Hi there everyone  This seems like a friendly place to hang out.
I've been lurking around for a couple of days and just decided to jump on in. My name is Jena. Currently I'm hovering around 260 lbs (you have no idea how hard that is to write).
I did Atkins a few years ago, without the benefit of a support group. Did pretty well, lost 40 pounds in less than a year. Then I got hurt and was told by my doc to sit down and read a book to keep from re-injuring myself (which I was doing almost daily). Well, almost 6 months of that and I regained every bit of it.
Finally decided over the weekend that I really need to get back to low carb. Gave today a trial run and was almost impressed with myself. Only thing is that I have to learn to enjoy drinking water (gag).
Tomorrow I'm going to begin a 5-day fiber cleanse recommended by my doctor, then I will being my lc journey in ernest. :agree:
I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and enjoying this lc thing with some folks who can relate this time around.

Welcome Happy! Ooooh I think we know how hard it is to admit how much we weigh. You people are the only ones who know what I weigh. Even DH doesn't know! Something kind of freeing about being 100% honest out here.

Good luck on your journey! Can I ask you about your fiber cleanse? Why did your doctor recommend it? Are you using a certain product?

Welcome to the forums! I'd like to suggest that you start a journal. Its a great way to record menus, emotions etc on your weight loss journey.

Welcome! Believe me, it took SEVERAL long moments for me to write down my weight. That was my deep dark secret from a long time. However, it really becomes liberating here. It's the one place I have actually felt secure and free enough to talk about everything related to my weight, the losing of my weight, and everything in between! You have joined up with a GREAT bunch of people. Enjoy all of the support you will get here, there is definitely plenty to go around!!

Welcome to the TDC Jena! Good luck on your weight loss journey. I think many of us ( me included) know how hard it is to admit your true weight. There is no one ( outside of my doctor) that knows my true weight. When I first started and had to admit to what I weighed, it was traumatic for me. I still hate looking at the number, but I do like the progress I've made and the great people here who support me along the way! I think you'll enjoy it here!

Hi Happy, I have had similiar issues. I did Atkins back in 2003-04 and did great. I made it down to 198. I have been off for a few years and have been lurking around the boards again to find the right words to get me excited and ready to do it again. I weighed in a few days ago at 270 and am down to 266 today. I also hate writing my weight I guess it has been easier to deny it when I don't acknowledge it. I am excited to be back on track and I will be sticking around these boards because I don't know what to do without them.

Welcome Jena, and sure, this is one group that knows exactly what you're saying! we all understand and have been there, done that! I had never told anyone my weight until I got here. (Except the lady at the passport office, who, bless her soul, Never even batted an eye. It was hubby that raised his eyebrow.)
Good luck on your journey! ..Jody.

Welcome, Jena!!

And yep, I feel your pain too. When I first started to register for this site, I was mortified by the thought of my weight hanging out there beside my name for all to see. Like others here, my husband doesn't even know! Stepping on the scale at the doctor's office is like some kind of torture ritual.

I've found, though, that it keeps me focused. Seeing that number staring at me every day, knowing I want a MUCH lower number, then watching as the number gets smaller and smaller....woo hooo!!

Best of luck to you on your journey. We're all in your corner!

Thanks for all the wonderful, warm welcomes!!

Greenwitch: about the fiber cleanse~she recommended it for me because we were discussing my inability to lose any weight and I explained to her that the portion controlling thing didn't work for me because my stomach always felt "growly" unless I stuffed myself full. Today was my first day on it, and so far so good. The brand is Usana and the specific program is called Reset. It's not too horrible, either. LOL (Hope it's ok to give that info on the board). She uses the product whenever she gets to feeling like that and it helps to get her back on track, so she suggested it for me.

It's interesting to me how different scales can give different readings. The weight that I posted as my starting weight was from my docs office scale (one of those with the sliding bars, being read by her MA extern). Before I left Curves tonight, I stepped on their scale (electronic) and it read 255.8. Which is 3 pounds down from my starting weight at the end of December. Since I go to Curves more often than the docs office, I think I'll stick to the Curves weight instead since it's more trackable (is that a word??) :D

I use my home scales just to get a "ballpark idea of which way my weight is going", since they're so unreliable (the reading changes, depending on which way you lean and exactly where your feet are placed on them - and I know they're anywhere from 5-15 lbs light, too  ), but use the gym scales to track my actual weight.

I'd say just use whichever scales you have access to on a regular basis (preferably scales that are a lot more reliable than my home scales are! ;) ) But it really doesn't matter if they're perfectly accurate, you just want to be able to track your progress.

Welcome to the site!

As with everyone else, I couldn't even add my numbers to the weekly weigh in at first, then when I did I found it very freeing because of the support I got...

I look forward to being on this journey with you---let's get to goal, shall we?

I refuse to allow a scale into my home. Did that once...the thing tried to take over my life! ;) So, now, got to get my bootie to the gym if I wanna know how much I've lost. LOL
