Do people think that the standard tables of carbohydrate content or Glycemic Index for fruits translate directly to increases in blood glucose? Or is the relationship between type of fruit and increase in BG more complicated than that?

(I am just wondering whether to experiment with different fruits to see the effect on BG, or whether that's pointless because the carbohydrate content tells me everything).

I think that doing the experiments is always in order. And if you are lucky you will discover some things you tolerate more than others.

I notice that the ratio of carb to fibre correlates well with GI when comparing similar items (fruit to fruit). So if you don't have a GI table, the analysis label can help. You will see that, say, berries have a lower carb/fibre ratio than apples.

My understanding is that GI is the effect on blood glucose by definition. I don't know the details but I presume it runs like a GTT.

Also consider glycemic loading, the net carbs in the serving. How much nutrition do you get per gram of carb?
