Hi guys
As some of you may have read I started doing a part Kimkins low carb diet. I only say part because I am too greedy to do the portion part of it. :yum: It's basically like Atkins except I am not eating any cheese. I am happy to say, I have lost 10 pounds in the last two weeks. However, someone told me there mom was doing some kind of hot water diet, I googled it, but did not find out much about it. I want to lose another 3-5 pounds in the next 2 weeks, and anything extra that I can do I welcome. It seems that you just drink hot water with lemon. Can anyone help? If anyone does another buddy challenge let me know about that too. Thanks, this forum is great, especially when dieting alone. :help:

Do you mean ADD hot water and lemon to your existing plan or subsist on hot water and lemon alone?
A lot of people start the day with a cup of hot water with lemon juice (and it is part of at least one plan) whether it would help you lose weight is questionable.
You would lose weight if you only drank hot water and lemon, but it's not a good idea and most people couldn't keep that up for more than a few days. Then you'd have to eat something and you'd likely be so hungry that you would eat unwisely. It's probably best to stay on the plan that's working for you.

They may have been talking about the Master Cleanse diet which I know involves some sort of weird water mixture. Sure, you'll lose weight, but the second you start eating again it all comes back. If you're low-carbing and relatively new to it I don't see why you wouldn't lose 3-5 pounds in two weeks.

I am referring to drinking the hot water in addition to my diet. I am not new to Low carbing, this is my second time around.

My former mother in law did that.. but it was for constipation.
I'd rather have a tea or coffee.

I saw an article about this in Woman's World magazine a couple of weeks ago. Something along the lines of drinking different temperatures of water (ice, hot and room temperature) during different times of the day speeds up your metabolism.

According to the Fat Flush author, drinking the lemon water first thing in the morning will help stimulate bile production which in turn will help the liver burn fat. I don’t know how much use it would be if you didn’t follow the other liver healing recommendation though.
Also having lemon juice or vinegar with a meal will help lower the glycemic load of the whole meal. You can take some lemon by itself or use it in a dressing or on top of the food. This is more useful in moderate carb plans though than in VLC because in VLC you really don’t have to worry much about lowering the load.

sounds quacky to me. fat stimulates bile production. Why would water and lemon? What was the science?
Still sounds like hooey to me.

Hiya Pennink :)
I have the book here and there are some results of experiments that she conducted on different groups of dieters but they’re too long for me to type out right now. There is also some mention of the lemon thinning the bile which becomes thickened by trans fats and then cannot do it’s job properly. So I might have been wrong in saying aids the production of bile - it thins the bile.
There’s a lot to the plan and I know that it’s worked miracles for many members here so although I can’t find a “science” behind it I wouldn’t say it’s hooey. It might be that the plan would work without the lemon water in the morning but for me it was all part of it. The lemon water became a habit in the morning ritual that made for a good start on being on plan the rest of the day.
If you’re in a book store or library and see the FF book you can just look in the index under bile, there’s only a few pages and you’ll find the experiments on them. (if you're that interested that is  )

ahhhhh, thins it... okay, that makes sense!
I'm not sure just the warm water and lemon would do much though, do you? Gotta do more than that?
I do know it moves the bowels though as any warm liquid can do in the morning.

I agree, you can’t expect that alone to do much for you. The FF plan is considered by some quite strict and complex and there are several MUST do’s and I think they all work together.
It does as you say seem to work as a laxitive for some though and it can’t hurt. I actually got to enjoy the lemon water after the first week or so, and if they Maya lemons are in season it’s really good. For me it’s the ritual, drinking the lemon water means I have good intentions for the rest of the day
