Hi guys - I am living in the Uk, tried Atkins last year and lost 1 stone but then got bored (obviously not got my food combinations right!).

I have been overweight since I was 20 years old, I have yo-yo'd between Atkins, Weight watchers, etc looking for a solution.

I want to go back on Atkins, am so glad I've found this forum because I struggle d to find UK info last time, I need to lose some weight my DH and I are going to go through fertility treatment and obviously they are going to focus on my weight so I'd like to get some weight off quite quickly or find a life long solution that works for me. The thing about Atkins was that I loved not being hungry, on Weight watchers I'm permanently hungry and therefore grumpy.

Has anyone got any advice on where to start?? looking forward to finding some LC friends in the UK.

You could start by following this link:
http://www.atkins.com/articles/nutritional-approach
or by buying the book if you have not already got it.

I'd say plan each meal carefully. A typical day for me might be:
breakfast: bacon or black forest ham (Lidls), with 3 poached eggs
Lunch (at work). A big salad with spinach, celery, cucumber, a tomato and cold meat.
Dinner, chicken leg with low carb vegetables. Plain yogurt with sweetener and a few strawberries cut up in it.

If your DH also needs to lose weight you could throw out all carby foods too.

What sort of things were you looking for last time? Atkins is not boring. Look through this board and you'll get loads of ideas.

Good luck with the fertility treatment.

Many thanks for the quick reply!

My DH is not overweight it's just me, I have asthma as well so in the past have blamed my steriods for making me overeat! etc, etc... but I'm at the point where I have to face facts, it's been my doing to get here!! so I have to fix it.

My DH tries to be very supportive, but it's quite hard from his point of view, on e minute I'm on WW then something else! he must think here we go again

I just remembered that the last time I wasn't hungry and it was so liberating, it was also difficult to plan supermarket foods but now I've found this site I should be fine. I have a couple of atkins books so will revisit these completely in the next few days and work out some menus, at least bbq's are easy this time of year with salad & chicken/steak.

Has anyone got any favourite meals that I can copy!! to give me some inspiration, sure there's a menu board here somewhere I just have to find it!

Thanks again!

I think low carb is a great way of eating. You can have loads of meat and fresh veggies - great. You can always bung a jacket potato (done in the microwave) or some tinned new potatos on your hubbies plate if he misses them!

I don't bother much with supermarket foods - things are much better cooked fresh. Lidl's is a good supermarket if there are things like sausages that you miss. Their bradwursts are like sausages but very low carb and their salamis are excellent.

Their fullfat mayonnaise is only 0.9 carbs per 100 grams, and they have a great selection of cheeses too!

Lidl often has unusual stuff - I bought 2 Daikon radishes there yesterday (like huge white carrots). I've never seen these anywhere except in pictures and they're supposed to make great LC 'chips'. Mind you, they were labelled 'Horseradish', so not much help for the average customer! I'm thinking of going back to buy the rest of the box - I very much doubt if they'll be there again.

What a co-incidence I bought a daikon this week for the first time too!!

What did you do with yours, Elizellen? I cut up one of mine into chunks and roasted it in duck fat. Tasty enough, but not as promising as I'd hoped - non starchy veggies are so WET and INSIPID! Doh, there is nothing like a potato :(

I havent used it yet but plan to roast wedges of it on Sunday when I cook a meal for my mother who isnt a lowcarber but always enjoys what I cook for her.
Has anyone tried deepfrying them? I was thinking I might dig out my fryer and try it next week.

Also I plan using shredded daikon in a sort of coleslaw with diced celery.
