I am 4-5 weeks into this LC. Today I made a "special" treat for myself. It was a low carb coffee cake with 9 carbs per piece. I went overboard and ate 3 pieces. Besides the guilt, I have felt so horrible all day. I ate this around 1:00 p.m. and haven't been able to eat anything since. My stomach has hurt and I have felt so sick with flu like symptoms. I took my son to the park and the whole time I was sweating and feeling lethargic.

I will not stray from the plan.

That's a self-correcting behavior, if I ever saw one! I hope you feel better soon.

I would stay away from that stuff till you are at goal and then only infrequently.

Hmmm...was that cake made with wheat flour? Sounds like a gluten reaction to me...

Sometimes those LC baked treats ok but if you overeat them, you'll still feel it. You still have to exercise due diligence. Hope you feel better soon! What was in the cake, anyway?

welcome to the carb hangover. this is just another one of the things i love about this way of life... if you screw up, your body lets you know. if you screwed up on low-fat/low-cal, your body wouldn't tell you.

along with the wheat/gluten issues, is there maybe something in the cake that you didn't realize you were allergic to? my ex had issues with white corn (not yellow, just white), so i had to be careful of anything that contained white corn syrup... not "light" corn syrup, WHITE. either way, at least you've gotten back up on the wagon, and i hope you're feeling better now :).

You might find using ground flax to make a cake might not affect you as much as one made with other ingredients. I made my DH flax buns and cakes all through his induction with no bad effects.

Oh, yes it would! I was on a low-cal diet for about 2 weeks last year. One day, I had really greasy food.

It took me half an hour to restore my bathroom to its prior clean state. :Puke:

yowch... well actually i meant more along the lines of overeating in calories, and i'd be more likely to blame the restaurant that prepared the food than the grease content (maybe they didn't keep fresh oil or a clean fryer or something).

either way, i know what you mean :).

Elizellen,

Where can I find the recipes you used please? My dh and I have gotten used to flax bread, actually I prefer it now, so I'd like to try other recipes using flax that are recommended rather than experiment and waste the ingredients. lol Flax is not cheap in my area.

You guys are so great. I don't know what was in the coffee cake. It was a store bought (supposedly) Low carb version. I threw away the box right away...duh! I wish I would've kept it so I could know what was in it that made me so sick. I tell ya'll something, all I ate yesterday was a steak for lunch and then that coffee cake disaster. Today, all I have eaten was fajita steak for lunch and now some cheese burgers. I am trying to get back on track and not get any more cravings! Especially not cravings for icky sicky stuff (like LC products)!

Elizellen,

Where can I find the recipes you used please? All I do is add some flavouring and sweetener to my usual flax bread recipe!
So adding some instant coffee (decaf LOL) and splenda makes coffee cake; some unsweetened cocoa plus splenda makes chocolate cake and adding some SF davinci blueberry syrup and a few blueberries (on berries level/rung of OWL) makes blueberry muffins.

Once you reach the nuts/seeds rung and are allowing yourself almonds and walnuts etc you can really extend your choices!! Coffee/walnut cake or almond cake becomes possible!!
