After popping down about 15 supplement pills a day
and exercising like a maniac to keep my FBG at about
110,I finally decided to chunk the 15 pill a day thing
and try a prescription.After a little research, I chose
2.5 mg of gylburide once a day.My doctor agreed and
wrote the prescription-4 dollar "special" at Walmart for
a one month supply.I have only been doing glyburide
for a couple of days but my FBG is much better-about
85.The dawn phenomena is much better but it's still
there-glucose level about 115 when I wake up.
My goal here, other than avoiding 15 pill a day thing,
is to try to drop 10-15 pounds by getting into the
Atkins/Bernstein diet program again.I couldn't stay in
ketosis recently because I seemed to need carbs to keep
my FBG down.If I can lose the weight,I'll probably
evaluate dropping glyburide in a few months and try
to control FBG with diet and exercise.I have no intention
of making glyburide a lifetime partner.

Hey Eddie,
We are in the same shoes, dropping carbs too low for me worsens DP and spiked my FBG. But FBG is one thing that only indicates lack of insulin and is very hard to control, this is what makes a difference between folks with pnacreatic function intact and us, diabetics. As I kept saying it all along: it is lack of insulin during night sleep that drives fasting higher, if I continue to eat every 3-4 hours around the clock, my Bgs will be <100. Adding glyberide at bedtime makes your pancrease to churn more insulin without eating, and hence lessens DP. But please, keep in mind, that very low carb regimen will lower your basal insulin even further, combined with glucogen stores depletion in ketosis and glyberide, you risk getting hypo at night, and more prominent DP as rebound effect. Another thing about glyberide, and all sulfos, is weight gain and/or inability to lose weight even following strict low carb diet. It looks counterproductive for something you are trying to accomplish: weight loss and lower Bgs, I believe it is either one or another, if you use sulfo. I understand, having higher fasting is not fun, but it could be better than weight gain, hypos, and further pancreatic cells exhaustion on gluberide. I have read that taking a unit or two of humilin-R at bed time helps with FBG, and it does not impact your pancrease. As for weight loss, it surely does not help but search this forum, I think Sherielee posted something on the Humilin and FBG control. Byetta and Symlin both work better to lower Bgs and weight loss, but the cost is 50 times higher, and based on your data you may be getting problems with Rx.
Anyways, good luck and please, keep us posted, especially if you manage to drop these pesky pounds. ;)
Best,
D.
ETA: I used to pop a handfull of supplements twice a day, until my stomach couldnto handle it anymore. ALA and cinnemon and other stuff made my stomach burn, and I was on my way to peptic ulcer. ;)

Another problem with me is that my glucose
level spikes from even a small carb meal and
goes down very slowly-3 to 5 hours to reach
BG=100.LC diet and exercise alone does not
appear to help very much.My supplements
didn't help very much(I will probably continue
alpha lipoic acid and GTF chromium).
My only options appear to be diabetic medication(glyburide at the moment) or insulin.

I am sorry Eddie, but it does look like your pancrease need some help and glyburide is not the best solution, I think insulin is better option. There is a variety of insulins on the market now, and even inhalable insulin. I recall reading in diabets in control that some new insulin does not cause weight gain, and you can use it along with Symlin that produces weight loss even. Check diabetes in control site, they have many new insulins and drugs explained.
If it comes to using meds, IMO, exogenous insulin is better than pushing your compromised pancrease harder using glyburide.
As for the supplements, ALA is good to treat neuripathy, but chromium did nothing to my Bgs as many other supplements, and I tried them all.
Good luck.

Eddiemcm..........
Are you doing any walking ?
....When my BS is "lazy" to drop down where I want it to be...I found that for me, a brisk walk (like even 20min) will "force it" down.
Have a nice BS.

Regarding replies:
1. I have considered insulin-might wind up
doing it
2. Various forms of exercise provide inconsistent
results-sometimes helps BS,sometimes
makes it worse.I continue to do weightlifting
simply because I like it
I appreciate the replies/information
Eddie
