Hi. I started Atkins 11 days ago and have only lost 2 pounds so far. I'm wondering if I'm doing some wrong with the special category foods. I do count the carbs, but am wondering if I'm eating too many of them. Could someone clarify. Is it that each day you can have:
10 to 20 olives
OR
1/2 an avacado
OR
3 ounces of unsweetened heavy cream
OR
1 ounce of sour cream
AND
2 to 3 TB lemon juice
Also, is the 2 to 3 tbsp of cream that's allowed each day (and mentioned elsewhere in the book) in addition to the 3 ounces of cream if cream is the special category food choice one makes for that day, or included?

you're right in the "OR" part with the olives, avocado, sour cream, etc. as far as the cream question, i've heard and seen people do both... that is, both using it as a special category item, OR including the cream as part of their daily food AND use extra as a special category. the general thought is that as long as you count the carbs, you should be ok.

melsm...that's how I read it, too. You can choose ONE of those items PLUS the lemon juice.
Yes, I do consider the "beverage" cream to be in addition to the "special category" cream!

PS...you don't have a lot of weight to lose, so losing 2 pounds for you I would think is good...just fine :)

Hello I Started The Atkins Diet On Sunday And I Am Eating 20 Carbs A Day And Sometimes A Little Less Depending On What I Eat That Day. I Weighed Myself This Morning And I Had Already Dropped 6 Lbs, I Was So Surprise And Very Happy. I Also Make Sure To Stay Active And Not To Go Over 20 Carbs Aday. In The Mornings I Eat Eggs And Sausage Or Bacon. Lunch I Will Eat Like A Hamburger Without The Bun Just Make It A Hamburger Salad And Drink Water Ao Country Light Lemonade Only 2 Carbs In It. And For A Snack I Would Have Sugar Free Jello And Supper Maybe Porkchops And A Salad And I Am Satisfied And Today I Get To Start Going To The Gym. Good Luck And Let Me Know How It Goes. :) :) :)
