Hi...I have been at this for 2 weeks...my ketostix read purple everyday...I am drinking 8 to 10 glasses of water daily....my total carbs are less than 15 grams....I AM in ketosis....but I have not lost a pound or any inches at all....not even a little bit...
I am exercising daily...1 hour walk in the morning...30 minute swim....
my protein choices include mostly fish, chicken, beef and eggs, but I have had lamb and pork a couple of times.
I have had no processed "low carb" foods...only foods I prepare myself.
my only carbs have been from lettuce and cheese.
I have lost NOTHING...in fact I may have gained a pound.
does anyone know why this might be?

It might be good idea to list your menus including amounts etc so the more experienced Atkineers here can advise you.
Have you logged your food into one of the sites that adds up all your carbs for you? there is a good one called My PLAN with a link to it at the top of the page here.
BTW eggs do have some carbs (0.6 for a medium one).
Are you only eating lettuce as your 3 cups of veggies? You might fare better by choosing some more nutrient-rich alternatives from the 50+ allowed vegetables on the list.

It is odd that you didn't lose any weight at all, but I have to ask did you lose any size?

I have one egg in the morning with 2 or 3 slices of bacon or I have 2 eggs and a slice of cheddar if I am making an omelet...
for dinner I have about a cup of good lettuces (not iceburg) and the same for lunch.....with a little olive oil and wine vinegar....
thats it for the carbs...ther is no way that thats too much...anyway like I said I AM IN KETOSIS....I check everyday twice a day....
and I have lost no weight OR INCHES.

Hi.. To me, it sounds as if you may not be eating enough.
With the long walks/swimming you are burning and need to fuel your body as needed.
Your body may be in "starvation mode." Which means storing fat bc it feels you are not going to fuel it.
You may need to add a couple of Healthy LC snacks.
Keep us posted.

I am eating plenty...I have some form of meat for breakfast lunch and dinner....plus the salads...I eat leftover bacon for snacks...or leftovers from the meals...I can't eat anymore...I am never hungry.
has anyone heard of this happening to anyone else?

The not eating part...I can relate to. Not hungry. Just give it another week. I know it is hard and you so want to see results. Maybe you started out in a stall and next week you will have a big WOSH! Just hang in there, you are doing great!

Ok, then my next question is how much protein do you eat at lunch and dinner? And also where you in your monthly cycle? Medications? Health problems? Stress? Sleep habits? Are you eating bacon every day?

A couple of things:
1) women often retain water as their TOM nears. If yours is due soon, you may suddenly get that "whoosh" effect after you start, at which time you might see that you have actually lost a few pounds.
2) your bacon might have carbs, especially if it's sugar-cured. It also contains a lot of salt, which can cause you to retain water. In addition, some people have found that nitrates and nitrites (used to "cure" meats) can cause them to stall, although I have not personally had a problem with these substances. Cheese is fairly high in salt, too.
There's no way to avoid the weight-gain associated with your cycle (it's just water, anyway), but instead of bacon, you could buy fresh ground pork and add your own spices and seasonings to create a substitue for the bacon. Try to find something other than bacon to snack on during the day. Perhaps some deviled eggs, tuna with mayonnaise, etc.? :)

I had to double my cals with fat to start losing... I have a fatty liver which makes it hard for the liver to possess fat .. most people with IR do have FL even if the doc has not said so... what I am trying to spit out is give your body time to resolve some internal issues before getting to discouraged

I know that bacon can have carbs..and I am counting ALL my carbs....and I am getting protein at every meal...I am following induction to a tee...
besides...like I said...I AM IN KETOSIS...I check every day twice a day...I am not retaining water...and I am not near my period...
its not the carbs...I AM IN KETOSIS....my ketostix are dark every time, even with drinking water and exercising I still have dark ketostix....so how can I be in ketosis and not lose any weight OR INCHES for 2 weeks?
I wondered if anyone has heard of this before......perhaps this diet only works for some people?

I wasn't asking about the bacon b/c of the carbs. I was asking b/c it is a highly processed, salted and chemically treated meat that stops me cold when I eat it more than once a week.
I actually think that you may not be eating enough carbs. After my induction period of 2 green salads a day, I exchanged one salad for a 5g serving of induction vegetables per day and my weight loss actually increased. Your carbs may be too low. Dr A says that fat burns best with the addition of tiny amounts of carbs.
For me, purple ketostix with no weight loss means too much protein, so that's why I asked about that. The first time I tried Atkins back in the mid 90's I didn't really lose anything, and I realized I was overeating protein.
I asked about sleep, stress, health problems and medications b/c it all can affect weight loss. I'm trying to help you.
We're all trying to help. It's not just about the carbs.

