HI guys,

With the loss of Eat Well, Be Well bars we went looking for a replacement. I like the high fiber content of the EWBW bars so the fellow showed us the Chocoperfection bars (also 14 grams of fiber).

We bought a dark and a milk chocolate bar for about $3.00 a pop. We really liked the dark chocolate, it was not bitter in the least but not too sweet. It is too bad that they didn't make it 70% cocoa (It is 60%).

The Milk Chocolate was WAY too sweet. Maybe it is because we aren't used to sweets anymore but I could only eat one square. I found the texture a little off as well. So dark it is for us!

Anyone else try these?

I've tried both and I agree whole-heartedly!! The dark chocolate is far better than the milk. The dark tastes like real chocolate. The first time I ate it, I did notice the cooling effect, but I haven't since. With the milk chocolate, I ate one bar and couldn't get over the sweetness. The sweet overpowers the chocolate and I think the cooling effect is more noticeable. If you're buying Chocoperfection, I recommend dark all the way!!

And it contains sugar alcohols! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erythritol

I only tried the milk and I did not care for them in the slightest. I noticed the cooling effect from the erythritol and my tummy was quite upset from them.

I have a difficult time with the thought of buying the dark after my negative experience with the milk but I suppose after I work through the 85 or so eat well be well bars I have left I may succumb to temptation and try again.

As for the sugar alcohols, erythritol isnt like other sugar alcohols. Most people do not have problems with it and only 0.2 calories get absorbed instead of like 3 for the same amount of maltitol.

Agreed - the Dark Chocolate is the one to get if you want to try the Choco Perfection Bars.

Well, so far the sugar alcohol hasn't caused a problem for me intestinally or otherwise. I ordered a dozen of the dark chocolate and they're quite good. Wish they made dark with nuts. I only eat a couple squares at a time and not every day so this may be my saving grace.

poetree you could always eat nuts with your chocolate. I have done that before, not the same, but ok.

I have never liked ANY kind of dark chocolate, but I really enjoy 1/2 square ChocoPerfection Milk Chocolate melted into my decaf each morning.

Erythritol is excreted through the kidneys for the most part, so most people don't have gastric problems with it. Plus it has fewer calories than maltitol, etc..

I found out (the hard way) I can't eat more then 2 squares without having gastrointestinal issues. Good way to curb the chocolate consumption. Or a good way to clean out the intestines, depending upon how you look at it.

I bought a couple of the ChocoPerfection bars online and had one today. While they may not be as bad as maltitol-sweetened candy, they definitely are hard to digest. My calories and carb-count for the day may be fine, but my stomach sure isn't!!

Of course, I ate a whole bar--partly as an experiment to see if they were as digestible as they were advertised to be. If you spread the bar (which is fairly large) out over several days, you might be fine. I am keeping one in my desk in case I get an overwhelming sweet tooth someday.
