Hello all,

I've been on artificial sweeteners for nearly 40 years and have been using Sugarella lately but bought some Splenda granules last week. I don't like the taste of Splenda but if it is lower in carb, I will persist until I get used to it.

In the meantime, does anybody know the carb content of Sugarella, put out by Faulding Pharmaceuticals?

Each tablet contains Saccharin 12.5mg, mineral salt (500) and vegetable gum (414). One tablet is equivalent to 1 level metric teaspoon of sugar.

I've read a couple of threads here saying that liquid sweeteners are preferred as they have no fillers, that's interesting, I have a liquid Sugarine in the pantry but I also found that too sweet, even 1 drop.

It's just occurred to me that perhaps now is the time to give them away altogether!

I've looked further and found that Equal has no carbs, so will try to get some of that.

I've not heard of Sugarella before, but based on the Ingredients you listed, I feel confident in saying that what you have there is a 0-carb tablet based on sodium-saccharin. There is an absolute minimum of filler there. The same will likely apply to the liquid sweetener you mention, Sugarine (another brand name I have not encountered). If you post the listed Ingredients, I could more certain with the Sugarine, as well.

As for the Equal brand, only a liquid or tablet form (the active sweetener is aspartame, by the way) will be zero or very low fraction carbohydrate. Packets or granular (spoon for spoon measure type) will have a filler, almost always a maltodextrin or lactose, both of which are sugars.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your trouble, Judi. Looks as though I'll be OK with Sugarella. The liquid Sugarine ingredients are Sodium Saccharin 5.9% W/V and water, with a Sodium Benzoate preservative.

You're welcome, Alaine. :D

Yes, the Sugarine looks like a fine carb-free sweetener for your use as well.
