Hello all,

I just bought a house and moved to San Antonio/Live Oak from Michigan (40 years in Kalamazoo and then Ann Arbor) to California in North County San Diego and now Texas for the last 18 months. So nice to live within my means. California was killing my finances. Glad to see so many low carbers from my new home state.

PS That cute kitten avator of mine is now a Texas sized cat at 22 pounds and he is 8 inches longer than my others and about 4 inches higher, too. Yeeehah!

Wow - this is awesome. A Texas thread!!!!! Glad to meet all my fellow Texans. I live in Wichita Falls which is 8 miles from the Oklahoma border. This is the start of my 6th day on Atkins and doing great so far. We went out to dinner with friends last night and I am so proud - I resisted the beer (which I love) chips & dip and the bread and butter they served. Stuck to my lc food and felt live I had climbed that mountain by resisting!!!!!!

I have lived on this site since joining. So inspirational and educational.

Look forwar to chatting with you all!

Fellow Texans,

How do you get over drinking iced tea? It is my understanding that the cafeine triggers cravings. Today is just the 7th day of my commitment to lc, but I am having a problem giving up my tea. I use splenda in my tea and drink 100 oz of water each day. I have had no cravings for sweets at all. Just wondering how ya'll got thru this.

Thanks,
Julie

MorganMac
Sun, Aug-19-07, 10:07
I used to drink tons of artificially sweetened drinks.. diet coke, pepsi jazz caramel (and black cherry vanilla, mmmm), iced tea, etc.

It took awhile, but I got down to 1 or 2 drinks a day and plain water the rest of the time.

Usually in the afternoons and evenings, I'll have one sweet drink - with great pomp and circumstance to make it special :)

Jarrod
Sun, Aug-19-07, 11:34
Jewel... I drink Iced Tea.....Unsweet ( sometimes add splenda ) but....it never seemed to trigger cravngs.... once you get to day 7 like you.....the cravings fade all together. I drink my coffee too....so...once you know what your body can or cant handle.....then you CAN overcome it....the cravings come from
the brain ! hahaa.... GOOD LUCK !! stay strong .... Jarrod

I find I crave alot less of the Iced Tea since I bought the liquid sucralose(Splenda).
www.sweetzfree.com (http://www.sweetzfree.com/)
There are no fillers(maltodextrin & such) that can trigger cravings! I love it!

Jarrod - Just have to know - did you really skip the shiner bock? 3 1/2 lbs this week!!!!!!!!!! Fantastic.

Keep me in your thoughts, fellow Texans. Our association at the lake is having a fish fry this weekend with all the trimmings. I am going to eat before I go, but this will be hard. I love fried catfish or is this legal?

Have a great weekend ya'll!

Jarrod
Fri, Aug-24-07, 16:22
Jewel and Cheryl Ann...
Yes... I did pass on Shiner bock...this is from a guy
that has the word Shinerman in his email address..
who has been to Shiner for the Brewery Tour..
has been to Bocktober fest.. ( and you wonder how I got
fat ?? haha )
So I had Steak...broccoli...and Water..... not as good as
a beer....but 3 lbs this week was the payoff !! haha..

Hope you all have a great weekend... Jewel....Stay good

Hey ya'll.......I have to admit I've been lurking in this thread for a while.
I'm originally from TX. Born and raised in Pleasanton (you know, the birthplace of the cowboy  ) and then went to high school in New Braunfels. Spent the last 10 years in northwest area of SA (up until 2 years ago).

Shiner Bock is the best damn beer in the world!!! LOL. Unfortunately it has like 13 carbs
Anyway, I'm in the Seattle, WA area now and I love it here. The weather is great but the Mexican food just doesn't compare.

So, even though I'm not a Texan anymore, just wanted to say hi.

Had the Cattleman's Ribeye MRare w/double broccoli at Texas Land & Cattle Co. It was delicious! Want to go back there for my birthday. I had a <<sip>> of ShinerBock, that was it...honest! How was everyone elses week-end?

