I love this stuff! I was searching for breakfast ideas and someone here suggested Flax Meal. I bought the cinnamon spice flavor and it rocks! I sweeten it with one packet of Splenda and it's really a nice alternative to eggs. (I was getting sick of eggs)

Prior to LC'ing, I ate a packet of instant oatmeal every morning. The Flax Meal is a great replacement and it's so low in carbs. :D

I agree! Its wonderful and soooo healthy! I have been eating a couple times a weeks for awhile now, oatmeal and flax cereal and I have made muffins with it aswell.

MyDelaney, it sounds like you are talking about the Flax-O-meal because that is the only one I know of that comes flavoured (and it IS good). There's a whole conversational thread on this product alone.

GWilson, it sounds more like you are using the straight flaxseed meal (ground flaxseeds), available in bulk many places, or from Bob's Red Mill, for example.

Just clarifying here.

Yep, I was referring to Flax O Meal.

Hi There,
I know it can get confusing between the name of our cereal (FlaxOmeal) and regular ground flaxseed meal. :-) Our cereal is flavored (although the chocolate has been discontinued) and flaxseed meal is not flavored. Ground flax tastes kinda nutty and is great for adding to shakes or even over a salad. It's also great in meatloaf instead of breading. I LOVE flax and the benefits of flax and flaxseed oil. Feel free to ask me any questions concerning our products, flax, or just lowcarbing in general. (120 pounds and counting! :-)
Happy Lowcarbing,
Julee

Hi I'm on the west coast in Canada and was wondering where I can purchase flax meal here? I'd rather not order stuff on line but can I go to a health food store, super store etc....? and what is it that I can purchase... ready ground flax etc..? Thx.

Hi,

I looked for flax o meal everywhere and did not find it, and I didn't want to order online either. But the other day I bought some flax seed meal at capers in vancouver. Mixed a few tbsp of ground flax with home made yogurt (made with half & half) and some sugar twin. It tastes good but I would really prefer something hot that is already flavored...

In British Columbia, I buy flaxseed meal at both Safeway and Save-on Foods. It is in the cooler in the health food section. The brand I use is Bob's Red Mill. By the way, I also found it in Superstore in the flour department, but I wouldn't recommend it since it wasn't refrigerated. Anyway, Safeway's was cheaper. (That's a new one!)

If there is a strong enough interest in a food product, I definitely want to know about it, especially such a high-quality product as FlaxOmeal (a ready to prepare flavoured but unsweetened hot cereal mix) seems to be.

Do drop in to the LowCarb Co-op forum in the LowCarb Products forum and keep me posted on what you really really want... !

I use flavorings in my coffee all the time instead of buying gourmet flavored coffees. And I have the ground flax seed that I buy at the health food store and I cook it like hot cereal and I love it. I can certainly add a little flavoring to it if I want it flavored. I think mine has 5 carbs per 2 T., so I don't eat it often.

Dear Atrsy and anybody else who might be interested, there ARE of course a few recipes, both in the LowCarb Kitchen forum and in the Readers' Recipes section right here at this website, recipes for lowcarb 'hot cereal'.

This product is of interest to those who don't want hunt down and assemble ingredients or enjoy the convenience of a ready-packaged product. This one, especially, is what my Health Food Store manager fella calls "clean", a good Ingredients List, no surprises, no preservatives, etc. etc.

There ya go. To each his/her own.
