I don’t do very many posts on this board, I consider myself relatively novice at low carbing and am very interested in listening to hear what the pros have to say on this site. I use this message board every day for help by reading what everyone else is doing, what kind of success they are having and the great information you all share. What a tremendous value this is. I am so glad I found you all. I believe the TDC is where I most belong. I can relate to so many of you.
I understand we are all different so what I do is not what everyone else will have success with and I am in no way a doctor or good at advice but I hope I can inspire some of you to keep on losing weight or maintaining by sharing my latest success.
I just got back from the doctors office. This is my first follow-up blood work since I’ve become a low – carber.
Since January 18, 2007 when I began my new woe, the following has happened
January 2007 to June 4, 2007
Weight: 330 lbs to 265lbs.
FBG: 135 to 80
Total Cholestrol: 184 to 156
LDL: 110 to 98
HDL: 42 to 41
Triglycerides: 162 to 84
This was all done by 30 max carbs per day, and no medication. I was so pleased to see things turning around for me. I thank my wife #1, the Dr’s Eades who wrote “Protein Power”, my Psychologist, my family doctor, and this board. I just need to keep trucking.
Life has become so much better in little subtle ways. First off - all my clothes fit or are too baggy. I wake up in the morning mostly ready to go. Before I was really having a time getting to work. I sleep a lot better and don’t snore as loud according to the family. I can sit on the hopper without needing three hand holds on each side of me to lower myself. I don’t rub my belly on the table in restaurant booths anymore, I have a good 8 inches of clearance now. I can bend over and pick up something with relative ease. I don’t feel like I am ready to have the big one any time now. I can climb stairs with relative ease. I don’t take antacid tablets anymore. I no longer have hemorrhoids or diarrhea. These were daily afflictions. In December my dental hygientist asked me if I had been checked for diabetes. She said my gums were bleeding everywhere. She explained another patient of hers had same problem and was diagnosed with diabetes. I just saw her again last month, no more bleeding, she was very impressed, I didn’t discuss new WOE with her, but wanted to. If your thinking like I was... telling yourself your doomed and there is no way to recover from such a large weight number, don’t think that way. I hope if you are just starting your return to a lower weight this helps.
Oh well thanks again everyone.

Wow wtg lenjoe :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
I was so interested to hear about your bleeding gums. The number of things diabetes affects constantly surprises me. My husband is a food-controlled diabetic. His numbers have definitely improved too.

Tim- I think it's wonderful that this WOE has brought so many health benefits to you. So often we focus just on the weight loss, but there are other substantial reasons to low carb! I just know you'll make it to your goal and I hope you become a more frequent poster and share your experiences with others. You are an inspiration! Keep up the good work!

Thank you for sharing the nitty-gritty details that really do make up the daily horror of living with morbid obesity, and congrats on the tremendous job you are doing turning it around. I bet your doctor was almost as happy as you were to see the bloodwork results.

Way-to-go!
I love hearing about people doing well! And you certainly are. Keep at it, all those great things that are happening? Well, they are just the start, wait until you can do things you thought you'd never be able to like jog up a flight of stairs and squat down to pet a dog without problems.

Thanks to everyone for the great compliments and comments. I hope I didn't make it sound like this is so easy. It is definitely not. My battle is a long way from being over.
Reading this board gives me lots of thoughts, ideas and information that motivate me. By sticking with the PP plan.... I like to think of it as taking a life saving medicine every day. I have improved physically and mentally. And if I don't stick to this medicine my body will start failing again.
Next winter I plan on fitting behind the scorer's table for my kid's middle school basketball team. I've done the scorebook the last 3 years sitting off to the side of the scoring table doing the scorebook. What a pain. Next month we are taking an airplane for vacation. I hope not to have a problem with the seat belt fitting.
I never thought I could do what I'm doing now. I have been chronically over 300 lbs. for at least 8 years. I had given up. I will be happy where ever I plateau. Who knows where I'll land, but I plan on eating LC for a long, long time.

lenjoe,
your kids are going to be so proud of you for your accomplishments, and so will we--so are we.
The airplane seat belt is going to fit you next month--at the rate you are going, you won't settle for anything less.
You have stepped back from the grave, and the more you keep taking your daily does of PP, the further back you will move.
We know that sometimes it isn't easy--but you're making it look possible, and that helps others as well as yourself. KUTGW!

Awesome! Your post did me a lot of good to read. I am worried about my bloodwork and am returning to the doc in about four weeks. I really hope I have results similar to yous.

Congrats Tim!
I can totally relate especially to the table clearance comment. How self-concious I always felt everytime I had to squeeze into a booth at a restaurant wondering if my tummy would clear or if I'd be lucky enough to at least have an inch or two to slide in and eat somewhat comfortably. I was fortunate enough now that I have lost 50 lbs myself to be able to clear that table with no problems and like you had 8 or more inches to spare. What a wonderful feeling it was not to feel so self-concious about fitting into that booth. On top of that I went to the movie theatre yesterday and had no problems plopping myself into the seat comfortable. Thank you sweet Jesus!
Well, I'm not trying to rush it, but I'm hoping to be able to go to the amusement parks in the middle of Summer and not have to worry about the bar not being able to go all the way down or if my hips will fit in the rides. What a sigh of relief that will be.