Hey chubby....try 11 carbs per bottle...( of Shiner.) trust me..
I know....haha..... I so miss it....and those that live here in the south central Texas.....they cancelled the Shiner Bocktober fest
this year..... maaaan I was looking forward to it... I suppose it
got too big and they were losing money.....so.....
Oh well.........I like Shiner Lite too ! hehe...Oh wait....DUH...
Hey Chubby..I am wrong...you are right....( Shiner LITE has 11 carbs in it ) Shiner bock has about 13.

Hey Cheryl......lemme ask you....did you like the Broccoli at Tx
land and cattle.?? the night I went there..last Mon....
man....it sucked ...it was bitter.... and the vegs werent even cooked..( which is better for you I know...but the steamed
wasnt even steamed...) I told the manager as he walked around..
and asked..."is everything perfect?!!" I said...uh...no my broc
is not even cooked and it has a bitter taste...I had the other
two guys I was with taste it...to see if it was just me...
and no...they said it was bitter.
So....I wasnt happy...I didnt even care for the smoked sirloin.

Hey Jewel....you sure are quiet ever since the Texans beat the
Cowboys on Sat night.???? hmmmmmmmmmmm..?? I think they
suited up the Irving H.S. football team to play....haha

Everyone it doing great here !! I hope you all have a great week !

yooo hooo! anybody home?
Hey, all Texans! How's everyone doing? I love my state, and obviously everyone here does too. Aren't we a lucky bunch? Yesterday it was 90 here. Went to the lake Sunday, and got my first sunburn of the year! I see others from other states complaining about the cold, and I remember to love, love, love our blue skies and warm temps. I'm not too keen on our cedar problem, but hey, if we didn't have that and scorpions, there'd be no reason to try to get to heaven...because *here* it would be! Texans are truly blessed people.

It's been about a year since I posted. Poor health and a nasty bout of pneumonia and phlebitis kept me down this spring. I was eating on the high carb end and suffering severely. I had to go back to LC and am now happily much better and 40 pounds lighter.

My baby, that 22 pound cat is now down to 19 pounds (that is a big drop for him) as I have put him and the other three on a no-grain Wellness wet food. They are all on "Catkins." Doing well, too, but at first they wanted their unlimited dry food (the folks who feed raw food to cats call it "kitty crack").

I sure know about withdrawal. It was amazing to see my cat crew go through the same. I had to be careful with my fat cats because depriving them of too much food will bring on fatty liver, but after being very careful and making sure the two fat ones got enough to eat, they are all doing well and not missing their kitty crack too much, at least not begging for it.

And now for keeping low carb for me. I still have a large phlebitis lump above my right knee that reminds me this is a life and death way to live/eat for me.

Glad to see so many Texans still around. Three years in August I will been in San Antonio/Live Oak. Liking it more every day. Now I just need to know what variety of tomato does well in this growing area.

Hi TejanaCJ,

My brother lives in Live Oak & my DH is from that area too. I live north east of you past Cibilo.

It's good to have you back & congrats on the 40 pounds loss. BTW your kitty is cute I love black & white cats.

I know tomatoes do real good in this area but not sure which ones.

I shall get myself to the local nursery or Home Depot/Lowe's. I have been looking at the new hanging tomato planters to make my gardening easier. When I raised tomatoes in SoCal, the my big hunter used them for a screen to jump the other cats and the birds. He caused quite a bit of damage. I admit I am very out of shape and do not look forward to restaking (y'all know I can't restrict the big cat, my baby).

So off to find some Beefmaster and/or Celebrity. I will keep posting. Beautiful day today in Live Oak. Breezy, sunny, 74, and rain on the way tonight just in time to green the yard some more. TTYL.

Tejana,

I'd ask someone at the nursery which tomatoes do good here. Marion has the best nursery here in south central Tx, people come all the way from Austin it's called Schultz it's off FM465 which is off FM78 about 30 mins from you. And we have the best Meat market too called Penshorne.(least I think that's how it's spelled)

Yeah yesterday was a nice day but we sure could use some rain , it's Spring & my grass is still dry from the drought. Normally in this area Spring is the prettiest time here. But because of that drought there weren't many bluebonnets. And I was going to take my baby Val to get her picture takken in the bluebonnets so maybe next year.

Well we are leaving for the coast tomarrow so I won't be on line till latter next week. Y'all have a great week end.
