On Low-Carb For 5 Weeks, Jimmy Moore's Wife Drops 13 Pounds And Six Dress Sizes
Posted by Jimmy Moore on June 26 in Atkins Diet
In the midst of all the brouhaha over Kimkins in recent weeks, someone rather special in my life who I love very dearly has begun doing extremely well on a low-carb diet without really trying that hard. It's the cute and precious woman I call my wife named Christine.
You'll recall Christine FINALLY took my advice to start livin' la vida low-carb in mid-May not to lose weight necessarily, but to get her triglycerides to drop.
Although she's on low-carb primarily as a means for improving her health (as so many people like this are discovering!), an interesting side effect has ensued for Christine--WEIGHT LOSS!
I told her that although she doesn't have a lot of weight to lose, she'll notice her clothes getting looser and the scale will move down. I'm not so sure she believed me at first, but she's a BIG believer now!
Without even trying, Christine has now lost a total of 13 pounds and her dress size has gone from a size 14 down to a size 8 over the past five weeks on the Atkins diet. WOW!!!
We have a running bet now that I can get my weight within 75 pounds of hers (considering I used to weigh nearly 300 pounds MORE than Christine, it's quite a feat!). As of today, I weigh 222 pounds and she weighs 144--78 pounds apart. So she's ahead for now--BUT NOT FOR LONG!

Good for her. I also am one who originally went on Atkins for health reasons and got the beneficial side-effect of weight loss.

Six dress sizes is equivalent to about 50-60 pounds. But size 14 to size 8 is 3 dress sizes, not 6.
Something still doesn't add up, since a dress size is about 8-10 pounds. If she lost 13 pounds, I can see going down maybe 1-2 dress sizes, but 3?

I dropped almost 20 and lost only 1 size :( (went from a 16 to a 14.. I think I have one pair of 12s that fit)..
sounds fishy anyway to say that many sizes..

HairOnFire is right that dropping from 14 to 8 is three dress sizes, not six!
You could only correlate x lbs = y size if you factor in height, as well. Five pounds on me absolutely lets me get into a smaller pair of my jeans, but it wouldn't make a dent in someone who is much bigger than I am to start with.
And sizes are pretty much meaningless, anyway. I tried on a LOT of slacks shopping this weekend and the size tags are a joke. One pair of 4's wouldn't fit over my knees. Another pair maked 4 fell off my hips when zipped up!! Size means nothing unless you are using standardized dimensions, such as the measurements used on old dress patterns. But the stuff on the rack is sized to sell. Each manufacturer uses the size tag to target their customer. Some deflate the numbers wildly, figuring that a woman will buy a dress in a size 4 that she wouldn't buy if it was labled 10 or 12. Other manufacturers (generally the pricier ones) will maintain size "integrity" over the years to satisfy an existing, long-term customer base. Those sizes are truer to the old standards, but even they have given in to some creep.

Possibly, with increased dietary protein, she put on some muscle.

Nelson, so true about the sizing nowadays. If it was Moore who said his wife dropped 6 dress sizes, I might give him the benefit of the doubt because my experience with men is they are completely in the dark about sizes. When I lost my weight on Atkins, I told the guy I was dating I was so excited because I could get into a size 4. His response: "Is that good?"
But Moore's wife should know the difference. Whatever. Glad it's working for her!

I know! At Christmas my husband went to Nordstrom's to buy me a nightgown and was asking the saleclerk to help him with the size. She asked him if his wife was "busty" My husband said he was completely flummoxed. He told her "well, she has some!" I am, of course, glad he noticed that much.

He's forgetting sizes go down by twos.

I just wish the guy wouldn't shill so hard for the frankenfoods. When you click on that link to his piece about his wife, he said she lost her weight eating Dreamfields pasta, Russell Stover candy, brand-name brownies, and all of the rest of it. With links to all of these websites. This guy must be getting kickbacks up the wazoo at his website.

One dress size is a stone.
Anyway I went on Atkins from South Beach to break a long weight loss stall and was surprised by the sudden health benefits, I got rid of my: high BP, high cholesterol and TG, mood swings, acid reflux disease, chronic backaches, joint aches, afternoon fatigue, high FBS and skin problems.

Its very interesting to know that tidbit of information though. I guess ill be shopping at Target instead of Wal*Mart.

I think Jimmy Moore is trying to make a living out of his website. He is doing the same as many others are doing. He has an affiliate relationship with Kimkins and many of the low carb food vendors.
Whenever you click on the hypertext name of any of these companies at his site then make a purchase there, Jimmy Moore gets a percentage amount of your total purchase. He also sells advertisement space to them.
So, telling people that he and his wife like these products or telling them that Kimkins is great could be for the purpose of boosting his profit.
Although I don't blame him for that, I think that we should be careful.

In all fairness, women's sizes are screwy and I don't know very many men who would realize that our sizes go down by "2's" rather than 1 number = 1 size.
Also, there's no way to say that this-many-pounds-lost = this many sizes. Too many variables to make that sort of generalization. Otherwise every woman who weighs 120 lbs would be the same size and we all know that's not true! Is this 120-lb woman 5'0" tall or 5'8"? She may be a size 8 or a size 2 or anywhere in between based on height, muscle mass, weight distribution, etc.

I am down from 10 to a size 7/8 in jr. miss. I don't like to wear women's clothes. Before, a 10 was too tight on me, so maybe I might even have been in a size bigger.

Darn it! I feel cheated ;) . Beside loosing 25 lbs, I only got relief from heart burn, bad blood lipid profiles, and joint stiffness. Of course I don't really know what TG, and FBS is.

So she lost 3 dress sizes in only 13 pounds. Haven't we all lost inches without losing weight on the scale? I hate sounding like I support Jimmy because I really don't like the guy. I hate that his page takes a tad longer to load because of all of the ads he has on there.

So it's been awhile since I've been there, but at 5'4", those thirteen pounds (from 157 to 144) would take me from a 13 to a 7.

Some high-end specialty shops do carry sizes in single digit increments. My previous girlfriend was a size 1. Zeros were too small, twos were too big, dresses were too expensive.

FYI- Odd number sizes, 1-13 are considered for juniors, teenage type sizes. Even number sizes, 0-14...are considered for a missy age sized person....over 25 yrs old and up to old like me. ;)
I was in the ladies clothing business for 25 yrs and do have technical knowledge of these things.
As we age, even if our weight is the same and normal, our bodies do shift and our rise does lengthen.....so a size 11 that I used to wear now cuts me in the rise where it did not 20 yrs ago when I was the same weight.

Yes. This explains why I can't wear "junior" sizes even though I now weigh the same as I did when I was 17-18. :agree:
There also aren't many stores that "mix" the odd/even size types, because it's standard that odds are for juniors and evens are for miss/women sizes.
