I didn't go grocery shopping today, so I ended up having to have boiled eggs w/mayo (i.e. egg salad) for dinner. Part way through I almost threw up. Maybe I'm going through a bit of an induction flu. 2 days ago I upped my carbs for a single dinner, then yesterday was perfectly lc and so was/is today. Maybe that's why I feel sick.

I just really hate eating a lot of fat, to be honest. And I've never been a real fan of meat. It's not that I was a big carb fan only, but I used to eat a lot of beans and vegetarian options. Without those, I'm left with meat and there are some days like today I just want to sit and cry. I'd kill for a bowl of lentil chili, I swear. LOL I hate hate hate eating this way some days. I'm not craving anything and Im not hungry. I just hate all this fat somedays.

I blame all this anger on the fact I have NO food in the house right now. I meant to shop today and didn't. Tomorrow morning what will I eat? I'll find myself skipping breakfast again in favor of just a coffee with cream. I am not going to eat another dang egg.

Argh! What is this that I'm going through! I'm feeling angry yet at the same time unshakable in my decision to stay on this plan. I'm eating a variety, but what is it that has me feeling like screaming and not touching another drop of butter? Is this a result of another induction flu?

OH well it's just a really rotten period Im in while I sit here following my plan perfectly and seeing the stupid scale sit where it is and refuse to budge. At the same time the tapemeasure is showing inches lost. Ya right, "oh but that's good." Let's get real here, you can't keep losing inches forever without the scale moving. While I'm happy the inches are dropping, I need to see the scale move.

Someone tell me to shut up and go to bed, will you? I'm cranky and I hate dieting. And no, it's not TOM or PMS. LOL!!

Hello Greenwitch!

I totally understand what you are saying. I get the same way. I'm not a huge lover of meat or greasy things like mayonaisse, and I do get sick of what I'm eating on any diet after a few weeks. Just a couple of days ago I hit that point, in fact. Couldn't even face the thought of another piece of beef, chicken, egg, or cheese!

What has helped me is not for everyone, I know, but I thought I'd throw it out there. I have been fasting one day a week, and believe me, the next day I find that all my diet food is pretty appealing again. Amazing what real hunger can do for your palate! LOL

Other than that, I am planning to try changing up my menus a little, maybe trying some new recipes. I too wish I knew what causes the occasional "yuck" response to low-carb food... it's been the downfall of many a diet for me, unfortunately. But I'm determined to figure it out this time.

Hang in there (and get your butt to the grocery store! :D )

I've found that you have to work at finding things that appeal to you. My new finds- chocolate whipped cream, shirataki noodles with homemade alfredo sauce, flax bread etc.
And the trick is, not to eat these things too often. I used to love quiche, ended up eating it for almost two weeks straight and now, i can't stand to look at it. I dont think the average american diet is so varied, before I was low carbing, my bf and i ate chicken just about every night. Weekly, I'll have a flax muffin in the morning (unless I want something more carby at lunch, i'll have some chicken or something), a salad at lunch, and dinner which i try to vary everyday. this seems to me like the eating style of a lot of people. Explore the recipe section, and I agree, fasting for a day really brings back your appetite- I was on the fat fast for two days and would have eaten anything in sight. Don't worry, the scale will move, be patient and don't give up!

You're both ABSOLUTELY right. I need to shake things up a bit. I got caught in a rut. I need variety and I'm really used to variety in general, but haven't done that in a while, unless we're eating out and even then I find I'm sticking to what I know, you know? The fat and meat distaste will never really go away since it's just not my thing, but I said it before and I'll say it again - food is not entertainment, I'm looking at it like medication.

It's quite hilarious to look in the mirror, measure myself and see my waist is down 4.5" and I'm only down 12lbs. I really will be the phenomenon 300 pound size 6 woman. HAHAHA!

Thanks gang, I so appreciate you knowing what I'm battling right now. It's times like this I can feel my resolve get even stronger. :)

I felt much the same as you when I first started. I've never liked meat much, never ate breakfast and never liked fat and greasy. I also never ate the same things very often, because I would OD on even foods that I loved. I loved fruit and veggies, beans and bread.

