I'm on Day 2 Phase 2 and proudly down 11.5 lbs. thanks to SB. I'm in uncharted water on the scale.
I used to buy lc bagels at the local health food store in my pre-sb days. I believe they were only 2 carbs each. I remember the label was copied so many times that it was hard to read and don't know what else is in them. I miss my occasional bagel and cream cheese. Would these be any more legal than what you can get in the store? Kind of a dumb question but Sunday morning paper, fresh coffee and a bagel sounds wonderful to me.
Thanks,
Marsha

You need to forget about low carb products in general and look for a whole grain bagel. I'm a bagel person myself, NYC bagels mind you!! While I do not allow myself to eat flour daily or even weekly, I do allow myself a whole grain pumpernickel bagel once a month, just so that I do not allow myself to feel deprived of a favorite food....cuz when I do that, it can be the end of my new eating habits!! ;) if you know what I mean!!
deprivation=binging
So go the your local bagel store and see if they now make a whole grain bagel.... and enjoy!! :yum: when you are well into your phase II...not just yet!!

Thanks, Judy. I'm still new to this and kind of feeling my way and learning from all of you. I had a moment of weakness yesterday dreaming about the old WOE. Right now the apple a day has me intimidated but the scale is still showing progress.
Besides, until I get to the grocery store it doesn't really matter. Can you imagine a bagel without cream cheese? Maybe next month or the one after. :yum:

Good girl!! I know how it is at first as our minds tend to dwell in what we are not going to eat any longer. It happened to me a lot and what I did do for my mind was to force it to think of the allowed food lists and then think of all the food that I can have now.
The chatter in our minds can be the reason that many fall off the wagon as they give into it easily when they don't have to. I call this managing our internal dialogue. Some call it taming the inner beast!! whichever, it is a good tool to help you along.
Another food that has been an issue for me is pasta as it truly is a favorite of mine. I was in phase II for 1 1/2 yrs, a very long time. I would never have made it to the end if I had not found a way to eat my favorite food. I do not enjoy whole wheat pasta and wheat is a problem for me anyway. So what I do is allow myself to have a 2 oz portion of Dreamfields Pasta once a month, still now in maintenance.
We each need to find foods that work for us and that fit the parameters of the plan. The dreamfields is the only "low carb" product that I buy. Its technically not a SBD food but I allow it for myself.
I'd put that bagel on hold until you've knocked off at least 20 lbs total. When you do have it, please try to reduced fat cream cheese with it and scoop out the middle of the bagel.
Your doing great Marsha!!

I didn't realize that there was a difference between the ww/wg pasta available in the grocery stores and Dreamfields. I saw the sign at our local health food store for Dreamfields but haven't looked into it. Do you have any idea what the difference is? I'm like you - I dearly love my pasta.
My mini-goal is 20 pounds by 6/1 - that means 8 more to go. Phase 2 will take some getting used to but we'll muddle through. There are too many choices that sound :yum: and it's hard to keep a lid on that. Your right - it's just clutter.
Thanks for the input and encouragement.

whole wheat is a whole grain pasta....Dreamfields uses refined semolina flour and coats it with a starch blocker and adds in extra fiber. Its not a whole grain pasta at all but it tatses like the real deal and thats what I need. ;)
I had to learn all this stuff when I first started too....its good to learn about all this as it will help us learn to eat healthier in the long run.

I Have eaten the barilla plus pasta and find it to be very close to real pasta not quite as close in taste as dreamfields but still not bad. I don't bother with it now but thought about it do you think that is ok?

If you want to be true to the SBD way, you'll eat whole wheat pasta.
IMO, I think that its too early in your weight loss to be eating semolina flour pasta, Dreamfields or Barilla. Its a sliippery slope when it comes to highly processed flour....be cautious and watch portions!! 2 ozs dry weight is a portion.
I rarely eat any pasta even now(maybe once a month) as I know how easy it is to go off the deep end with a food that is so highly processed.
