One hears lots of negative talk (and rightly so, in many
cases) about fast foods but I think there is a whole category
of "fast food" that is being unfairly left out of the
discussion. Fast foods imply restaurant foods to the exclusion
of other sources of foods.
What about the "fast food" that one buys at the supermarket?
It is no better, and in many cases worse, than restaurant fast
food. Mac and Cheese is virtually empty of nutrients. Pastas
as well. Then there are pre-prepared meals with added sugars,
starches, thickeners, colourants, and flavourants. Instant
soups that are just a bunch of chemical powders in a styrofoam
cup (just add water). Sunny Dee is an orange coloured sugary
syrupy sweet drink that I suspect many people actually believe
to be an acceptable alternative to orange juice thus allowing
their children to ingest obscene amounts of sugar and hfcs.
White flour crackers advertised as baked not deep fried, and
supposedly healthier because of it, even though it is still a
completely nutrient-deficient white flour product.
How many people rely on these pre-prepared nutrient-deficient
chemical- laden crap foods while believing that they are
actually getting some semblance of nutrition?