What I had to do was work on changing my attitude about these foods, because this is the only way I can lose weight and keep it off. I did a LOT of positive self talk in order to begin to actually enjoy the diet. I got all the "can'ts" out of my vocabulary. (read my signature) Soon, I was eating breakfast earlier and earlier. Soon, I was craving eggs at meals other than breakfast. I learned to eat added butter in eggs and veggies instead of cooking everything in butter flavor Pam and taking a paper towel and blotting off excess 'grease'. I now love fattier meats as long as I don't fry them. I cook most stuff on the grill. The most amazing to me was that I went from barely using mayo (on a sandwich, you could barely see it) to slathering it on my meats and adding a lot instead of a little in egg salad, tuna salad or chicken salad.

I now love this way of eating and know I can do it for life. Did it happen right away? No, but it only took about a month to totally change my attitude towards food and fat. I now crave what I can have on this WOE and only crave what I can't have once in a blue moon. You have to make up your mind that this is for you and change your negative thinking. It can be done.

Sunny!

I agree with Sunny that a shift in attitude will take you miles into your journey...or pounds ;)

I chose SBD largely in part because I too, do not enjoy eating so much fat. I like a large variety of foods in my diet aka food plan. I refuse to call this a diet because it is not a diet any longer...it is the way I eat now...it is my food plan. I like eating lots of veggies....some beans, some dairy, love salmon , chicken and turkey and yes...I love a good rare steak about once a week :yum:

I make a great chicken or turkey chili and I use black soy beans which are very low carb. I also add in slices of zucchini and mushrooms for added low carb bulk. I make a huge pot and then freeze 5 x 2 cup portions for future meals...I'm always stocked with some food or other for quick and easy meals and snacks. I also precook 2 lbs of chicken breast and turkey breast cutlets each week, in my own marinades :yum: , for easy meals.

I'm not trying to get you to switch plans...what I am saying is that you too, can make a chili to eat and enjoy!!

One thing that Dr Agatson said in the SBD book that really struck me is that we need to truly enjoy the foods we are eating to make this a way of life....you know what you enjoy....figure out how to incorporate your likes into your food plan.

HTH!! :)

I can't recall who originally posted this recipe but I do know that it is very filling and satisfying without being 'meaty' or 'eggy'. Brocolli-Cheese Soup
You will need one bunch of brocolli, 2 cups (maybe a little more depending on size of brocolli) low salt chicken broth, 1/4 cup cream (I use 18%), 1/2 cup X-sharp cheddar (the older and sharper the better). Cut stalks off brocolli and divide tops into florets, peal stalks and cut into 1/2 inch pieces. Cook in the chicken broth until barely tender then add forets and cook another 7 minutes. Puree solids and some of the broth in blender thoroughly, return to pot and stir in cream and cheese. Gently cook over medium-low heat stirring often until cheese melts. This is one of the nicest soups I've ever had and it has kept me on track more than once. I would like to know the carb count if anyone wants to figure it out (I'll try but it will take some time). I have about a cup at a time since it is so filling. Keeps nice in the fridge too. To the person who originally posted this recipe THANK YOU, YOU'RE AN ANGEL! Diane

Ok,,, here goes, the carb count for the soup seems to be something like this: 1/2 cup chopped brocolli is 2.3 subtract 1.3 grams for fibre = 1 carb per 1/2 cup used; 1/2 cup cheese is 2; 1/4 cup cream is 4; broth (Campbells's low sodium chicken broth) is 0. Depending on size of brocolli (I think maybe 5 cups of everything chopped and florets) the total for the entire pot of soup should be about 16 grams of carbs. I can get about 6 servings from the pot (more or less). I would say about 2 1/5 to 3 carbs per serving. Trust me,,,, carbs well spent!
Also for those interested in knowing (you know who you are) my resources are Corinne T. Netzer's 'The Complete Book of Food Counts' and the manufacturers packaging. Di

I just wanted to chime in and say that i know EXACTLY what youre feeling! I recently did a round of Slim in Six training (you may have seen the infomercial for it). Its a pretty rigorous exercise regime.

