I love those frozen blenned drinks from Starbucks but I can't have them now because of the sugar. What do you all recommend getting from there that is sugar free or very little sugar that won't effect our weight loss? I need some ideas for a cold drink. The hot coffees are easy it pick.

iced americanos..you can add sf syrups and half n half or just splenda or whatever...it is espresso and water over ice :yum:

Breve latte's are LC but very high in calories and fat....really high. I know we dont worry about that as much as carbs, but lisanbil gave the nutritional info on it in a thread, and it's kind of extreme for one drink

I'm ALL for the Americano's, iced or hot.

IF you add heavy cream and sweetener, it is just as luxurious as any other coffee beverage. You can also add sugar free vanilla or other syrups.

One shot of espresso is about 1 carb. A grande Americano has 3 shots, a venti has 4. Factor in heavy cream and sweetner and it's only about 5-6 carbs per one drink :)

I get an iced coffee with a splash of cream and a shot of sugar free cinnamon dulce syrup and a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. Very decadent and yummy.

I sometimes ask for hot chai tea (not a chai latte) and then a cup of ice and pour the hot chai on the ice with a couple of pumps of SF vanilla syrup and a splash of heavy cream

i agree with everyones suggestions. and if you dont feel like coffee, their iced teas are good without sweetener, so you can add your own, or you can try the passion iced tea sweetened with sf vanilla which i found quite tasty. OR you can even make your own italian soda, cuz most sell san pelligrenos, and you can have that with watever sf syrups.

There's not much choices in the Startbucks of Hong Kong. I usually wouuld get Tazo Tea or then have a decaf Cafe Americano with splenda.

Gee... I miss those frap! Huhu :( HK Starbucks don't have the full cream cream because people here are so weight conscious.

Most ladies in HK are under-weight and once you take a look in the magazines, it's all ads about diet and loosing weight.

It's really difficult to "survive" here. Anyone from HK or Asia?

Thanks You all. I'll have to try the Americanos. I live in south Tx so I only drink the hot coffees in the mornings or during our short winters. Believe it or I don't drink tea. But love the rich gourmet coffees.

I read this thread on Friday afternoon and was excited that I could go to Starbucks and get the iced Americano sugar-free! Yeah! So I go there yesterday while at the mall shopping and specifically asked the guy behind the counted what sugar-free syrups they offer, and then ordered a venti with sugar-free caramel syrup. Well, apparently the guy that took my order did not get it relayed correctly to the guy who actually made my drink, because while I'm drinking this luscious iced goodness, I thought, "wow, I'm getting drunk". (Sugar does that to me). Then about 30 minutes later I was in serious hypoglycemic attack mode while by myself at the mall! I hadn't had anything with sugar in it for over 6 months and no longer carry candy in my purse to keep me from passing out! I am still upset that they did not get my drink right and will not trust them again.

I'm soooo leery of those 'baristas'. I just order a black, house blend.

The Starbucks I just visited had no sf syrups (but I bet I wouldn't trust them). I'll just save my money, thank you very much.

I usually just order a plain, black coffee, but it was 101 degrees in Oklahoma yesterday and I thought it would be lovely to have something cold. Never again will I trust those kids behind the counter! Still paying the price today cause I can't seem to get my cravings in check. Aaaarrrrrr!!!

Wow Cher - that was a terrible trick for them to play on you!

Have you written to their head office suggesting some sort of compensation due?

I would have went back their & asked to speak w/ manager & complained to them , & you would have probably gotten a free drink.

For future reference the most sugar free syrups they will carry are SF vanilla, SF hazelnut and SF cinnamon dolce. I think the vanilla or the hazelnut is sweetened with aspartame too.

Thanks for all the good ideas. I think I will call to speak to the manager and let them know that most people ask for the sugar-free syrups because of health needs/concerns. An employee's negligence could cause problems for someone with diabetes or hypoglycemia. In my case, the instant I realized my blood sugar was crashing, I ran to a vending machine and got a package of peanut butter crackers. By the time I began eating them, I was already light-headed and trembling.

Does anyone know if the sugar free Lattes are ok for us or do they have a lot of carbs? I wished that they could make a sugar free frappacino. A place near by called Java Junction makes sugar free frapps but I'm not sure how many carbs are in them I asked the lady there but she didn't know.

Lattes are made with milk-a tall would have 10 oz of milk about 14 carbs and 2 oz of espresso.

I can make a meal out of a venti decaf w/ a couple tablespoons of heavy cream (and some stevia or splenda if I don't have stevia with me).

That monster beverage will fill you up a long time, especially if you drink it after a light meal.

I also second the iced Americano with just a tad of heavy cream to give it color.

I have never tried the syrups, I'm afraid of them.

PS once you drink a bit of the iced Americano, ask for more ice and it's just super!

Thanks I didn't even think about the carbs thats in the milk. I'm guessing lattes are a once in a treat.

BTW I wrote to Starbucks requesting a sugar free frappacino for those of us who can't have sugar.

Hi Cher,

Me too, I always suspect that something is wrong if I cannot see the "sugar free" label with my eyes like the Coke Light/Zero. May be I am paranoid because I used to work for Intel hahaha...

I normally ask the one who serve me if it's sugar free then sometimes I ask my BF to taste test for me hehe...

Don't worry you will forget those cravings soon. Hang on.

Thanks Josimk! I hope they can cater to the Asia market too! We don't have any SF syrup here :(

LazyCat, hello there  I don't live in Asia, but visited China this summer, and I know exactly what you mean, all the girls are soooooo tiny, they are not all short petite, some same height as me or taller but still very thin, however they look fine with it, even the western girls there are really thin, however when western girls are thin some how they look gaunt and skinny, bu on an Asian ladies they look fine and quite the norm, wonder why? may cuz most ladies have a round healthy looking face ?

Also I know what you mean re the ads in magazines & TV screens, they are obsessed with slimming and beauty products....HK / Cantonese food is supposed to be best for keeping slim cuz a lot of the food is watery soup based.

Btw: are you originally from HK, or from the west and working there?? How long have you been there?

oh I wanted to add, I think at my highest weight I never got over the 155 and I really think this is because I never got into the Starbucks and other chain coffees.... I have the occasional Soya mocha (occasional as 1 in every 3-6 months) and I really think if I was eating what I ate plus the 350 to 200 calories added from 1 cup from starucks daily, my weight would have gone a lot higher... ditch the habit, and let those chain take your money  think of it as if you are quitting smoking

You should write to them & when they see more & more request maybe they'll realize people want it & if they can't get it from them, then they'll be going somewhere where they can get it.

It's because they have smaller bone structure.