Have you considered that you may actually be losing weight, but because of the salt in the bacon/cheese that you eat that you are exchanging pounds for water?
Don't forget the darkness of the ketostick does not mean that MORE fat is being burned, it just means that fat is being burned.
I think I remember reading that some people may need more carbs to lose effectively. You may just not be eating enough carbs and enough of a variety of carbs.
Also, some people have problems with cheese if they have a candida problem. Have you been tested for that?
I hope you figure out why the scale isn't moving and you get a WHOOSH soon! Good luck!

Just wanted to say that I logged on this morning to post almost the exact same message. I've been following Atkins Induction for over 2 weeks now - and although I lost a few pounds the first week (I think - although admittedly I hadn't weighed myself the day before I started like I should have.), I haven't actually lost anything since.
Like the original poster said, I'm also in ketosis, I eat a low amount of carbs (20 or less per day) and I drink absolutely tons of water. I'm pretty convinced I'm just one big ocean inside....
I'm sticking with it, as to be perfectly honest, I do actually feel better for not eating heavy rice and potatoes and stuff. But after the initial elation of losing the few pounds, I'm a bit disappointed.
Hoping I can post a message next week saying 'Oh! Nevermind. All is good in the world!!'
And I'm LOVING Dana Carpender's '500 Low Carb Recipes' - but just as a quickie question - doesn't anyone know if the recipes are available in digital format so I can plug them into my 'organized gourmet' program on my computer? That would save a lot of typing for me!

I get Dana's e-mail newsletters, and I have never seen her mention anything about her recipes being available in digital format. You could always run her name through Google and send her an e-mail from her website. Maybe she just hasn't thought of making the recipes available that way. :)

Exactly Elle & WJen..
That's what I was tryin' ta get across as well.
A lot of people here do see results quickly after starting, for others it takes a lil longer.
I love this quote by Joyce Meyer:
"We don't get into our messes overnight, and we sure can't get out of them overnight."
It's important to also remember the plans here are not "diets."
They are not quick fixes.
It's a way of life your body and spirit has ta get used to.
It's a healthy way to live. Not a diet.
It just takes time and watchin' closely what you are eating as mentioned already about salt and such.
Not eating too much, and also makin' sure you are gettin' enough of what ya need..:daze:
It's a dance that will get perfected over time.

Dr. Atkins descrines the person who is truly metabolically resistant won't lose much at all without getting more exercise or taking nutritional supplements that help weight loss, or even slightly restricting the amount of food he or she eats- or some combination of the three. If you are that rare person with a enormous metabolic resistance to weight loss, then this program will be a little more strenuous for you than everyone else. There may be medications (or hormones) you are taking that are interfering with your weight loss (anti-depressants, cardiovascular, anti-arthritic). You may have a thyroid disorder and there are medications that could help with this. One other option is doing a zero carbohydrate and seeing if you get results with this after two weeks. The other option is a vita-nutrient called L-carnitine which is especially suited for breaking the weight loss log jam. It catalyzes lipolysis, the reaction where fat can be used as fuel. This is expensive and the benefits are not shown until 8,000 mg are given. The other nutrients are lipoic acid, chromium, vanadium and a variety of herbs. Lastly, you need to find doctor who is familiar with supplementation and nutrition. Don't give up and read the book.

Here it is, my "Oh nevermind! All is good in the world!" post.
Stepped on the scale this morning, even though I promised myself and my mate that I wouldn't, and another few pounds gone. So it IS working. :)
Except The Boyfriend changed the scale to kilos, so it doesn't go down as fast. But hey ho, I'll put up with that...
Thanks for all the encouragement on the boards. Not directed at me, as I don't post much, but reading everyone's tales is really encouraging!

(On day 7 of wearing a different pair of shoes every day to convince myself and The Boyfriend that I really DO need all the pairs of shoes I own...)

I started Atkins in May 2006, lost 20kg (I think it's 40lbs or so, not sure) until November and then made a pause in Dec and Jan. My weight didn't change during the pause. I started again in February, the same way I did it in May, and for the whole month I GAINED 2kg :( Don't know how is it possible, the stix are pink all the time, and I feel the smell in my throat from time to time. Like someone said, I feel like a big ocean inside, my stomach looks like 5 months pregnant.
The only thing I can think of is stress, but I still don't know what to do. I just don't want to quit, it has to be better.
This is my first post here, just wanted to say that it happens. Hope it will be better soon :)

but I still don't know what to do.The very first thing you should do is reread your Atkins book to be absolutely certain that you are following the plan correctly. It's amazing how easily we forget little details, and sometimes those details can spell the difference between success and failure.
Good luck to you! :)

I did not see differences in weight until about a month. It does work, you have to stick with it & give it more time.
