I'm hypothyroid again and just increased my meds...
Wow, my personality changes so much. When I'm hypothyroid I'm the most relaxed, easy going person. Nothing ruffles me. I have nearly infinite patience. I'm a bit spacey, forget things. I tend to be quiet, don't talk a whole lot. I want to cocoon.
Increase my meds...
Suddenly I'm impatient with a lot of things. Traffic jams irritate me. I don't brook any nonsense. I can't stand commercials on TV. TV is suddenly extremely boring (maybe it's just the shows... why is everything a reality show these days? God, they're getting obnoxious.) I talk a lot more.
Anyone else find their thyroid meds change their entire personality?

Actually I think it's the T3 in my meds that make me cranky and irritable. When I just take T4 my disposition stays sunny and warm.

I went from being clinically depressed to euphoric within 2-3 days of starting Armour. Euphoria subsided after a week, but my mood definitely became more stable, no more depression and mood swings. My memory improved too. The biggest surprise was a change (to the better) in my self-esteem and assertiveness.

Yeah I think self-esteem and assertiveness also improve with me. But I don't get depressed with my hypo... just very , very mellow.

I am slower, lazier, just-don't-care when my thyroid meds are too low. I find it hard to be as interested in anything. I would go so far as to say I feel somewhat depressed.
But once my meds have me adjusted, I feel happy, smiley, interested in everything, and I can accomplish things. To me, thyroid pills are sort of a wonder drug.
I have gone off of them sometimes because I don't like any meds and don't want to become dependent upon them...alas, I have learned the hard way. There are things worse than being dependent upon a little pill every morning. I now take them faithfully, mostly because of the personality difference!

Me too...
I have to take my thyroid meds or else! It is what it is. However, I hate the fact that my thyroid needs fluctuate and I may be over/under medicated and need to be aware of that. It's hard to tell since it could be so many different things.
Recently, after several years of being stable, I because over-medicated. In other words, I was hyper, instead of hypo, thyroid.
During this brief period, before I went to the doctor and found out I was hyperthyroid . Before I got the results of my test, I got really upset at work and told off a co-worker. Geez, I wish this wasn't the case, I'm usually so laid back. Now I have this incident to live down.
Just wanted to say this to let others know that it could be your thyroid causing you problems.

I had Graves disease which was Perma-hyper. My temper was horrible! It's the only time I ever threw anything in anger. I think it was a clock I threw across the room.
Explain to your co-worker about your thyroid condition and apologize. That should go a long ways to repairing the damage.

Geez I know - I wish I could keep things level. Now after a couple of weeks on the lower dose I find myself sleeping in. I'm usually a - get up at the crack of dawn type - and this morning I slept until 9:45 am. I thought my doc lowered my meds too much and I'm thinking I don't want to wait and experience the full set of symptoms.
I need a new doctor.

This is an interesting topic and the reason I posted what I did about bipolarism on another thread...please take a look at it and let me know what you think...is everyone scared of this topic?
evenik what you describe are classic bipolar characteristics...
has anyone had experience getting therapy for both at the same time?
thanks
Kellie
