I've read the success stories of people that have lost 100 pounds (and more) I've watched the TV shows like "I Lost It" and all the other ones, and now...here I am, "ME" after losing 100 pounds. 8 months and 20 days later, what a difference losing 100 pounds has made in my life.
YoYo dieting was a way of life for me, any new diet that came out, or new diet pill... I would try it. I would lose and then gain back all the weight and more. I would ask myself over and over "WHY" do I lose just to gain my weight back? I knew why, it was an easy answer.... I went back to my old eating habits. I enjoy food! :yum:
There's this great little place not far from me that sells the best hot dogs, sorta like a "mom and pop's" place. I know the people that run this place so for me to be alone and go in and ask for 4 hot dogs all the way...well, lol... I didn't want them to think I was eating all that by myself so I would say "I want 2 hot dogs all the way" and he'll have 2 with everything but ketchup. :o Of course "he" was not there but I had them thinking the 2 other hot dogs were for my husband at home. I would go back home and eat all 4 right by myself, that was just for lunch and I usually asked for 2 orders of fries with the 4 hot dogs! Then there was the ice cream. I always had the freezer stocked with Ben and Jerry's, I had pecans and hot fudge for the toppings. Every night I would fix my husband and I a big bowl. Then, there was the Pepsi's. I was consuming at least 8 cans a day. Pasta, potatoes, I was loving those carbs! :D
We always take the grandkids to Myrtle Beach every April, we've been doing that for the past 5 years. Last April we rented a beach house that had like 2 big flights of steps just to get in the house. Well, after finally getting in the house I was so tired I really dreaded going out again knowing I had to climb Mt. Everest again once we returned. The grandkids always wanted to go go go, and there I was trying so hard to keep up. At 286 pounds, my feet hurt, my knee's hurt and I was SO out of breath. My back hurt constantly. I was an embarresement not only to myself, but to the people I loved. SO.... this April, it's all going to be different. This granny is going to be in a new bathing suit and out playing with the grandkids, running, going up steps and this time I am going to be the one who says "let's go go go". :hyper:
In April of 2006, I did a search for low carb diets and found this board...THANK GOD! There's been so many people that have helped me and inspired me to keep going. I can't thank you all enough! I read the posts and looked at the pictures. I started posting and decided that May 1st was it. This was my last ditch effort to lose and KEEP it off, I was getting to darn old to keep trying! I was tired of trying! I had to try something that worked for the long haul and that was Atkins. The best part of being on Atkins is that I know now I can make this a WOL. There's so much food I can eat and be satisfied. I love chicken wings, steak and veggies, eggs, I can eat that and so much more, there are lots of good recipes on here.
My very first post on here was "I am such a failure". I printed that out and have it on my fridge. I remember saying that I hoped in some small way I could help others, I hope by posting my before pictures, I can. It took a lot of guts to put those pictures on here..lol! :daze:
Thanks to everyone on this board!!! I set my goal back in May 2006 to lose 100 pounds by February 2007 (9 months) and because of the inspiration and motivation from the great people on this forum... I accomplished my goal! I'm going to keep on losing, maybe 30 more pounds....thanks so much everyone!

Thank you sooo much for losing 100 lbs and posting the success. That is so inspiring for me. We started at roughly the same weight and I have given myself the same time frame to loose the first 100.I know you dont have a journal here & I have a million questions. Like did you do alot of excersise??
I to have grandchildren (4 & more on the way) & they along with our 5 boys and my DH is the reason I am getting healthy.
The thing I have found about this WOL is the vast variety of food that I can eat, that I love and still lose the pounds. Where as before it seemed like all I was ever eating was bread & pasta & crap and gaining massive amounts.
Keep up the great work. You are truly wonderful. And thanks again!

Hi grammastar! Aren't those grandbabies something?? We are waiting on the phone to ring anytime now, our daughter is expecting on the 9th of Feb. I am getting to anxious here...lol!
I do exercise. Our daughter bought us a treadmill a few years ago, it makes a great coat rack  but I decided a few months ago to put it to better use. I usually get on that now and walk at least one mile a day. Sometimes my husband and I will walk around the neighborhood, depending on the weather. I also have an ab chair I bought at Dicks Sporting Goods, Walmart has this too. I get on that everyday too, that really helps I think. I also have a Tony Little Gazzell that I bought off of www.craigslist.com for like $100.00. Craigslist is great for finding all sorts of exercise equipment, I've seen some Gazzells go for $25.00 after I bought mine. Just my luck, lol!
Good luck on reaching your goal.... I will be cheering you on! :cheer:

Wow, you look great. I look at your before and after pictures and all I know is I want to look and feel great like that. I too have been on the Yo Yo diet
trip and I am sick of it. I have done LC before and I know it works. I don't want to be overweight and sit on the side while everyone else is living. I read all of the success stories here and the motivation I feel to keep going, and succeed is so great. Reading stories like yours and many others who are living the LC life with such success, well you are living proof that you can make this an on going way of life. Congradulations.

COngrats Gee-Ma. You are very inspiring. I have been off the board here for a couple of months, but I have not given up.
I am still losing...very slowly, but I am on track now full force. I have added some exercise to my routine and it is working great. I cannot believe how good I am feeling. Last year at this time I was dreading playing ball because I was so sore and tired after each game. Now I can play again and it has absolutely no effect on me.
You have done fantastic to lose 100lbs in a year. I am into my 8th month now and have lost 32 lbs..it is definitely a success, but I am a little jealous I must admit. I know it is partly my own fault because I could be a little more strict with my diet thats for sure. The key for me though is I haven't given up yet and have no desire to eat like I did before.
I am hoping to drop at least another 15 lbs in the next 4 months, so I am determined to work even harder now!
You have been very inspiring for many people. Its great that you have taken the time to share your story! Your are AWESOME!

Very inspirational! Today was a slow day at my office. I started with your pictures and looked through all the inspiring ones as I had time. It was quite motivating...I have been losing an average of 3 pounds a month (7 x 3+/- lbs) before starting low carb. I have lost four lbs since last Thursday when I went low carb for a total of around 27-28 lbs since last October. I have 58 more to go and it's very helpful to see that persistance works and makes such a healthy and wonderful difference in appearance. It's not easy to lose it so slowly and yet these pictures of you all make it seem entirely possible.

hi, i have a question. did you follow atkins program? did you notice that while doing the program the pounds melt away but if you "cheated" once then you gainned a lot in one day?
Yes, I am on Atkins and have followed the program since May 2006. The pounds did melt away really fast the first 8 months or so, then of course things started slowing down more and more. It was as if my body said "I am holding on to the weight, you've lost enough now stop" :D As hard as I try, I am losing only 5 pounds or so now a month. I am very happy with that!
I've cheated a few times, maybe 3 times I think. Oh yea, the next day the scales would show it too. It's mostly water weight and that comes off once you get right back on Atkins. I just start induction for a few days.
I have to tell myself everyday....ever single day....this wol is "forever" I've lost weight over the years so many times just to gain it all back, and more. I cannot do that again. I know it would be so easy for me to go back to my old eating habits, so I can't let myself :o slip :o but a few times, lol. I like wearing a size 8 too much :)
:) :) :)

Hi Rosina :) First of all, you look fantastic! 76 pounds is amazing!
I know just what you mean about everything going south :o My problem area is mainly my neck, I have a turkey neck now. My arms are another problem, I have bat wings now. I've exercised for the last 8 months or so, I have a Tony Little gazelle I bought off of craigs.list.com and I would recommend that to anyone. I have a balance ball and an ab chair as well as several exercise videos. I do a lot of walking, 3 miles a day. I know the walking helped me a great deal but I pushed that too far. I think all the exercise I've done has really helped my stomach. You can tell in my pictures I posted on here that it's really a difference. In my last picture I posted on here, I had my "spanx" on...lol :) I've seen 2 plastic surgeons about my neck. I am going to another one this Tuesday. Now I just have to win the lottery!
I feel cheated too! About 3 months ago my right knee started hurting after I walked. It would have been SO EASY for me to make yet more excuses to not walk or do any exercise. When I weighed almost 300 pounds my excuse was my ankles hurt (and they did) or it's too hot outside to walk, too cold, or I'm just so tired  I really couldn't walk more than 5 minutes without having to sit down. So.... the more weight I lost, the more I felt like I could exercise more, especially walking.
Last week I went to see my doctor about my knee. I told him for so many years I've made excuses not to exercise and I wasn't trying to get out of it saying my knee hurt, lol. He took several xrays and told me I had to have a knee replacement, it was that bad. SO, there I was sitting in his office thinking how the heck can this be? I've lost all this weight and now my knee goes out? My doctor told me for so many years my knee's had to support all my weight and even though I had lost a lot of weight I had the same knee's...(well, doh!) Now, after all the months of walking and exercising, there was too much strain on my knee. My husband and I would walk some big hills around our neighborhood, I never had any problems breathing at all. I felt fine and even jogged some up the hills. :o Humm, I do feel robbed. Even though my knee would hurt, I ignored the pain and would not let that be an excuse. My husband and I had planned to go to the Washington (DC) zoo and also to New York (Soho) it's almost like I can finally get up and go...lol, but... I'll walk again and this time it's gonna be better than ever!

Thanks for the information. You look great. I'm so ready to get this off. I've been on atkins since June 24 and it seems like a slow process this time around for me that the first time.
I look to God for strength everyday and know that when I fall down, I have to just dust myself off and get back to it. If you don't mind sharing, what foods did you eat and stay away from? i was looking for a journal, but don't see one. Thanks in advance.
Also, I'm sorry about your knee, but I'm sure you will back to normal in No time. Your Grand babies are adorable !

