 I really thought I had my carb counts down so well but was confused as to why I haven't been losing. Well............
I just found out when I went to a new web site, Fitday, that counted all my carbs I had been taking in. I had 34 yesterday and thought that I was under 20. I put in everything that I had eaten, spices, and all and realized that they are hiding in just about everything that I am consuming! I was so surprised to find this out but now I'm being very careful with everything that goes in my mouth. I am going to do this. Has anyone else been through this? It's a new day and I will do this. Thanks for letting me vent. :p

LOL! I think it's probably the way that everyone first learned how to count carbs.
When you're using fitday, make sure that you are changing the defaults for quantity. Some people don't realize this when they first start using it and their counts are all messed up.
Also, you can subtract the fiber count from the carb count to get the Effective Carbohydrate Count - that is the carbs that are actually used by your body and not passed through as fiber.
The bonus is that the higher fiber foods are generally the lowest in carbs meaning you can eat more vegetables! :D
Have a look in Low Carb Tools at the top of the page at the Carbohydrate Counter. It's really interesting to sort vegetables by the lowest carb count and see the variety there.

Boy AMEN to that!
The very first time I used FitDay, I didn't realize about the defaults and I almost passed out. It said I'd consumed over 5000 calories! Little did I realize the default for butter is a CUP...
Even now, I have to watch it. I've entered quite a few "custom foods" (most of them being recipe portions for stuff I make from scratch, like my chicken-walnut casserole), and sometimes the default just cracks me up. The one for any salad dressing (I have entries for a Greek one and a French vinaigrette) seems to be 1 LITRE. Good gods, people... a teaspoon, a tablespoon, even a cup I could sort of understand, but a LITRE!!??

I'm wondering if there's just a good book on carb counting, that seems a bit easier to me? The new adkins book has it inside the cover...Kelly

Corrine T. Netzer's "the Complete Book of Food Counts" is excellent. Over 10,000 foods, including fast food places and specific brand names. Listings are for calories, protein, fat, carbs, fiber, sodium and cholesterol. Paperback, $9.99 US / $7.99 Cdn
I do believe she also has out a book that's specifically for carbs and fiber.