I ended up losing ELEVEN inches over all and i did not lose ONE DANG pound!

I've subsequently lost another 2 or 3 inches overall and still not one pound.

I keep telling people that i'm becoming more dense. It gets me funny looks. :agree:

I agree with those who have suggested it's not necessary to eat large amounts of fatty meat while you're successfully low-carbing. You can use olive and nut oils instead of animal fats, if you prefer. You can eat fish, skinless chicken, tofu, and other soy products if they agree with you. You can use low-fat cheese and cottage cheese. You can make stir-fries with a small portion of lean meat, chicken, fish, or tofu (enough to be satisfying), lots of veggies, and a handful of almonds. Low-carb eating does not have to be heavy or greasy, and can incorporate a variety of vegetarian choices if that's what you like.

Low-carb doesn't need to be Atkins, either. Check out some of the other options available, and see if another plan's more to your taste. If you don't like what you're doing, the only way to succeed is to try something else.

You're all absolutely right. I know one thing that I've learned out of this whatever-it-is-I'm-going-through ....LC'ing is the way to go. I'm 1000% convinced and unshakable in my resolve these days because I feel so damned good. Not going grocery shopping yesterday and being out of foods that I could eat really left me with eggs, meat, creamcheese, butter, cream. That's all I had and I just lost my mind!

BUT ....I went groceyr shopping this morning and am stocked up with a great variety and a ton of safe veggies and the works. There's no denying the results of eating this way and a stall is a stall is a stall. Bottom line is I'm losing and not gaining and this is not a race, you're right.

Now, having said that, I've been researching SouthBeach and I'm going to switch my plan over to SouthBeach. I know the food will agree with me more.

I've read a few people feel pukey from too much fat or rich foods. Guess I'm not alone there. Whew!

I'm so thankful for you all, you have no idea....

I'm one of those people...I avoid the fats on the WOL....I dont see how people eat eggs slathered with mayo etc...so your not alone as you have seen...Your making it work for YOU...and that takes some tweaking....most of us who stick with it seem to take a basic plan and modify it in ways that will help us stick with it for the long run...Your doing just that and it will work for you!! Hope you have some great meals this week!!

Bev, I was so happy to hear that you made a breakthru in how you preceive LC'ing and that by switching to South Beach it will be a better fit! I'm very excited for you. This was past week as a biggy and very hard, so I'm also very happy that you're through it!
Now on with becoming the 300 pound woman who is skinny as a rail!! :D

Thanks Kandra!! You're so right. I've been fighting with my body and the food for the last week or so, but my resolve isn't going anywhere. In fact I'm kind of blown away by how I'm actually more determined than ever. I'm so glad I went in to this with the idea that this isn't a diet, but more like "recovery" and medication, yanno?

Well, I had a great dinner. Skinless chicken breasts with cajun seasoning, cooked in olive oil, and a huge side of asparagus, brocolli and cabbage with diced red peppers and sliced mushrooms all sauteed in a little olive oil and butter. I'm full, I'm satisfied, and I feel really good - finally.

It should be interesting to see what happens on the scale.

I predict that you will lose weight and be happy with your food!! :D

I'm so glad I went in to this with the idea that this isn't a diet, but more like "recovery" and medication, yanno? Totally! And not only that but it has to be comfortable in order to be doable for a lifetime.

You got your veggies!! :D And you didn't have to do that feeling of fat in your mouth with just a tad of butter and EVOO. Hey, and wasn't the crunchiness satifsying! :D

Greenwitch...the first time I lc'd, to me it was the weirdest thing. My scale would not budge even one ounce, but I'd be out buying new smaller pants...then all of the sudden, the scale would stop several pounds lighter than before. I was losing inches like crazy but pounds slowly.
First time around I lost 40 pounds and went from 24/26 (should have been wearing 26's but refused) down to slightly tight fitting 16's.
Dang...I could be wearing size 6 or even 4 if I hadn't stopped lowcarbing! :bash:
