I have been a member for a while, and absoloutely love reading all of your success stories, but somehow I just never think I am capable. I AM SO SICK of hearing comments like, "You would be so beautiful if you just lost some weight." This time I am not doing it to please anyone but myself. I have fiqured out my weakness. I eat when I feel lonely or depressed, and I even caught myself eating when I got bored. My neice & nephew constantly tell me they want the old me back. I have not always been OBESE, but now I am MORBIDLY OBESE!
It really hit me hard because I was trying to back to school for nursing and finished one semester, but got so discouraged because I could not fit in some of the desks, and if I did manage to get into it.....I was stuck and couldn't get out. I have been all alone for over 3 years. I desperately want to have a family one day........but I know you have to love yourself in order to find love. For extra motivation, I cut most of my hair off, now it sits above my shoulders, and I refuse to get a haircut or have it styled until I lose most of my wieight. I promise to keep you all posted.

Hey, good luck! I know the desk thing... I was at a meeting and got up to leave and the chair came with me.... omg. I was stricken with shame.
Well, one thing though I've found is to keep looking your best during the weight loss. So, even though you're not cutting your hair, always look your best. It's such a great feeling as you lose to get compliments along the way.
I also ate when I was down, bored, lonely, sad, or felt I didn't have anything to do with my hands while watching TV. Now I do electronic jigsaws on my laptop, work on beading, or write. Anything to keep the fingers busy and me away from the fridge. The longer I'm on low carb though the less motivated I am to make a run to the cupboard.
I love this board, too... it's like having a bunch of runners with you all heading to a finish line, encouraging each other along the way. I don't think I could diet with you all!!!!

Hi Grits... You CAN do this. We have the same starting weight.
I started last August, scared by how bad my health was and how fast I was deteriorating from the affects of diabetes and uncontrolled blood sugar. I had all the same fears as you, that I wouldn't be able to do it, First day of the next failure, etc.
I sure didn't want to give up all the carby foods I loved... who does?
But I stuck with it, and to my surprise, it wasn't hard. Here I am 81 pounds down with improvements to my health too many to list. And You can do it too!
Hang around here for lots of great motivation.

Welcome and Congrat's! You have made the first most important, and yet one of the hardest decisions that you can make, to get started on the path of changing your way of eating, for a lifetime. You can do it!
I encourage you to read as much as you can, and learn what others have already gone through. Learn what you can expect along this wonderful journey.
This group is wonderful, and you'll find great encouragement and motivation here.

Grits, it can be done. And believe me, I thought it would never happen for me. Honestly. I was *sure* was going to die obese, alone and unhappy. I tried so many times and it never worked, or if it did, I regained it all eventually.
It only takes once to work. Keep trying, your one time that it will work will happen if you keep trying.
And don't hate yourself through it. You keep trying, it's not easy. Give yourself credit for trying and sacrificing what it takes to make it. Celebrate every day you make it through without overeating.
It really helps to be moving towards something wonderful, not just moving away from something awful. Focus on the rewards at the end, not just how much you hate where you are today.

YOU CAN DO IT! I think that weight loss is easy. It's getting yourself in the right frame of mind that is difficult. And doing that is different for everyone. For me, I just said okay, this is it. This is my last chance or I'm going for bariatric surgery. I honestly don't know why it is working for me this time around but I have lost nearly 45 lbs. in just over three months. I know this may sound too easy or trite but I just convinced myself that cheating is not acceptable. I have not wittingly cheated since I started and it is really starting to pay off. I did accidentally buy a 2 liter of Squirt and was hafway through it before my wife told me it wasn't Diet Squirt. Damn!
You are n the right place. Come around often, post when you can and be open and honest as possible. We all share your feelings and experiences.

One day at the time or in my case, one hour at the time. Live in the present.

Dear Grits: STOP being so hard on yourself. Can already see that you have so much going for you - you have chosen Nursing School (you are a giving person), you have decided to join this forum and have resolved to be healther (you are an intelligent person), your tired of having food/weight issues and now have the determination to change that (you have resolve). So welcome - keep coming here if it takes many times a day - you'll be here and not 'snacking' you'll be feeding that resolve instead. On lc every day you'll be getting healthier and with this group you'll see that we are ALL in this together - the ups and downs of the scale, what you need to do for your body type to reach goal - the answers are here with others and if there not yet, they will be - you are, and will be contributing your journey with us. So thanks for joining - remember it's not a quick fix so be talking to you later! The healthier part, however, (getting rid of sugar and high carb foods) IS a quick fix and you are healthier already, today, right now (and your entire body thanks you) it WILL just keep getting better.

You are so right! It is all in the mind and getting your mind wrapped around the fact that I WILL DO THIS! As I came out of the "carb-fog", I could see more clearly how my thinking had been warped...how I had convinced myself it was normal to go through the McDonald's drive-though window and get a hamburger to eat on the way home from work and then eat dinner and then eat a bag of marshmallows or cookies before bed. I look back now and can't believe how much food I was consuming every single day!
