everyone was off for four weeks over easter.

so i think great, i can happily cook and eat without flat mates around.

i HATE more than anything eating infront of people because firstly theyre like you eat weird stuff because im on atkins. but mainly because im worried theyre thinking 'oh my god you shouldnt be eating...your fat'
so i usually make food really late at night and eat food that i could quickly make and take to my room or keep cheese in my mini fridge in my room and snack on that etc

but now after two weeks one of them is back and is staying till the end.

:(

Don't worry about them, hon. If they were actually thinking "you shouldn't be eating, you're fat", then the reverse reply from you would apply. " You shouldn't be talking, you're stupid".

Sorry if the attitude is a little flippant, but you have to do what's best for you. They don't know what's best for you. But you'll show them!

First off, what kind of friends are they if they are thinking that "you shouldn't be eating that cause your fat"? Perhaps they aren't thinking that. I would think being 5' 8"/9" you hardly look "fat" at 150lbs. If someone is rude enough to comment on your food, ignore them. They will soon see the results that LC eating can bring then they'll be asking you what they should be eating.

Hi there,

This won’t address your whole problem, I understand how you feel about people seeing you eat, for years I couldn’t eat in public because I felt the same way.

But about this

theyre like you eat weird stuff because im on atkins.

What do you eat that is weird? Are eggs weird? Is chicken weird? Is salad weird?

I just looked at your stats and if they’re correct then you’re not terribly overweight for your height. I know.........you think you are and I won’t argue with you, I’ve been there too. But just TELL your roomates you’re on a plan and you’re following it. If one of them was a vegetarian or allergic to something I bet the others would say “oh they eat weird stuff” - so let them. Agree with them, make it funny, but keep on eating what your supposed to.

Good luck.

My first thought, too, was what could possibly be weird about a chicken cesar salad or a nice salmon fillet over creamed spinach?

Sorry to hear about these people. Everytime I read about your woes with your roommates, I'm reminded how wonderful it was to live ALONE for almost 15 years...

About the social eating, I've definitely been there. Most of my life, actually. The first few weeks at my new job, people would invite me to eat with them, and I'd always do the "oh, I just ate, but I'd be happy to hang out for a bit" thing and sit with them while they ate. It's only the last week or so I can actually eat in front of them, and even then, it depends on what it is. I had roast beef, creamed cheese, and dill pickle rollups today, and couldn't for the life of me eat that in front of anyone.

The truth of the matter is, at least for these guys, they don't care what I eat, except to occasionally note that my meals are better than theirs  One time one of them commented that my WOE would kill me, and I just pointed out that he just polished off some huge double cheeseburger thing from Wendy's, a large fry, and regular soda, and that he should spend more time worrying his diet was killing him than worrying over my poor little cup of shrimp sauteed in butter and garlic. He hasn't commented since.

As others have said, I don't think at your height you are fat at 150 pounds, although I know you feel that way. When they're around, are they always in/near the kitchen? Maybe plan times to cook when they're just not around. Or stock up on things like salad ingredients and precooked chicken strips so you can make a quick salad (w/some bleu cheese dressing on it, even) and leave with it?

I promise you, even though I know it doesn't feel that way, you are worrying much more about what you put into your mouth than they are. Even if they do think any of the things you worry about (and if they do, they're no friends of yours), you know what the best revenge is, right? Lose the weight you want to lose, and love the skin you're in. That always shuts people up, at least in my experience
