Is anyone using a diet pill as a companion to your LC diet? If so, how do you feel its been working for you ? (like the carb blockers, or ephedrine, or hoodia)
I have some Hoodia pills, but I havent taken them yet..still contemplating..

I was told not to take any diet pills at all while low carbing.... a lot of diet contains plenty of caffiene which is not good at all. I read on webmd that there wasn't enough studies done on hoodia to prove that it actually causes weight loss. Its suppose to trick your body into thinking your full.... take them and let me know how they work for you.

Carb blockers only block carbs, which you're not supposed to be eating on a LC diet anyway.
Ephedrine speeds you up. OK if you like feeling that way. I don't.
Not sure about hoodia. I get a fair amount of appetite suppressant from the way I eat and I don't see a need to muck about with that further.
It all depends on where you want to spend your money, I think. I prefer to load up on the supplements that have demonstrable benefits to my health, rather than the ones that con my body into thinking something is true that is actually not true.

Hoodia just doesn't work, IMHO. At least, not from any source I tried.

i did a lot of searching on consumer report type sites before i tried one.... lipo-6 was up there in like the top 3. i bought it. and about the time i started using it, i started eating LC.
so honestly i have NO idea if it was helpful or not. i have a feeling that cutting the carbs down to a minimum was the most effective, because when i quit taking the lipo-6, i still kept losing weight.
i would like to try the carb blockers though, just for special occasions like if my hubby takes me out to eat, or if we eat at someone else's house that doesn't know what LC is.

Carb blockers are not a good thing to take..I don't like the blocking of any enzyme..it is not a natural process and as CS Carver says, we are all low carbing so that should not even be an issue.
ephedra when taken correctly does supress appetite and does seem to help the body burn fat..I like a specific stack though and dosage.
Yohimbe seems to work well with women ,but I have seen better results with the injectable form..I think it's called Yobine.

if i'm not mistaken, ephedra has been banned in the U.S. hasn't it?

Ephedra has been banned in most states, but the evidence behind the ban is very flimsy. If you don't have high blood pressure or a heart problem, it's safer than most of the obesity medications.
I tried Lipo-6 and I hated it. It made me feel so depressed I couldn't be bothered working out, and just wanted to watch Oprah and eat.
Xenical is about to become an over the counter medication, but it's a disaster for LC-ers. It works by blocking fat absorbtion, so it's completely imcompatible with low carb, and it tends to result in the body not getting enough fat-soluble vitamins. It also results in oily stools and sometimes involuntary "slippage". Yes, that means what you think. Ugh.

Actually, Dr. Eades has an interesting proposal for Xenical when it becomes available. However... he recommends doing over a weekend when you don't have to go anywhere. :)

I take Phentermine, but it's a prescription appetite suppressant. As long as you don't have an existing health problem, such as high blood pressure or heart issues, it's safe for short-term use (3-4 months).
I'm having great luck with it since my metabolism was shot down recently due to a year on antidepressants, which I was luckily able to go off of w/o any problems. It doesn't block anything, just supresses the appetite and speeds up metabolism.
Even though it's by prescription, it's actually cheaper than most of the over-the-counter crap and is safer than many of them, too. I pay $24/month without insurance (since insurance usually won't cover it). However, you have to make sure you get Phentermine - which is generic. Name brands can be upwards of $100/month! Yikes.
I tried Hoodia and Green Tea diet pills and neither did anything. The only time I had luck on anything over-the-counter is when they used to contain less-than-desirable ingredients...

LauraLc,
With all due respect, what undesirable ingredients do you speak of?
Phentermine is part of the stack Phen-fen that killed people and caused permanent heart damage for others. Yes it was the combination of both, but Phen had its role in these deaths.
Hardly safe IMO..
I'm sure Phen is alot stronger than Ephedra and also lot more dangerous
