Hi All,
I have been on and off Atkins for quite some time and now I am back! I have successfully lost 30 pounds last year but then I gave in... Always wanted to go back to the diet and finally I have started again on Aug. 20 (Monday). I hope to loose around 60 pounds because I have a very small frame.
I just don't know why this time around, I feel much more thirsty. I now drink around 3 to 4 liters of water a day. Then my breath really stinks! :P I am not sure if it's because I am too restrictive this time that cause my bad breath and feeling thirsty.
What I do now is I put some lemon slices in my water jug to add some flavor to my water. I feel tasteless and all... and a bit tired. I guess I am just experiencing carb withdrawal.
I have not started exercising yet and I hope to start by next week (or early September... see I am really lazy :P)
Well would love to hear what you guys think about this.
Thanks!

Hi  I'm Heather. I have done the Atkins in the past (3 yrs ago) and fell off and now I am back on and I am staying on. I have changed my way of thinking that this is not a diet but a change in lifestyle. ;)
To answer your questions........Your breath could very well be because of ketosis ;) What foods are you eating? You may be intaking high sodium without knowing it.

Hi Heather,
Well, I am taking ham omelet for breakfast. Yes, I think ham has too much sodium but I did not know that sodium can cause bad breath.
Not sure how much longer I can hold on... I miss those carb!
I want to stay away from processed meat but then there's not much choice for me.
Well wish me luck and hope to hear from the rest of you.
Cheers,
S.Brooks

Lazy Cat,
I am in my second week of induction ( not first time doing low-carb ) and I always seem to have a dry mouth. I carry bottles of water with me wherever I go and always place a glass of water beside my bed at night. I take this as a good sign that induction is working and I like that it forces me to drink plenty of water. I've never been a huge fan of plain water and now I drink it constantly...can't be a bad thing, can it?
As for your breath, I feel like I always have a bitter taste in my mouth. I don't know if others can notice my breath. I brush my teeth often and use mouth rinse. I asked my husband and he said he didn't notice any breath odor from me. But once again, I take the bitter taste and thirst as great signs that this is working and my body is changing. : ) However, I do agree with Heather about the sodium. Sodium can't cause bad breath, but I think she meant that it could cause your excessive thirst. In the beginning, I got a bit carried away with bacon ( one of my fave foods!) and I know that contributed to my constant thirst and I had a bit of ankle swelling...which is how my body has always reacted to too much salt intake, regardless of low carb eating or not. Hope this helps. Take care.

Hi S.Brooks,
Thanks for your feedback. Oh yeah, the sodium will make me thirsty, also the MSGs. It's so difficult to find food without MSG when you eat out all the time. I live in Hong Kong and it's so convenient that not a lot of pepole cooks at home.
Seems our starting weight is quite similar. Let's keep encouraging each other.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Cheers,
