Lucky me- getting the wild card of thyroid disease.
I saw a new endo who was utterly fantastic and that was his guess. I had that written in my notes and he appluaded my knowledge.
So, that's me, one foot in both ponds. Any insight into the treatment or the outcome of this area of thyroid dysfunction would be appreciated. I think that I will opt for the the R-131 if things don't shape up for me by the end of the summer. he rold me that he will not allow me to pack on my weight for this procedure. I trust him-he is the only doctor who listened and din't offer Prozac. He said that my hypo symptoms are very real.

I found out you can have hashi's and grave's at the same time. :p
If you can do anything to prevent it, don't have RAI done. I really, really regret it now. If I'd known then what I know now about my food sensitivities and autoimmune diseases, I would have taken the thyroid suppression therapy and waited it out.

I eat low carb, Nancy and I don't feel anything. I ONLY have hypo symptoms, NEVER had hyperT symptoms. So, the test results threw my primary who said(4.5 years ago) that it was hyper-NOT Graves. I don't know.

Why would they be discussing RAI if it isn't graves? That doesn't make sense to me.

Because I am hyper and hypo. I think that as an alternative to waiting for the bugger to just die, he conceeded that it is a possibilty for me to opt for.

My mother just got diagnosed with the same thing. She got told by her endo that it is perfectly treatable but obviously most people are never diagnosed! You are lucky that you have been diagnosedbecause you can get some kind of treatment for the condition. I am assuming your treatment will be T3 or T4 in a massive dose like my mum is on.
If you type in hashimoto's into google you'll find a lot of info on it.

Here's an article about it: http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/graves_disease/71806
Have you thought of trying a gluten-free diet to try to get into remissions?

Try googling Hashitoxicosis gluten

I agree with Nancy, do not have RAI.
Hashi patients can swing between hypo and hyper in the beginning of the desease. They go hyper for short period of time, then hypo. As thyroid tissue being destroyed they go more and more hypo.
You said that you do not have any symptoms of hyperthyroidism. Then I wonder why your doctor wants you to get RAI. If it is Hashi, your thyroid will be destroyed on its own eventually.
Your PCP told you that you are hyper sometime ago. If only TSH was checked there is a high probability that it was a hyper swing of Hashi and you do not need RAI. Get all thyroid antibodies checked: thyroglobulin, microsomal and TSI.
Another thing about having RAI is that it increases your risk for getting thyroid cancer. Do not rush into this decision.

I have to say that when you see weight loss pictures like the one's that Nancy LC put up, it's very inspiring. It's like you lost weight and suddenly became really pretty at the same time.
Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Update: I just got labs back from when I was on a low cytomel(25 mcgs) and levoxyl(5 mcgs) dose:
TSH .39 (0.3-3.3)
FT4 1.2 (.7-2.0)
I was in Jan on the same doseage
TSH: .01
FT4 1.5
Crazy, huh?
