Your LIFE: HEALTH NEWS By MADELEINE BAILEY

Soya eases sore eyes

SOYA lecithin, an ingredient found in margarine, has been
found to cure and prevent dry eye syndrome.

This condition affects up to four million people in the UK
and is caused by ageing, contact lenses, central heating,
air conditioning and staring at computer screens. Eyes
become dry and sore and if not treated their surface layer
could end up damaged.

Soya lecithin helps stop the eyes' moisture from evaporating.
In a clinical trial of 382 people, 89 per cent of sufferers
reported an improvement.

Hey, Tom....

Can you ... by any chance ... do any better than "Madeleine
Bailey -- whoever she is -- says ....?"

Like ... IF it was "found to cure and prevent" (which it
wasn't), can we see some evidence of that?

If not ... then please allow me to introduce you to Otis
Brown....

Gee, Rusty, why are you wasting your time on this when you
should be investigating the death of Captain America? This
great American hero has DIED, Rusty! You know why you should
dig into this, Rusty? It's because he was killed by IRON MAN!
That's right, his soi-disant (not soy-lecithin) ally secretly
poisoned our national hero with his IRON EMANATIONS! You knew
it all along, didn't you? Tony Stark is really a covert
Commie-symp! He's the traitor who provided the IRON that went
into the Hammer and Sickle! He's using his guise of a stalwart
capitalist to spread IRON! How could you miss that when you've
got all his comic books memorized?

You can't ignore this, Rusty! Fox News itself has said that
comic books are somewhat realistic--just like you! Come on,
Rusty, Fox has told you what to think, so get on the stick!

I don't believe it. Soya lecithin is a sludge left over from
making tofu. It is used as a thickener and texturizer for
manufactured fake foods.

I know one person who uses only margarine (and not butter) and
she suffers from the exact problem that you suggest is
supposed to be cleared by margarine.

I see, it isn't intended to fix the problem, just manage it,
kinda, sorta, possibly. Typical allopathic crap.

The 'treatment' .. using .. lecithin .. usually uses about
three tablespoons of lecithin per day. How much margarine
would one have to use to adhere to this .. protocol .. ?

It is the **dose** that makes the difference ..

Much like any 'drug' .. you don't give ENOUGH to **treat**
then the .. protocol / treatment is not going to work.

The lecithin is SPECIFICALLY depleted by iron oxidation and
this lecithin MUST be replaced and this is accomplished by
refilling .. much like being low on oil in your car ..

When the oil light comes on .. putting a pint in isn't
going to cut
it .. one has to put in at least a quart of oil to .. top UP
.. the lost / oxidized oil / lecithin.

http://www.irishpharmacist.ie/ New soya-based dry eye
treatment launched A spray treatment for dry eye conditions
that uses soya lecithin to mimic the eye=E2=80=99sown lipid
layer has been launched in Ireland. Clarymist, which is
sprayed on toclosed rather than open eyes, was developed to
treat dry eye syndrome, which a 2000 study1 suggested affects
10% of the population. Soya lecithin acts as an analogue to
the eye=E2=80=99s lipid layer, which controls the rate of
evaporation of tear fluid. The manufacturers say that most dry
eye cases are caused by a deficient or disrupted lipid layer,
which leads to abnormally fast evaporation of tears and
subsequent irritation. Clarymist stabilises this lipid
layer, thus sealing in the tears and alleviating the burning,
scratching and grittiness associated with dry eye syndrome.By
spraying Clarymist on to the closed eyelid, an even
distribution of natural oils across the outer surface of the
tear film is ensured through blinking action. One of the main
reasons the lipid layer is disrupted is because of
insufficient blinking, which typically occurs during long
hours spent in front of a computeror television.Other
contributing factors to dry eyes are dehydration due to
central heating and air-conditioning,various prescription
drugs and ailments, such as rheumatoid arthritis and diabetes.
Contact lens wearers are also prone to dry eye
conditions, which may worsen with ageing.Optometrist and senior
lecturer in optometry at Aston University, UK, Dr Frank
Eperjesi, said: =E2=80=9CClarymist is the first dry eye
treatment of its kind and will come as a welcome relief to
many sufferers. The extensive clinical research behind it

the symptoms of dry eyes. It is asignificant breakthrough in

It works if you rub it in your eyes.

Rusty <teamtanner@hotmail.com> brought tears to my eyes when

Translation: The use of LA and GLA, which anyway have nothing
to do with lecithin, make absolutely no difference in the care
of dry eyes. The tear substitutes are what made the
difference. As to how effective they are, the test which Rusty
cited doesn't offer any useful information. In fact the test
didn't real say or prove anything worthwhile. That must be why
Rusty likes it.

Oooh, Rusty, you're using ASTERISKS! Everyone loves it when
you get that upset!

> It is quite .. irritating ..

What's this, Rusty? You think it's irritating to NOT have dry
eye syndrome? And, hey, you forgot to include a bunch of
irrelevant URLs with ads. Wow, you ARE upset! Maybe you should
go out and buy yourself a new foil hat. Make it one of the
extra-large ones. You can wrap yourself up in it like a baked
potato . . . then lie down next to this nice sirloin steak I'm
fixing for tomorrow night's barbecue . . . right after we all
take our Maxi-Strength Iron Pills.

> Gum .. on .. a .. shoe ..

So that's your favorite bubblegum flavor? Or are you saying
that you like to put your gums to people's shoes? Not that
anyone cares to know what turns you on--certainly not so soon
after dinner.

Now come down from the cross, Rusty. We need the wood for
tomorrow tonight's barbecue.
