There's a show coming on Lifetime Channel, "To Be Fat Like Me"..where a gal thinks that fat ppl use their weight as an excuse..so she experiments by changing her size and seeing what life is like.. I'm going to watch it, thought others might want to too.

Yes, I am watching Lifetime tonight and have seen the ad several times. I will be watching that too! Isn't it ironic that Caroline Rhea plays one of the main characters? (OK, well I am sure they asked her to do the part because of her connection to "The Biggest Loser"--but you get what I mean).

I just finished watching it. Honestly, I didn't care for it much. For starters they always showed the fat people stuffing their faces all the time which I found to be very offensive. Not every fat person keeps a 'secret stash' of junk food in their car so they can binge all the time or eats cheese fries all the time or whole pizzas by themselves etc.
The girl still had no clue what it was like to be fat and try to be healthy and have metabolic problems or the emotional issues that really go with it or anything else. Basically the message I got was that fat people need to take responsibility for their own eating and they might be treated like shit but its half deserved because they all do it to themselves and have no discipline and they just need to get out and do more and eat less.
Also, the very last line, 'we need to show the world who we are' or something like that. That went against everything she showed. The real fat girl in it was never able to show the world who she was and when she tried no one cared or got shot down.
Overall I thought it was poorly done and way over dramatic at times. There were a couple of good points and some moments that touched on an emotional nerve but overall I would not recommend it. On top of that the weight watchers commercials and the jenny craig commercials made me feel like they were all somehow part of the whole thing and I have a tivo and fast forwarded over most of them lol!

Well, I have a job interview today which I didn't know about until about 5pm last night, so I rushed out to get some new clothes to wear to it, and MISSED THIS SHOW! Boogars!
I am sure it will be on again........

I was disappointed in the show as well....whatever message they were sending went right beyond me...it just didn't seem to make any good point! And I agree that all overweight people do not have stashes of food either, so it kind of played to the sterotype. I missed the first 15 minutes so don't know if that would have changed it for me or not....seemed like it had potential but missed the point.

Yeah, that was really offensive. I was flipping through channels and found that and was really put off by it.

Yeah I watched it also...found it kinda cheesy and offensive at times. Although at one point she started to bring up a good point regarding the question of why people think it's ok to make fun of people with weight problems but obviously wrong to do the same when it comes to someone's race or cultural background? It's because you can't change your race or culture but you CAN get fat..ANYONE can get fat...and so it's because deep down they have that fear that THAT could be them.
I thought that was an interesting thought...Never thought about it quite like that. But mostly overall cheesy and offensive. Although I think they were TRYING to send a good message--it definitely fell flat.

Hey, about the show - It wasn't what i thought it would be either but I did notice something that I have wondered before. I used to think maybe an overweight person had the wrong haircut and that's why it didn't look right on them but now i think most haircuts don't look good on over weight people because of their weight- not the haircut. I say that cause her hair was so so cute when she was normal but when they showed her in the fat suit I thought her hair just looked awful! Is anyone on the same page as I am? Anyone notice that too?

What an interesting observation!! Now I know why I used to hate to see myself in the mirror...cuz my hair was always unattractive on my obese body. ;)
