Hello all
Just wanted to give some info on me and why I am here. I weigh in at around 475 pounds. I am 6 foot 4. On May 28 I decided enough was enough. I can't do my current job effectively with my weight. I had to leave a fire department I was on because I couldn't do fire academy. I decided to change my eating habits for me and for no particular reason except to be healthier.

In the past I have done it for other reasons but now, it's all about me and it's working this time. It will work for you too. Look here for motivation and help. Good luck.

Hi EMS! and welcome to TDC and the forum! Congrats on making the life changing decision to lose weight. there's wonderful support here and lots of tools and tons of information, too.
since you're doing your own plan (sort of) you may want to check out MY PLAN because you can keep track of what you eat and see it correlating with your weightloss. That way you can tweak your plan to optimize your success and easily see what's causing a stall or a slow down. There's also lots of places for you to post various stats there. I love MY PLAN, can you tell?? LOL
I'm glad you're here. I wish you every success in your journey.

Good for you on making a decision to improve your life. And welcome to our corner of the world. The folks here are great, so if you have any questions or concerns, please post them.
When you have a long journey, it's really helpful to make friends who can relate to where you've been and where you are going! In my opinion, the key to success is reading the forum every day. Good luck!

Welcome aboard. Stay with this message board and we'll support you on your way to good health. I would recommend going to your family doctor and getting a full physical w/blood work. Find out how far out of whack your machine is running. Use your blood work results to help monitor your progress. Read all you can. There are lots of good weight loss books out there. Check your library. Stay with your program and the weight will go.

I too would like to welcome you to this wonderful place. There are so many who have lost a lot and are available to help others. If you could start a journal that would also be good. I know mine is not too up to date but there is a great support group here.
Just take one day at a time.

Not much to add to the good advice above except welcome.
I think of this process as a three-legged stool:
water and food,
exercise,
support.
One of these goes, and you go down sooner or later. So grab hold and hang on tight--
This place can give you the support to save your job and your life.
