Hi All,

My HBO wants me to change meters and so far I've managed to resist for the last 3 months. But I really could use the saving on the strips now, so I'd really appriciate any and all opinons on the two that I've narrowed it down to.

1st is the Precision Xtra from Abbot. I have a freestyle from Abbott and I hate it, maily b/c of the case and I don't much care for the semi circlular collectors. So I'm hoping the Precision Xtra is better in these areas.

2nd is the Accu-Check, Compact Plus. How well does the test strip drum work?

I am using the One Touch Ultra so I'm really hoping that one of the two is at least , just as good.

TIA Glennette

I switched from Freestyle flash to Relion Ultra.
Relion test strips are available at WalMart-100
for $45.00.Meter is $9.00.Works fine.
Cheers
Eddie

I've been using ReliOn, Consumer Reports gave them the same accuracy as other meters, namely excellent. They did say that they were not as consistent. I am not quite sure what it means to be as accurate as One Touch (a top rated one) but not as consistent. They also were rated less convenient than One Touch, but I have no problem using them. By the way I asked at Walmart for some assistence on using the meter. Got lousy advice, but figured it out over the next few weeks.

Medicare covers eighty per cent of the cost of a box of strips and decided that for my purposes they were OK.

Thanks for your responses eddiemcm & robll.
Perhaps I'll swich to the ReliOn in 3 years when I'm eligible for medicare! Sounds like a great deal.

But for now the HMO wants me on either of the ones I listed.
Right now it only cost me $50 for 100 of the one touch strips and it will be cheaper when I switch to one of the HMO "approved" meters.

Thanks again, Glennette
