I stand at 5ft 6in and I've been trying to figure out if dropping down to 135 might be too much.
My mom said that I should pick a weight that I can easily fluctuate 5-10lbs with. But I don't know about that.
What do you guys think?

This is a link to a weight chart. It'll show you a weight range for your height...then you decide if you are a small, medium or large frame.
IMO....from what I've seen of your pictures, you don't really need to lose that much weight at all....but you are also still in your twenties...so a good 140-145 sounds right to me.
I think its wise of you to figure this out now  ...
I never knew what weight was good for me so I was always dieting. No matter what weight I was, it wasn't going to be good enough for those around me. NOW>>>I did it for me and only me. I'm the same weight now that I was when I was 20, only I never knew that it was the right weight for me. Who Knew?

I was puzzling over this myself recently! I second Judy's suggestion to consult the www.halls.md ideal/healthy weight charts. I went however with a much less exact measure, combining BMI "healthy" range with the American Council on Exercise's body fat percentage for "fitness":
BMI = 18.5 to 24.9 ; for 5'3.5"=> 106 to 143 lbs (avg 124.5) ; American Council on Exercise uses b.f.%: Fitness level = 21-24% => avg 22.5%
(Lange Caliper test, early May) b.f.% = 27.7 wt 152.8 ; lbs fat = 42.3 ; lbs lean = 110.5
So my goal weight is 132; ideal is 124.5. I realize BMI is a very iffy standard though.
exrx.net also has target wt/body composition calculators.
Cheers--

I should probably look at those charts, too. When I chose my goal weight, I just picked the last weight at which I felt healthy, pretty, energetic, and could fit into all my favorite clothes. For me, that's 135 (but at 5'3", I'm a good bit shorter than you!)

HAHA VPeach... I just took a look at your pictures. I love how you stand in such a confident sexy pose in every shot :-D ! Speaking as a guy, I don't think you have too much further to go. You don't want to end up with that skinny anorexic look. Keep up the good work and you'll be at your target soon!
BTW, do you workout at all? I'd say at some point, just toning up would be more beneficial than trying to lose weight. Geez... I hope that didn't come out sounding wrong. I think you're doing awesome.

don't worry iceman. I'm not going to go cower in a corner and eat a lb of cookie dough just for the last comment.
I actually haven't had a consistent workout since I moved here from Houston. The gym is a 30min drive and I do much better in a gym setting then a at home workout. (I have many many workout dvds)
We are moving back to Houston in July so I'll be working out again..thank the lord!

I'm doing it by BMI. I'm aiming for the middle of the healthy range. I'm 5'6" as well and so have targeted 135 as my goal weight.
But to be honest, I'm more interested in my size and muscle tone than my weight.

You look really good to me, VPeach!
I think many women would kill for your body - don't get too concerned over the "number" - just what feels good!

FWIW, here are a couple other calculators I often recommend.
http://www.dietitian.com/ibw/ibw.html
http://www.thecolumn.org/ideal-weight-chart.asp
I like the first one as an overall Q&A process and I like the second one because of it's instructions for determining frame size. (The finger wrap around the wrist is seriously flawed!)
I also believe your body will let you know when it's done losing.
And remember the less you weigh the fewer calories you need to support that body weight. So if you are keeping caloric intake and overall activity levels relatively stable, you will hit a stasis point simply by losing weight to the level of your average caloric expenditure due to body size and activity level. Some people simply call this "maintenance mode". ;) Going further typically requires changing caloric intake down or caloric expenditure up or both!

After looking over all the charts and links you guys have so kindly provided, I think my goal weight might be a little high. I see a lot of people three or four inches taller than me with the same goal, too.
I think I'm going to drop it down another 5 pounds to 130. I hate to do it, though. It's painful to think of that gap between my current weight and my goal growing instead of getting smaller!

I'm going to keep my goal weight as it is for the time being, but expect that I will eventually drop it down to 150, which apparently is my 'ideal' weight.
Interestingly, my BMI is 25, which is within the 'healthy' range.

When I was in the best shape of my life-lowest body fat and fittest-I weighed 147 lbs at 5'4". Most of my adult life, I hovered between 115 and 125, until I hit my late 30s. I'm definitely a mesomorph with a small to medium frame. I think when a woman gets into her 40s, or is perimenopausal or post-menopause, the scale number and body fat percentage means less than strength, flexibility, and overall fitness. Your body changes as you age, and I think a re-distribution of fat happens. I'd love to weigh 130 again, but right now I'd be happy at 150.
