Oh, he is also trying to sell his own diet plan, which the link at the bottom of the page doesn't work anymore ;)
This was also a link my girlfriend sent me. Her doctor told her to go on South Beach. I chose Atkins instead, as it was much easier to understand and less room for messing up.
I hate how people instantly listen to any doctor that says anything. Doctors still have to specialize in a field and then even specialize in a particular part of that field.

One of the most popular diets of the late 20th Century has been the Atkins protein diet, named after its founder and guru Dr. Robert C. Atkins. As soon as I see "protein diet" or "high-protein diet" I click the back button-- Atkins is a high-fat not a high-protein diet.

She noted that the diet "is also low in fruits and vegetables
The American Dietetic Association, however, maintains that in order to avoid potential health hazards one should only lose 1-2 pounds per week. Pounds lost quickly on diets like Atkins are often regained because faulty habits have not been changed
Finally, nothing about the Atkins diet encourages the dieter to learn some very basic weight management strategies like portion control and serving sizes, let alone develop the skills necessary for a lifetime of balanced nutrition.
One would think that they would at least read the book before giving their expert opinion...
I pity those people in a way.

There is one snippet of advice that makes sense; it's near the bottom of the page .. If you don't want to take someone else's views of the Atkins Diet as fact, read the books and form your own opinion:
