an addictions to nuts???

melanie 27
Thu, Feb-28-02, 14:07
lol no im not addicted lol

I tried the fat fast with just nuts yesturday.Today Im having nuts for breakfast snack & lunch very carefully measured of course then I'll eat a regular dinner sort of going to slowly wean myself off the very short fat fast I did lol..just expermenting to see what helps me loose weight apperntly raising my fat grams & lowering my calories is the answer so that will be my object to keep fat grams up protein at a minumum & calories below 1700.With no dairy of course thow I gotta admit to cheating last night with a tiny slice of my LC cheesecake. Its H/M only 3.1 carbs for that cheat..see ya all latter

misselly
Thu, Feb-28-02, 14:28
that's not much of a cheat....the bottom line is control of carbs, isn't it...the reduction or elimination of dairy is a bonus and helps reduce the overall number of calories.... keep up the great work...

Look at my carbs..... very spread out....2 here and there...4 gm was the highest in a low fat/turkey breast...

best part of my day was the bbq chicken which was divine....

I have corrected the fitday chart, so my numbers here are a little off but only by calories...which is still within range...

I weighed myself today... I'm down 1.5lbs !!

I've started this on Tuesday, and here you go! Brilliant! I think that I know where my problem was, it's constant snacking.

Melanie, there's nothing wrong with eating nuts and 2 days of Fat Fast can kick-start your weight loss. The main thing it did for me it made my stomack smaller. When I finished it I noticed I couldn't eat too much. My problem is (always was) I'm too addicted to apples and nuts. I always thought there was nothing wrong with that. I managed to stay away from apples on this diet, but nuts.... I can't stop at 1oz, my affection for them goes far beyond that. We are talking a couple of pounds a day. Now I cut them out and my weight loss kicked in again.

I've noticed that If I eat something I really enjoy there's always a danger of overeating, and vice versa. If I have bacon (which I don't like much) for breakfast, I feel no hunger till lunch at all, I don't even feel like having my lunch. strange! Of course you can't live on bacon, and can rebel very soon - have pizza and ice cream! ;)

way to go Ella...
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

I agree on the overeating thing...

let me share....

There is a wonderful creamy to die for yoghurt that I love... I bought one 2 days ago. I go to the fridge the odd time and just put a taste on a knife and enjoy that taste for as long as I can...I remind myself that the next 67 bites would taste the same...the difference is they would make me feel horrible. So now I get to do this a few times a day, many times a week without the emotional pain. So happy things are working...

Well, let me tell you all.....I do NOT look like her... we are within 50 pounds but her body fat is about 23% less than mine!!!!!! As she smiled at everyone in sight, I asked her if she had had six kids like me. No she replied, so I said....There you go.... that's why you look so good.....No kids!!!!!!!!! Phew.... I sure felt better after hearing the answer.... The crowd must have thought..."Poor lady.... look at her.... she'll never look like Miss Universe here...." Ok , so I'm jealous.....

Ella you'll be missed!! & congradulations!!!!!!!

Well still same O'l 194.5 pnds that was a 4.5 pnd loss last week WOW!!!!& Ive managed to keep it off :D & Tom Is even trying to come been spotting 4 days now.If I start this will be my first ever normal cycle this way of life has been a GODSEND to me.Over the weeeeekend I was a bad girl & had some dairy but not much this weeek no more dairy again.its hard on weeekends because Hubbys home all day.I really think that fat fast helped me kick start my weightloss so against alot of others advice Im still doing a partial fat fast starting today day will be as follows

Breakfast,snack,lunch,snack = macadamias
Dinner= FOOD!!! :p & A SLICE OF CHEESECAKE FOR DESERT.

I like the partial fast because I still can get some extra nutrients while keeping my sodium low been keeping it 500 or below this last week I was averaging during my stall almost 4000 grms sodium. We have a convention we go to for the apostolic church at the end of March & Im hoping to drop another 10 pnds by then..I no alot of people say fat fast is dangerous but I have added some food for dinner.& I feel great on it in his book he says if you feel good after 2 days on it you'll be fine.I really think I was resisting weightloss.I got a little low on my water intake this weekend so Im catching up today. well im off . How are ya misselly????

