Before I started South Beach I was addicted to Starbucks. I used to get a grande iced skim caramel macchiato 4 to 5 times a week, sometimes more... Yes, I know, bad.
Anyway, is there anything I can get now that I'm on South Beach other than regular old coffee? Could I order a tall iced sugar-free, skim vanilla latte? I've really been craving something lately...

Holly,
That is exactly what I order from Starbucks. A Tall non-fat sugar free vanilla ice latte. Mmmm. I believe these are quite safe. no fat sugar free. They better be!!! I'm curious for other feedback.

Thanks! You've made my day!
One more question, though. Should I count it as my sweet treat for the day? or could I have strawberries after dinner, too?

You should count it as part of your dairy total for the day. Strawberries are not a sweet treat but are a fruit. See the food lists for what comprises a sweet treat.
So have your strawberries for dinner and count that to your fruit totals for the day, milk from the latte as your dairy .....and then you can still have your sweet treat!!

I love my lattes! I usually get a 16oz fat free, 1 splenda wet cappuccino with a dash of cinnamon.
Since I work at the cafe in our store I can make it myself and measure out the milk. I measure out 1 cup, but when I steam and froth it up..it can only fit in a 16oz cup.

ICED COFFEE
or better yet, ICED DECAF AMERICANO
Great thing about Starbucks around here, as well as some Caribou Coffee, Seattle's best, etc. - they have HEAVY CREAM behind the counter - they will gladly pour in a shot if you ask them.
Iced coffee with heavy cream - heck, leave the Splenda out - who needs it!

We don't use heavy cream on SBD. We can use fat free half n half, though. It is easy to make your favorite coffee drink guilt free. Most flavored syrup shots come in SF choices. And you can use 1% or skim milk too. The possibilities are endless. I had a nonfat sugar free mocha iced latte yesterday. It was yummy!

I always order an iced venti blended latte with sweet n low. Blended means they mix whole and skim milk to make lowfat. I just can't take the straight skim milk. I've been losing weight for 10 months drinking this so I figure it must be ok, as long as you count it as part of your dairy.

Yes, it is legal for phase I...but you need to keep in mind that the milk used needs to be part of your 2 cup dairy daily total.

This is a good thread. Now I don't usually go to starbucks but I'm meeting a friend for coffee this weekend and it's good to see what choices I have.

I'm not a Starbucks regular so someone else can probably answer this better than I.
I seem to recall something about Starbucks using a mix in one of their frozen drinks and that mix contained sugar even though it looked like milk powder. It's probably not at all what you are looking at ordering but I wanted to bring it up in case someone knows what should be avoided?

It's the frapucinno (sp?). Just asking for it with skim milk isn't good enough, the mix has sugar in it.
I had a skim milk iced latte today just because you were talking about them and I really liked it. I took some splenda but didn't find it needed sweetening. I have nothing against artificial sweeteners, I have a Diet Coke daily but I do try to keep them to a minimum.

OK. So I tried an iced, sugar-free, non-fat vanilla latte the other day and it tasted HORRIBLE... It's that sugar-free syrup, just has a really strange taste.
Anyway the next time I went to Starbucks the barista suggested I just get half the number of (regular) syrup pumps to cut down on the sugar, but not sacrifice the taste. And it was really good! Now I'll sometimes treat myself to a non-fat vanilla latte with half the number of syrup pumps... It brings out the expresso flavor. Yes, I know it's going to have some carbs, but like I said, it's a treat (maybe 2 times a month)....

Well, they have half and half, too!! :yum:
South Beach doesn't advocate drinking all those sugary concoctions Sbux sells, I hope? Most of their drinks don't even have any coffee in them!

Nope...SBD does not advocate drinking sugary drink at all!! :nono:
When I go to Starbucks. I get a regular cup of coffee and use a bit of H&H and a splenda...it works for me but I'm in maintenance so I can do things like that. People just starting out need to use reduced fat milk on SBD.

I just saw this thread and the post about sugar in the fraps even if you ask for sf. I'll bet that's true and it explains alot......
My DH is diabetic and very sensitive to refined sugar (headaches and body aches). Everytime he's ordered a decaf sf frap at Starbuck's he's gotten a typical bad sugar reaction! He gave up after a couple of tries and now sticks with a sf latte instead.

The carb count is after the fiber was subtracted.
