I have been doing a lean meat/egg fast thing for 4 days. I have lost 7 pounds, believe I am in full ketosis for the first time on probably a year ...or more and feel good. I am drinkning a good amount of water (dry mouth), and I am not hungry at all. I ate a pork chop for breakfast (3-4 ounces) and eventhough I warmed a chicken breast, I simply couldn't eat it. Even at the height of my weight loss with Atkins the first time around, I was still a little hungry from time to time.

Anyway, I know some people say you should eat 1 gram of protein for every 2 pounds you weigh....for me that would be 165ish. I know it seems like a lot but I am crushing that number easily.

Food Yesterday:

4 turkey sausage links
2 ground sirloin burgers (90% lean)
2 grilled pork chops (2-3 ounces each)
1 more burger (90% lean)
2 hard boiled eggs.

I am kinda doing Kimkins but as I mentioned in a different post, I am using oils for marinades and a small amount of mayo on my burgers/hard boiled eggs.

If I am consuming 1,900 calories a day and about 85% are from protein that means I am consuming over 320g of protein and eventhough I lifting weights and exercising, I am concerned about the protein. Of course, my BM's are kinda weird.....sorry for the graphic details but they are oily and kind of dark :o .

I am going to include induction level veggies tomorrow but that will probably only reduce protein down to about 275 at the most. A lot of medical websites that are pro low-fat and anti-protein say you should keep your protein to 70-90g per day...any thoughts?

I think if you were a huge ,muscular bodybuilder, strength athlete..then you would have to eat that much protein to maintain muscle mass..

IF I WERE YOU, I'd take in 1 gram per LEAN bodyweight..and up the fat a little.

can you have someone check your bodyfat%? someone who knows what the heck they are doing?

I guess is there any concern I should have for a toxic level of protein consumption????

You might look at Harvard School of Public Health protein info page (http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/protein.html).

A UConn press release of a study of athletes says high protein can result in more concentrated urine (so the dry mouth may mean you need to drink more water): UConn dehydration/protein (http://advance.uconn.edu/2002/020429/02042904.htm).

But there doesn't seem to be a lot a clean research on it. You may be our guinea pig?

Are you using a food journal like My Plan or Fitday? Guestimating amounts from your food list of yesterday, Fitday looks like: 65% fat / 33% protein / 3% carb over 2214 calories, and 177 grams protein.

I can't see how you'd get to 85% protein over 1900 calories with that much coming from animal sources, since there's so much fat. Maybe with a lower-fat protein sources, like chicken/turkey/fish?

If you're losing well and feeling well -- ?

Cheers--
