Did you know that women can gain 3 pounds of water weight over night according to an article I heard about in that magazine? I swear there are nights I can gain more than that. Has anyone else seen anything about that?

I will usually gain anywhere from 3 - 6 pounds a day but not overnight unless it is around my monthly cycle.

I thought that women (and young women) usually experience a water gain during tom. Ever since I was a young woman I have experienced 1-5 lbs gain. After tom, my weight is back to normal.

Kiki, I haven't seen the article--but it's certainly not startling news to most women.
That's why I shrug off variations on the scale. Unless a "gain" lasts for a week or more, it's not likely to be permanent fat. I chuckle at "newbies" who get hysterical over a few ounces put on overnight. The body is a big ol' water balloon that sucks up and expels water very rapidly, especially if you've got a lot of empty fat cells wanting to be filled with something.

I didn't see the article either. I thought it was funny because there are some nights I gain way more than 3 pounds. And it's gone by the middle of the next day. I an KNOW it's all water. Just thought I would see what others opinions were. And I don;t think it's really a particular age, I really think it depends on the person

Even so, if you don't disregard the water weight gained (ie. after a high-carb binge) it makes staying on track a lot easier! I think some people run into the "oh it's only water weight..." trap and maybe it is for the first day... But 50lbs. gained back later ain't all water! :)
I lose weight overnight. Without exception. I gain during the day.

Jenn123,
I wish I was like you. I agree with your thought there, pretty soon it is 50 pounds and you wonder where it came from. Once you stop and think about it you know. Thanks for putting that in black and white, it makes you stop and think about it.

I think it is relative to your bodyweight. The more you weigh, the higher those water fluctuations will be.

Never thought of it that way, that's a good thought
