How much Alpha Lipoic Acid should I be taking per day?
Is there a maximum amount that is helpful and at which going past that amount won't be beneficial or could be harmful?
Also, should different amounts be taken during different Atkins stages? For example, more when initially starting the induction period to reach ketosis faster, less when in induction for a while, more when having a high-carb meal, etc?
If it matters, I am a 23-year-old female and I weigh around 130 pounds.
Thanks :)

I take Alpha lipoic acid with acetyl l-carnitine as Dr. Bruce Ames recommended in a 2003 Reader's Digest article. He suggested a dosage which I don't remember, but I do know it was slightly different than what I take. I get the combined supplement at Vitacost.com. I have had no problems. Their product is 600 mg alpha lipoic acic and 1 g acetyl l-carnitine.

Someone who's looking for low-cost, store-brand multis might not be making the best use of limited resources by taking alpha-lipo as the second supplement.
Just an opinion.
Personally, I find alpha lipo VERY difficult to take, and I now reserve only for night-time, on those days when I have over-carbed and don't want a carby hangover the next morning. It is terrifically constipating, for me, and makes my head crazy. YMMV.
But in the larger sense--there are definite advantages to spending more on a multi to ensure that the overall basics are covered, and some serious drawbacks to buying store-brand multis.
There are numerous posts within this forum exploring these ideas. A general search might lead you to more information.

a good high quality multi will have Alpha lipoic acid with acetyl l-carnitine in it. Start with the high quality multivitamin and fish oil first.
Then if you want to spend more $ then look at Alpha lipoic acid with acetyl l-carnitine.
