Hi everyone~
I'm frustrated today.
I have Hashi's...had half my thyroid out in May 06...just got my labs back and I've gone from a TSH of 1.5 to 3.88 an FT3 of 3.0 to 2.6 and an FT4 of 1.14 to 1.13
Ok...I'm on 137 mcg Synthroid and 5 Cytomel. When they called with these numbers today I grumbled and stated I wanted an increase in my meds. I got some grief. We have zero endo choices here...I don't know what to do. Any advice? Should I even be griping about these numbers? I feel "ok"...I mean the best I can feel being 100 pounds overweight I suppose?
sigh... :help:
Thanks for any info...suggestions...etc...

That TSH isn't bad at all. Can you post the lab ranges? You might want to also read this thread, it is similar to yours and the same sort of advice would apply: http://forum.lowcarber.org/showthread.php?t=321474

A normal range of TSH is 1-3, so yours is a little higher. IT's really hard to lose weight (if not impossible) if your thyroid hormones are off. If they give you grief, then you can always go to a doctor that will listen! I'd gripe. Sometimes you don't know you're feeling bad till you feel better.

Hey...thanks for the responses. I did read that thread (thanks for linking it). None of my numbers are in the lab optimum ranges...but all are within the labs "normal" ranges...but I figure why not shoot for optimum?
I've got to suck it up and call the office...my endo is very nice...too bad his staff isn't.

I would say forget the numbers and go by how you feel. Think about energy levels, joint pain, periods, metabolism, temperature, depression. Yes I agree go for optimal, but optimal health not numbers. Maybe thinking back to how you felt 10 years ago, sometime before hashis would help you realize what normal feels like for you.
Normal TSH is 0.3 - 3
I believe most holistic/naturopathic drs would have suggested you increase your meds, without any prompting from you. Your TSH is high, your T3 is barely low normal. It will take some work and maybe a phone consult type of dr. You see them once a year and then they can legally prescribe medication for you. Look on Mary Shommons site if you need some help finding a decent dr.
