Hi, I'm from Peterborough and have been doing atkins for 6 weeks now. Love this forum and was wondering if there were many pple on here from the Uk and what their experiences have been trying to get low carb foods etc / eating out experiences etc. I have found that i can have takeaway curries without feeling guilty ( as long as i have them without rice and naan of course :) ) my local does a really nice bhindi (ladies fingers) fry and i can have lamb/chicken jalfrezis etc. I just eat it with loads of salad (using lettuce leaves as a substiute naan! ) i also love paneer (indian cheese) with spinach

i managed to find some splenda - v expensive! but i haven't used it yet - i bought when i had a slight sugar craving but managed to beat it and still have the pack unopened - my theory being that if can really avoid having it and the taste for it then i wont be missing any thing . I do indulge in 10g of 85% green and blacks most days though and it doesn't seem to have hindered my progress - scales not moving much but inches dropping off. :) sorry about the ramble - thanks for listening.

Hi

im also from the uk, used this site for years now, back on atkins after about 2 years going of the plan and gaining all the weight id lost - 3 and a half stone, but slowly getting abck on track.

I must say I havent had any curries since back on this plan, and dont know for certain but always assumed that they wud be higher in carbs, with or without rice - but not sure - and if its working for you then do whatever you need to keep on track. Many people might say to cut things out of your diet - but to me i feel like as long as you continue losing at a rate your happy with and can eat some of the things you want then why not.

finding atkins products can be difficult - a few years back when i started atkins i could go to asda, tesco etc and find lots of things like teh shakes and chocolate bars, but not any more - i can only find them in boots at the moment the uk doesnt seem to have cottoned on to the low carb lifestyle (or it may just be my area)

saying that I tend to avoid things like that anyway. eating out isnt a problem - as with anywhere u can always get something like a steak, chicken, fish, salads, low carb veggies. and i still eat donner kebabs without the pitta bread with no problems.

good luck x

hi should make clear that i eat 10g in weight of green and balcks which equates to 2g of carbs!

i tried looking for atkins at boots and was told they don't do it here any more. I guess in a way its kinda better that way - at least i wont be tempted by 'frankenfoods' .

Its like when i was vegetarian for a somne years in my younger days and kept looking for meat substitutes and 'lookey likeys' - meaning that i wasn't really ready to give it up. So , by the same token - if i'm not tempted to find LC 'lookey likeys' and just stick to the natural and home cooked foods as much as possible i've got a better chance of 'desiring' them...though i have found some really delish Young's fish meals which are made with as near as d*mmit 'real' ingredients (cream, butter etc) that are between 3 and 4 g carbs in total - really satisfying with steamed/boiled veggies. and low in cals too.

Hi !
There are quite a few UK Atkineers here - I am from Bournemouth and have been Atkineering since June 2003.

I find it fairly easy to eat out as most places can do plain meat and veggies if asked. We usually eat out at luchtime rather than the evenings and an easy standby Atkins meal is an allday breakfast - bacon, eggs, mushrooms and tomatoes is my normal order!

i've just had my first doner on atkins! i asked for meat and salad no pitta or sauces - i was starving and that was the quickest(tastiest) option at the time. I must say - i've never enjoyed a doner so much ! lol

Hi, yeah I'm well pleased I just started again 2 days ago and was looking for sausages, couldn't find any on Tesco online and while Googling found http://www.theblackfarmer.com/, went to Tescos tonight and they had 3 packs half price, looking forward to breakfast tomorrow :yum:

I'm also in England - Bath but could be moving soon. I did Atkins about 3-4 years ago and lost weight - not sure how much as I never weighed. It was noticeable though. But I couldn't stick with it. I'm doing South Beach now - started near the end of May and am half way to my goal now.

I'm going to experiment and make some 'cheesecake' with sugar free jelly and mascarpone cheese - kind of use a concentrated mix of the jelly instead of gelatine - will let u no how it comes out!

also going to make some rev rolls today !

well i tried out the recipe for rev rolls and was AMAZED! they turend out just like in the picture! ( maybe a little flatter - but not too different) i ate 2 with butter while they were still warm and they tasted a bit like a crosissant! (could taste the egg - but still...!) i've put them in a kwikzip bag as per instructions as they supposedly taste better the next day - cant wait for breakfast!!!

didnt get time to do the 'cheesecake' but will def try it out tmw.
