I started March 20th, eating nothing but beef and eggs.
On March 29th, my Ketostix results had reached "heavy" (purple). That same night I slipped, eating 6 small slices of cheesecake a friend brought over (I told him not to), and the next day my neighbor showed up with a six-pac of Bud Light. He insisted I drink with him..."It won't hurt your diet", he said.
Anyway, since those 2 days I have been great. Only protein.
But the ketostix results are dissapointing...here it is almost 2 weeks later and I'm still showing a trace on the ketostix.
Why is this? :q:
I gotta get back in that heavy purple again!

Eating beef and eggs only is not the Atkins diet and neither is all protein. Too much protein can be converted to glucose. Fat is much more ketosis producing than protein. Atkins is high fat and moderate protein. And veggies. Actually, a trace is all the stix need to read. How purple they turn doesn't mean that you are burning more fat.

Only beef and eggs??? This isn't the Atkins diet, and it's what gives the Atkins diet a bad name. Your profile says you've read the book, too. So why the beef and eggs only? :)
I can't help you with the ketostix question. I get back to dark purple within a couple of days of a deviation from my plan. But my diet is high in fat and moderate in protein and I do eat some veggies with fat every day.
Good luck!

The others have touched on the 'beef and eggs only' bit, so I wont nag you about the allowed foods options, but I wanted to touch on the point you raised about friends sabotaging your eating plan.
Just because your friend brought you cheesecake was no reason to eat it - even one slice (let alone six) could have been turned down by you particularly as you had already told him you werent allowing yourself to eat food off your plan.
As to the 'it wont hurt your diet' in regards to the beer - I dont know of ANY diet that included drinking beer!! Again just because a friend wants you to join him in any activity is no reason to agree if it is against what you have decided to do.
Dr Atkins told us to recruit our friends into our support team and ask them not to lead us astray. Maybe you need to work out strategies for turning their offers of inappropriate food/drink down if you want to be successful in would Atkins journey?

But have you lost any weight in these two weeks? That, to me, is far, far more important than the colour of a bit of plastic. ;)

Ketostix only show deep purple if you dont drink enough water and dont do much exercise. It just means that the ketones are very concetrated in you're pee - it doesnt mean you're losing more weight or that you're more in ketosis. You either burn fat or glucose, any ammount of ketones suggests that you're burning fat and thats all that matters.
The only time mine have ever been deep purple is first thing in the morning and I've lost weight no probs.
As for the content of your diet, well it aint Atkins, but if you feel ok, then fine, but if you cheat then it isnt gonna work and if you find your diet too restricting, then you're more likely to cheat in my opinion.
Ask yourself this next time you're faced with temptation "do you want cheesecake and bud more than you want to lose weight???"

Well, except for the lecture on it being my fault I ate the cheesecake and drank the beer, I'm sorry you wasted your time, but I already knew all that. Just as I know it's MY fault if I choose to eat cheesecake or drink beer.
Yes, I did read the Atkins Diet book. But I think it was like 20-25 years ago. And I picked up a used copy of his latest a couple of years back. They're both out in the garage with 3,000 other books. What places on this website tell the secrets I seem to have missed?
What I remember is HIGH PREOTEIN, little to no carbs...steak and eggs seemed to fit the bill. But to tell you the truth, I would MUCH RATHER eat pork steaks...lots of fat in them babies...I just love pork steak (and ribs).

i don't think anyone's looked at their response and thinks they've wasted their time on you. if that was the case, they wouldn't have responded in the first place. the good part is that you recognize what led to the cheat... you're ahead of the game there, because a lot of people come in here not understanding that.

first thing i suggest is to go dig out that book! and hey, you might find long-lost favorites while you're at it!
there is no page on this, or any other, website that will give you all the information that's in the book. the atkins website only offers the cliff's notes version, and this board is for discussion and support for the information in the book. that's why a lot of us stress how important it is to have and read it, even if all you're doing is brushing up.
What I remember is HIGH PREOTEIN, little to no carbs...steak and eggs seemed to fit the bill. But to tell you the truth, I would MUCH RATHER eat pork steaks...lots of fat in them babies...I just love pork steak (and ribs).
low-carb isn't really high-protein. in fact, too much protein can work against you. low-carb is actually high-fat, and for some people, the higher the better. unfortunately for me, i seem to do better keeping my fat and protein percentages almost even, or within about 15-20 percentage points of each other. that's just me.
and hey... 2lbs is 2lbs! :)

You're right, 2 pounds is still 2 pounds. I'm thankful for that.
I remember being in Weight Watchers back in the 70's.
I remember losing 10 pounds in a week! No big deal...
But my diet wasn't Weight Watchers...all I generally ate was canned tuna...it was brutal, but the weight fell off.
*sigh*, I guess I'll have to go out to my garage and find those two Atkin's books, 'eh?

Gymshoes,
I just want to encourage you to stick with your woe and use what has been said here to expand your eating choices! Good for you on the loss so far. By the way, if you like cheesecake, there are low carb versions of it. Got some cream cheese thawing right now so I can make one! Here's a recipe (below) that I got from Paula Deen and I'm going to substitute the sugar for splenda. Another thing, my dh drinks beer and since he's been on LC he drinks Michelob Ultra which is very low in carbs. He's dropped 38 lbs. since Jan. 24th. of this year and I've lost 30 so far! What I'm saying is there are ways to still have some of the things you like every now and then so long as you make some adjustments. Now I'm not suggesting you give up on Atkins, but if you can't stick to it then just try going Low Carb.!! Better than throwing the towel completely.
PAULA DEEN’S CHEESE CAKE CUPCAKES
2 (8-ounce) packages cream cheese, softened
1 cup sugar (USE SPLENDA)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 eggs
12 vanilla wafers (I PLAN TO USE GROUND NUTS OR NOTHING)
1 (21-ounce) can cherry pie filling or other pie filling (OMIT OR USE CHERRY FILLING WITH SPLENDA)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Place a paper cupcake liner in each cup of muffin pan. Beat cream cheese with a handheld electric mixer until fluffy. Add sugar and vanilla, beating well. Add eggs, 1at a time, beating well after each addition. Lay a vanilla wafer, flat side down, in each muffin cup. Spoon cream cheese mixture over wafers. Bake for 20 minutes. Allow tarts to cool completely. Serve with cherry filling on top, or pie filling of your choice.

Thanks, everybody, for your support. It means more than you know. I just realized That I have been eating protien and fat exclusively (except for that ONE slip-up) for 37 days now...that's a 12 pound loss in just over a month. How does that sound? Am I in the ballpark or should I be expecting a greater loss next month than this first month's.

If all you want to do is drop a few pounds in a hurry, then any ol' "diet" will do. Might as well try the All Hot Dog diet famously used by college students since the beginning of time. All Pork Steak diet could work, too.
However, if you want to reach your healthiest weight, best blood profile, and optimum heart function--and maintain all that for life--better dig out the Atkins book (or whatever plan seems livable) and give it a thorough study.
Best wishes.

You should really read the book - this is not Atkins for one. Second 6 piece of cheesecake???!! You need some serious therapy, if you have such little self control you are eating like that. I can barely eat half a piece , it is so rich. Just the thought of that is sickening.