THATS AWSOME misselly!!!!

Doesnt it feel great.Yes the Macadamias are my favorite because there the lowest in protein & highest in fat.Well TOMS gone on saturday my weigh in was 193 but ive been bad & had diet soada all weeekend no other fluids :( So I have a feeling I'll see that 193 again any day since im back on track nows time to get rid of that water retention from that stupid diet pepsi.Drinkin up on my H2O today :D You no I was read DANDR & he says to exclude all dairy if you have an intolerance (usually because of the mold) but you can have cream cheese still guess it dont contain mold hmmmm but im not going to get trigger happy with that stuff again but its nice to no I can still have a slice of my LC cheesecake for desert if I want to. Well Ive decided that at least 2 days a week Im going to do a fat fast on Monday & Tuesdays I need to do a total fast for the Lord this week too.I will be having dinner on mondays & tuesdays but it will be only meat.Ive seeen a big defferance since I cut back my veggies & carbs even more My carbs have been betweeen 5-15 the last few weeeks & I ve felt great!!! Well better go write in my journal bye

ps.....YES I HAD A GREAT WEEKEND...We went shopping & I got some new cloths wearing a size 14-16 now was a 18-22 before DANDR 18 WERE to tight thow  was more of a 20-22 but didnt want to admit it so keept bying cloths to small  LOL NNow I can by my true size & not be ashamed cant wait tell im a size 7-8 again!!! :D

Our praise and worship includes their songs as well as songs inspired by the music ministry at the church.... All very exciting. All 6 of my kids are involved and share our love for this church and its focus. Praise God for that!!!!!

Hi Mel.... Hi Arnie
and welcome.... This is the place to do a blitz.... Mel is doing great and I have had great success. I weigh in on Thursday and I expect great results. I low carb without the dairy and high fat.... its working.... what is your situation...???

arnie
Mon, Mar-18-02, 22:20
I'm so glad to join you guys. l LC period. I tried Atkins and Cad and I see that what works best is if I do protein and veggies while keeping my carbs around 25. I found that when following CAD I had absolutely no will power when it came to the reward meal. So, I have no high carb foods. So far I've lost 2 lbs, but I haven't been as strict as I should be. Now I'm keeping track of carbs and calories. The big Cs.

Tue, Mar-19-02, 05:24
Arnie.... Welcome again.... Both Mel and I are serious about a change.... I have passed on to the group many times in other threads that I am fed up losing the same 20 pounds year after year..... I started at 194 about 2 years ago.... I have LC'd on and off and in the last 6 months been very faithful to LC. Problem???? I could not get below 160ish. As good as I was, the scale rarely moved. I changed as of Feb. 19th.....That was the beginning of the blitz and since then little to NO dairy...No cheese, no cream etc. Hence, calories are way down.... I drink alot of protein shakes that are low in carb and fat.... Its working..... I was at 146 pounds last week. Started at 154 (on the blitz). Also work out twice a day whenever possible.... Be faithful to you..... It will pay off...

arnie
Tue, Mar-19-02, 14:50
Good for you!!! How did you find out that dairy was the problem?

I too have lost the same 10-15lbs over and over. I've done LC before, but never viewed it as a WOL, so some days I was good, but most of the time I was bad. This time is different. I've made up my mind that I'm going to do it once and for all.

Tell me, if you don't mind sharing, the name of the shakes that you use. I haven't been able to find one that's drinkable w/ lc low cal.

Arnie....

My favorite is NHF (Nu-Spoirt Health and Fitness) WheyDelicious.

2 Scoops is 140 calories, 4 carb and 2 fatgrams

I mix with 3/4 cup of water 1 sweetner and ice cubes....

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I love it.... No strange after taste...

USE A BLENDER!!!!!

Thu, Mar-21-02, 17:55
Thanks for the info. My eating has been pretty consistent. The scale reads that I'm down 2lbs., so something must be working. My goal for next week is to workout at least 5xs next week.

I find that if I set mini goals for myself each week I do lots better than trying to do everything at once.

Where did you find WheyDelicious? I've been online and to the Vitamin Shoppe and I can't find it. I think a high protein shake would be a good substitute for my high fat breakfast.

Thanks,
Arnie