Thanks :) You're doing great, keep it up!
The foods I ate and stayed away from.....I ate a lot of chicken wings, still do. I used the Frank's Red Hot sauce, got that from Wal-mart. I would bake about 30 at a time and freeze them, that way I could pop some in the microwave when I got hungry. I try to eat something every 3 hours if I was hungry or not. I love salads with blue cheese dressing and it doesn't matter what time of day I have a salad. Grilled fish, especially salmon with butter :yum: I would fix chicken in my George Forman grill, and pork tenderloin. I didn't eat many hotdogs or packaged foods like ham, bologna and the like. Frankenfoods I tryed to stay away from. Eggs are another favorite of mine and I eat them boiled, fried, scrambled and sunny side up. I usually boil 6 a day and keep them in the fridge for snacks. I have never had the rev rolls but I do want to try those soon. Oh yea... brocolli is probably the one thing I have the most of, I eat that everyday.
I drink a lot of water, almost a gallon a day.
Hope this helps :D

I've never believed I could lose 100 pounds, but when I read stories like this I start to beleive that maybe I can.
I've lost 12 pounds. All I have to do is repeat that eight more times.
When you put it like that is sounds easier, don't you think girls?

Gee-ma - My very first post on here was "I am such a failure".
And your last will be "I'm such a loser"
LOL

Gee-Ma - What an inspiration! I am in the same range as you were when you started and my goal weight is where you are now! I cannot wait to write my success story. I started this WOL again on 9/12/07 and would like to reach 160 lbs by this time next year. Your story helps give me the strength and reassurance that not only can this happen, but it may happen earlier than my goal date. That would be MARVELOUS! Thank you for sharing your story.
One question...how much exercise did you incorporate into your journey?

Hi Jenna :D ty ty... I bought a Tony Little Gazelle on craigslist.com. It was used and I got a good deal on it. Fantastic workout and it doesn't hurt my knees..lol. I also have one of those ab chairs I bought at a sporting goods company. I think Walmart has these ab chairs too. I did a lot of walking, not as much now though. :o I keep right on doing the gazelle workout and the ab chair just as much as I ever did, keeping this weight off is the absolute hardest thing I've ever done. I tell myself EVERYDAY I can't go back to my old eating habits, my old routine.... I just can't :o
Jenna.... you are doing great! I agree with you on your goal, it can happen by this time next year, no doubt :)

I had to laugh at your hot dog story...been there done that. I used to order 2 drinks when I was at fast food restaurants so they would think all that food was for 2 people not just me.
Your pictures are amazing! "A picture is worth a thousand words" You are absolutely inspirational.

Hi,
Do you think it's so much hard work to keep off because you lost it so quickly?? Or why else do you think it may be, but isn't so hard for some others?

maybe you are the support i need. I have never been as big as I am now, and I don't know what to do. I am just all around not happy. I want to lose around 75 lbs and I get hung up because I am out alot and need to get food on the run...and I HATE chicken..so it is so hard to find stuff to eat.
I hope that I am not bothering you, but i need people by my side.

One year ago I lost 60#'s in 4 months and was the "biggest loser" at work - winning 250.00. Now, a little over one year later I gained back the 60 and another 10 - for an all time high which I am too embarrassed to even mention.
I have 155 pounds to lose and I am back on the biggest loser race - weighing in tonight and paying my 20.00.
If I ever need hope and determination it is now. I HAVE to believe I Can Do It. After reading your story and seeing your amazing pictures I have hope.....
Two questions, in the beginning what was your mainstay for the diet and how long did it take you to lose all the weight - in the beginning did you exercise a lot?
please email me back at bpavich~hotmail.com
thank you,

Ahh thanks everyone! There were so many people who inspired me on this board, and still do.
imlosingit..hey girl! I have been so busy with my mom lately. She's having dizzy spells and the doctors can't figure out just whats causing this. She's had so many tests, now she's going to physical therapy 2 times a week. I'm glad I can take her and stay with her during the day, just takes up some time. But I'm here :)

CON-FRICKIN-GRATS!
What awesome weight loss!
i feel you on the Pepsi thing, I was having about 5-6 cans a day at one point. Cutting that out has really been a huge thing. It was my one really bad thing! I didn't eat badly everyday, mostly just a bag of chips ont he weekends, but the Pepsi was ruining my life LOL
I'm so happy for your loss, it is such an inspiration.

How inspiring. I'm at that place (not as heavy but the emotions) as you were. I'm so tired of up & down and right now I'm back up. I wish there was a thread (is there?) where you posted what you ate... not everyday, but many days. I need an idea of what to eat. Congratulations.

Thanks! :)
I had around 20 carbs a day. I tryed not to fall below the 20 a day, I felt better when I had the 20 and knew I needed at least that many. There's so many good recipes on this site, I found that eating low carb could really taste good. I know 20 sounds like a small amount for an entire day, but you can get just as full on 20 carbs a day than you can 100 carbs. I never went hungry. :yum:

Wow, that is not many. I have the problem of when I go under 33, I start getting uncontrollable urges to binge on carbs! Then I eventually cheat. :( I'd better start checking out the recipes on this site. Thanks!

OMG, I have to laugh at your signature "There is no spoon"
My little son who's 16 looks just like Keanu and we have, for the last year or two had that joke.."there is no spoon".. You must have my sense of humor girl! You should have seen my post last week. I said I gained a pound..I suspect nargles. Can you guess where that's from?
